    Crispy Doom 6.0 (Update: Mar 31, 2023)

Damm. No worries. Appreciate the help nonetheless.

    Crispy Doom 6.0 (Update: Mar 31, 2023)

No go on Win 98. I just get the ''Requires a newer version of Windows'' prompt.

    Crispy Doom 6.0 (Update: Mar 31, 2023)

Appreciate the detailed reply. Indeed, hopefully someone that is interested in the novelty of a Win 98 port can have a bash at it in the future. If not, no worries. Tall ask for only a small audience. Understandable. A few suggestions on this page alone that I had no idea of, so there is no lack of enthusiasm when it comes to people still making Source Ports. That's a good thing.

    Crispy Doom 6.0 (Update: Mar 31, 2023)

That looks rather tasty. I'm guessing no Win98 though, considering Newer Choco builds use SDL2

    Crispy Doom 6.0 (Update: Mar 31, 2023)

Sadly another highly inaccurate SP, even with tweaking, and not what I am after. I'm looking into Doom-plus/Doom2-plus, but in terms of source ports, I'm only interested in Crispy, and getting Crispy to run on Win 98.

    Crispy Doom 6.0 (Update: Mar 31, 2023)

I'm not a fan of those source ports. Too inaccurate, especially in regard to older GZDoom. They lack the many improvements offered by Crispy. The vanilla look, and the wad support that Crispy offers is a must, otherwise I'd just stick with older Chocolate Doom build on Win 98.

    Crispy Doom 6.0 (Update: Mar 31, 2023)

I wouldn't know where to start, sadly. I put myself together a dedicated Win 98 machine, out of the way (under the stairs, lol), since my new small form factor PC build is only for gaming on the couch with a controller. This old Win 98 PC is pretty much the only place I can play games like DOOM and Duke, now. Plus, this CRT monitor is gorgeous. Understandable if a big undertaking, but if possible, could you compile a version for Win 98.

Can't hurt to try them. That would be great :)

    Crispy Doom 6.0 (Update: Mar 31, 2023)

Have been looking into getting an older Crispy Doom build to run on my Win 98 machine, but I have hit a dead end. Apparently I would need to compile an older SDL build from the source, and I have come to the realization that I have absolutely no idea how to compile lol, or what the hell SDL even is, other than 2.0 doesn't work on Win9x. Seriously, it's like another World to me. I got an older Chocolate Doom to work, but I can't play any vanilla-ish limit removing mods like I can with Crispy, and the 60fps is greatly missed. Is it possible to get a newer version of Crispy, with all the nice quality of life improvements, to work on Win 98. Preferably, one that isn't too old and lacking in features I have got used to on my modern system.

    Crispy Doom 6.0 (Update: Mar 31, 2023)

Can Crispy run on Windows 98, at all ?
  12. It's just a silly video game term. Nothing to do with actual race. Console vs PC gaming warrior bullshit. It's all in good fun, even if it is a little worn by now. Nothing to ever be taken seriously. Though there are sad people that let things like that effect their real world lives. Those are people to just ignore.
  13. Thanks for the suggestions. I have indeed tried these, and switched between api. The reason I mentioned 'not fixable by the user' is because I can't see how it is. As you said, the mod has pushed GZDoom to its limits, and by doing so has brought about performance issues outside of framerates. The performance issue that I'm having is the stuttering. Changing settings would increase the FPS, but this is not a problem I have with my hardware (it holds 60), and this doesn't lower the strain on the engine enough to remove the stutter. I'm not knocking the mod. It looks incredible, and I appreciate all the effort and time you guys have put into it. I'm just saying that I will wait for optimization within the mod and the GZDoom engine itself with future updates.
  14. Yep, I changed settings that would break elements of the mod just to test performance, and would still chug. For me, it's not a case of framerate dropping below my target (it doesn't) it's the stutter, no matter whether you have a locked framerate or not. It's not fixable by the user.
  15. As much has I have been looking forward to this, like earlier builds from a long time ago, I'm going to have to wait a bit longer. There's just too much stuttering, and it really takes the enjoyment out of the mod. Not sure if it is just GZdoom struggling to cope with the mods sheer scale, or something else, but no matter what machine or configuration I use, stutter creeps in all the time. From a modern 2 core Intel CPU machine running at 5.3 ghz, to an 8 core Ryzen 3700x, paired with GTX 1080 and RTX 3070, it makes no difference. Hoping it can be optimized and ironed out eventually, but it's been like this for years, sadly.
