I'm pretty disappointed with the amount of arguing or "debating" as it's been called in this thread. It's great to see a popular thread, but it's popular for all the wrong reasons. I just wanted to bring up what I thought was an interesting idea or new take on Doom 4, something beyond the color scheme and monster list. Nonetheless, I do appreciate the few lighthearted and non-attacking replies that have been posted, though I don't recall the users off the top of my head so hopefully you can just accept my thanks. Also, I see that the arguing put this into Everything Else; however, I still feel it belongs in the Doom 4 forum area as it pertains directly to Doom 4 or at least the original post does. This is just my two cents. Happy dooming or whatever the verb would be?

I personally loved that shot in the demo. I'm a sucker for a blood soaked hallway in a game. Reminds me of Doom 3 and also Area 51.

I don't know if anyone at Id has stated a reason for this; however, it would seem that the new designs are meant to look a bit more realistic and less fantastical. Then again, some of the Doom 4 designs do have elements that are definitely classically demonic, like the apparent design for the Baron of Hell.

Does anyone remember the xbox 360 version of Quake Wars? That was really REALLY brown.

I seem to be the only one who likes the Cyberdemon design here, but then again I do like the Diablo 3 art style. Also, can anyone foster a guess as to what are in those lab tubes? Some of the creatures or things look humanoid while others look almost insect-like. It may be a stretch, but could ticks or trites be coming back? On a personal note, I really like my sci-fi with some weird creatures in test tubes, so this looks to be right up my alley.

Speaking of the whole back story of the doom guy, are the novels considered an official look at the true back story for the character?

I have always felt that the plasma rifle in Doom 1 and 2 looks like an accordion. A deadly accordion. If you can't help but see this now, I am sorry.

I kinda like that shot actually... I'm okay with the current look too though. It would be cool if the game had extra options like the ability to revert to classic doom colors and use big head mode. Oh, and paintball mode.

I just created a thread about the Amazon product listing for Doom but figured I would post something here as well. In the description under Story the page states: "STORY: You’ve come here for a reason. The Union Aerospace Corporation’s massive research facility on Mars is overwhelmed by fierce and powerful demons, and only one person stands between their world and ours. As the lone DOOM Marine, you’ve been activated to do one thing – kill them all." Does the word activated mean the marine is a machine owned by the UAC?
