Pirate Doom! [GZDoom pwad] - new map 06/05/14

Pirate Doom! A GZDoom TC which features:

- 18 maps of good old runnin' and gunnin' action;

- eye patches, bandannas, beards and mustaches for all Doom monsters;

- cutlass, flintlock, cannons and other rusty weapons;

- cool caribbean music;

- references to Monkey Island and other 90's games;

- also works as a weapon mod with other mapsets;

- Ships, islands, treasures and rum.

This is a project I´m trying to do in a cartoonish, kind of Monkey Island (tm) style. It´s 13 maps by now, all tested and playable.

It's not clear that you need GZDoom either.

Anyway, I beat the first level and this is neat. Took a while to figure out where the blue key is.

I already played it when it had only 2 maps. It was really awesome seeing 2 of my favourite childhood games come together. Good to see you're making more levels for it.

Can't wait to see what comes out of it. Looks and plays awesome.

Nice to see a wad with great humour. Gotta say, I laughed my ass off the first time I saw the pirate demon.

You also have a nice touch with difficulty. Captain difficulty was truly challenging to say the least.

Overall nicely done, keep posting MOAR!!

I'm getting random slowdowns in map02. I can't tell if it's whenever I see a monster or at a fixed time or random times. Is there some crazy script going on in there?

edit: okay I turned the resolution down to 640x480 and it's not slowing down anymore.

Anyway I finished it. Lots of fun. Gibbing imps and zombiemen with the sword is uncannily satisfying.

I love the look of this! And the way those little pirate hats fly off the imps' heads when they die just cracks me up! Can't wait to play it.

Playing it now. Awesome! No slowdowns in Map 2 for me, at least so far (just got the blue key). I'm loving the cartoony feel to this.

Adding to this post as I progress. Just into Map 3. The ambient sounds are great and really add to the atmosphere. The weapons too are amazing, I can't wait to see the heavier arms.

I've noticed a tiny visual glitch on MAP01 (look at the window) - http://i.imgur.com/XFmue.jpg
I think there was too many monsters in some buildings on MAP02. They were fighting each other too often.
Also, the new weapons look out of place IMO. Low-res sprites would fit better, I think.

Oh I know this bug, but I simply can´t fix it. I know it´s related with the stacked sectors in the grate at the ceiling, but I couldn´t find a position for them that didn´t bug. If someone know something I could try there, please let me know.

It's nice to see someone actually making a pirates themed mod, last year I thought about making a pirates mod but couldn't really find any resources for pirates related weaponry so I gave up.

I´ll try to do that, replacing weapons and monsters is ok, the problem is making 30 maps... this will take a lot of time to do by myself. If someone want to offer a map to this mod, would be very nice hehe

Oh man it´s great to see these videos, I actually used your "Treasure Cove" video as reference for health and ammo start on map 04 :)

Then you played MAP 04 from pistol start hehe that´s ok, I´m trying to make it playable both ways.
