I just hope Doom 4 doesn't turn into a Doom 4ever, like a certain other FPS game. That was horrible. I still occasionally have nightmares about the Holsom Twins. Honestly, I wouldn't even be all that mad if Doom 4 ended up essentially being Brutal Doom for Doom 3. And if they stole some ideas from the Going Down megawad, that would be cool, too.

I totally share your opinion, and I think anyone with a different opinion should be ridiculed and banned from the forums without mercy. I also think that the Doomworld owners should pay everyone $0.50 every time they post on the forums.

I think there is too much violence. Games like this will just encourage kids to go out and start shooting people. They may even decide to go to a high school and start shooting their classmates, Columbine-style. Maybe instead of weapons, the Doomguy should just have a random assortment of gifts that he can give to the zombies and demons, and they would respond by smiling and dancing with Doomguy. On a more serious note, it looks like it may have potential. As long as it isn't as insufferably boring (and confusing) like Doom 3 was, and you aren't required to switch between your gun and a flashlight, I will probably buy a copy of this game. I'm really hoping it will be more like Doom 2 than Doom 3. And to be honest, I'd rather have regenerating health than have to deal with hunting down health packs all the time. Most new games don't let you cheat or quicksave, so it would kinda suck to be stuck in a hallway, waiting to fight a boss monster, with only 9 health and no way to heal yourself.

Currently playing Community is Falling 3. I wasn't around when all the drama happened (if it happened at all like this wad claims), but it's pretty fun. Some maps are really, really confusing, though. Did zdoom and doomworld really declare war on each other at one point? There seem to be an awful lot of wads that imply that such a thing happened. Was KDIZD really the catalyst that caused all the chaos and destruction? It all seems kinda silly, like the cold war. Honestly, it's hard to believe that a couple generations ago, we were almost willing to nuke the entire earth and wipe out our entire species.

Community Is Falling 3 is probably a little bit more kid friendly. There's just too much violence and bad language in Grezzo 2. I'm not entirely sure I "get" the animosity between this forum and zdoom's forum, but whatever. It seems like a lot of threads end up on both forums. (I'm actually a little surprised that (intentional) joke wads about Brutal Doom haven't been made yet...)

I'm pretty sure that if he genuinely thought Doom sucked, he probably wouldn't even bother using Brutal Doom. I mean, I think Doom 3 sucks, and even if there was a Brutal Doom 3, I wouldn't play it because I don't like the underlying game. I want to like Doom 3, but it just doesn't... it's like going out on a date with a girl when you aren't attracted to her at all, and you know you'll just end up ignoring all of her calls and text messages. And then after a couple years you forget whose number that is, and you call her up and go out on another date, and you end up being disappointed again. Doom 3 is that girl. Doom 1/2, however, is that girl that you end up marrying. Brutal Doom is the harlot that you cheat on your wife with, but you always end up returning to your one true love... Anyhow, my point is that there's not really any point in getting angry about this stuff. It's just a game. Also, what is up with that red mystery timer in the upper right corner?

The point you are trying to make is that people shouldn't post opinions and views that differ from your own? Wouldn't it be easier to just change what you can, and accept that sometimes you can't change certain things, and just try to live in peace and harmony with other Doom lovers? Getting upset because someone likes Brutal Doom more than Vanilla Doom is kinda silly, and it kinda makes you look like this: http://imgur.com/BRVFB9H edit: Brutal Doom and Vanilla Doom (or Freedoom) both have their places, and sometimes you can only use one or the other with certain maps. I think Brutal Doom is mostly intended to be used with Vanilla Doom, and Vanilla Doom is mostly intended to be used with everything that isn't Brutal Doom compatible, which is a lot of mods and maps. I usually play maps first in Vanilla Freedoom, then I play them with BD if it looks like there isn't anything that will be broken. edit2: My one major beef with BD v20 is that the weapons don't auto-switch like in vanilla Doom, which can make things a little stressful when you have to look at the screen to figure out which guns have ammo, and then you have to waste a second or two to hit the right button for that gun. Well, they auto-switch SOMETIMES in BD, but there are times when they won't, for unknown reasons. Typing IDFA will definitely break the auto-switcher.

I thought that text was removed a couple versions ago. Also, what if John Romero said he approved of that text? What if he wasn't even aware of it? I'm aware of it, and I still like Brutal Doom. As for the message itself, maybe in Brazil they have different cultural expectations and opinions regarding people of African descent. There was a time when most Americans said things that were much worse than that. (Nowadays we just call them "teenagers" or "youths" in the media, regardless of their actual age, because it's not politically correct to refer to African-Americans by their race or ethnicity, especially if they were allegedly involved in criminal activities. We like to pretend we're not racist by using doublespeak.)

I liked this mod more than Brutal Doom.

I've recently discovered a glitch where some of the dead zombies will actually block passageways and make it impossible to for me to progress. Sgt Mark IV said that an update will be released soon that will presumably fix some of these issues. I'm tempted to see what the Brutal Doom megawad will be like. Supposedly it's based off of a fork of Freedoom, but an older version. I don't see how the Freedoom Project could possibly get more attention than by being attached to a Brutal Doom "Starter Pack". Would it be considered sacrilegious if Sgt Mark IV tried to donate levels and textures to the official Freedoom project? (Honestly, as much as I like Freedoom, I don't think I've ever been able to go from map 1 to map 30 without using IDCLIP or IDCLEV. And I think the archvile is still missing some sprites. Aside from that, it's almost entirely functional as an IWAD replacement.) I think we can put the blame squarely on Id Software's shoulders in regards to that. If the chaingunner was white like the other zombies, that never would have been an issue. Besides, is it not racist to portray the minority black zombie (1 of 3 possible zombie types) as being capable of doing far more damage to the player than the other zombies? That kind of subtle racism did not go unnoticed.

I always thought the "hate" had to do with some old drama involving Sgt Mark IV, and that most of those haters only hate Brutal Doom because of that. Or maybe they are like those people that hated Mad Max Fury Road and The Dark Knight... they do it just to be "cool". I like it... but I think Sgt Mark IV should change the skin color of the chaingunners to be white, and make the imps pink so that the game would be slightly less racist. He should also have the white characters utter racial slurs so that you won't feel bad about killing them. ...every single last one of them. Poe's Law. ;) edit: I'm watching 'Doom' the movie on the Syfy channel. I think this qualifies as a "cult film", as its entire target audience seems to reside on these forums. It's actually kinda entertaining.

That probably explains why my computer has been slowing to a crawl when there has been more than 5 monsters on screen (being blown up at the same time)... The default setting does seem to be more computer friendly, especially with the janitor enabled.

Romero probably only likes Brutal Doom because he is a racist. :) Seriously though, Brutal Doom, like tobacco cigarettes, is one of those love it or hate it kind of things. You either like it or you don't, and nobody else really cares about your opinion. Well, unless you get up in their face and start causing a problem, either for the lulz, or because you have some bizarre desire to compel people to do what you want them to do, even when at the end of the day, nobody is going to care about the outcome. I mean, statistically speaking, more people are more likely to go on a killing spree at a high school after playing Doom than Brutal Doom... *cough*Columbine*cough* edit: I actually like Brutal Doom, btw. I'm not one of those people that will ONLY play Doom with the original maps all the time, and on DOS. edit2: And yes, it is a little difficult to play with the blood settings cranked up to 11, because I can't see what I'm shooting at (more of a problem with infighting than anything else). It would be nice if the blood just spewed out of the back of the monsters, at least from the player's perspective. edit3: Totally unrelated, but what is that timer in the upper right corner for?

While I understand the meaning of the word "bikeshedding", isn't it a little weird to use a term that refers to something that almost nobody has: bike sheds?** I mean, it's almost like talking about having a shed just for your microwave. And on that note, since we're using goofy, nonsensical words, why do you have an objection to possibly changing the name of FreeDoom? Honestly, I'm not entirely sure this qualifies as "bikeshedding" since Freedoom 0.9 almost qualifies as a fully functional replacement for Ultimate Doom and Doom II iwads, when used in conjunction with additional pwads and mods, although as a standalone iwad, it obviously needs a little bit more work. ** I mean, sure, I suppose it is possible that some folks have them, but why not store your bike in your garage, house, apartment, or backyard? Do you not ever clean the thing?

Maybe something more like "Libertastraf"? So unique that even Google kinda barfs on it. Or maybe just "FreeWad: Free Dūm for Personal Computers"? By making it sound pompous it may very well attract more people.

Well, we could do something like what Zandronum did: have a poll for the 3 most popular possible names, and then combine them into one name. Bonus points if it is unique enough to be the top listing in most search engines when people are looking for it. Freedoom used to get changed to "freedom", which was not helpful. As a possible name, I suggest "Ghatanothoa".

OK, fine, how about this: In the year 2015, scientists recover dinosaur DNA from tar pits and mosquitoes trapped in sap. After recombining this DNA with human DNA, they create new monsters for Freedoom... the DinoMonster! edit: What offended you, Clonehunter, so I can apologize? I can't read minds... Do you find my religious beliefs to be offensive?

Perhaps a better idea would be to utilize some Creationist beliefs about how humans and dinosaurs coexisted, and then add something about eating fruit from the tree of knowledge, and then a whole bunch of mindless violence...
