Quake 4 has Peter Stormare so it wins by default. I wish it had an expansion. The main fault of the game is the slow opening. For the first 2-3 hours it's a bit boring. I played it right after Call of Duty 2 (which I never finished because the Normandy levels are awful) and I thought this is pretty much CoD in space. I also liked it more than FEAR. 2005 was a really good year for FPS games...

They just opened a second id studio in Frankfurt, no doubt aiming to lure Crytek employees. The brand ain't going anywhere.

PC will not receive additional modding tools beyond SnapMap

A new id Software studio has opened in Frankfurt, dedicated to engine development. They're obviously poaching more talent from Crytek. -
It can get away with a complete lack of story as long as it has more varied objectives than "find the keycard". If the immediate goals are satisfying, there's no need for a better final objective than to leave Mars. In fact I think it would be interesting to never meet or hear a human voice except for those death holograms. The pace and variety of certain sections of Rage and The Lost Mission is good enough to sustain an 8-10 hours game with no plot.

Are those the Independence Day aliens?

I'd like Doomguy to be a guy in the main game, and like for Doom 3 the expansions should introduce new characters, including female marines. Doomguy is just as iconic as B.J. or Mario. Or bring back the marines-playing-cards intro, and there you can choose your gender. I think Duke is a hedonist, not a misogynist.

They watched Elysium.

So that one recolored screenshot that everyone likes...

They should run the Hell textures through Google's neural network. The longer you stare the creepier it gets: http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jun/18/google-image-recognition-neural-network-androids-dream-electric-sheep. That knight is straight out of a nightmare. -
I liked how they did it in Dead Island. Especially the big zombies still struggling to attack after their arms were cut off of broken. Broken limbs were especially fucked-up as they went into ragdoll mode, flailing around the body. Removing chunks of meat wasn't bad either. IIRC the game was revealed with 5 tissue layers in 2007 but they reduced it to three because the vsual difference wasn't worth the performance hit.

I like the other recolored screenshot (except the cacodemon). It's another dimension. I'd like a Hell with different laws of physics. The recoloured Hell screenshot looks like Serious Sam 2 or some shit, but the idea of light behaving differently in the Hell levels sounds good to me. Anyway, games often fuck around with unrealistic lighting, with hero lighting and invisible sources all over the place. Crysis 3 wouldn't look half as good without mysterious lights shining upon its characters... -
They look like plastic toys. The whole footage had a weird plastic look IMO. I like it.

Weren't melee and ripping off hands to open doors in the Doom Bible? The helmet HUD too.

They mentioned in the post-conference interview that the monster death animations are based on the original game's. I found the player mistakes weird. The demo is very polished and they must have bumped the stick movement smoothing to 400%. On the other hand, the player almost kills himself with some poorly placed rockets. He screwed up some fatalities, most notably in Hell where he accidentally boxed a demon for the second time because he triggered the blue fatality instead of the red one (the animations are triggered based on the body part in focus). I'm curious to hear what was updated from the QuakeCon demo.

This video was posted in March and mentioned the editor and the release date. He also says a remake of Doom 1 will be DLC.

We gotta figure out what those Russians are doing.

This is the Doom that was supposed to run at 30 FPS on the old consoles because it had a ton of monsters. Just because it looked like Homefront doesn't mean it also played like it.
