  1. Hello everybody, here is the newest thread on RELAX, the spiritual successor to Chillax. Here are some important updates to note: -We will now feature two gameplay modes, which are essentially just two difficulty levels: Classic Slaughter mode, which follows the likes of Chillax in monster count and difficulty. We suggest pairing this mode with your favorite Over Powered Weapons mod (we are building around eweps.wad) and hosting for online Coop. The other choice is a sort of "Campaign/Story" mode where the monster count is watered down for a more reasonable playing experience and can be beatable with vanilla weapons (Recommended when playing in Single Player). This was created to appeal to a wider audience and have different experiences to choose from. -A Discord channel has been created where you can get more consistent updates: https://discord.gg/j3pvsKr UPDATE, USE THIS LINK INSTEAD: https://discord.gg/CSsUtex -More mappers have joined the team (full list below) -About 10 or so maps are finished, with many currently WIP We are also still open to having more people join in on the project and submit maps if you'd like. You can inquire by commenting on this thread, posting in the discord, or messaging my inbox. UPDATE (11/24/2019): Hey guys, I never laid out some basic guidelines and want to save you guys (and myself) any potential headaches, especially since there are a lot of you on board now. 1. Use UDMF format but keep the maps Zandronum compatible so this game can be played multiplayer and coop. If you are not familiar with Zandronum, it is basically an older version of GZDoom, so you will have everything GZDoom has implemented, but about a year behind in features (lack of cone shaped dynamic lights and fully interactive portals are some of the limitations, nothing too serious) 2. Implement two different difficulties. One should be more appropriate for single play with vanilla weapons while another should be slaughter like as if you were making the map for coop play or an OP Weapons pack. ***This is the "gimmick" or "main feature" about RELAX: it is an indirect sequel to Chillax, but will also have a different gameplay mode available (really just a different difficultly) where it would be more enjoyable and beatable in vanilla single player.*** If you need to make a "Version B" of your map due to the large difficulty different, feel free to do so. But try to implement both in the same map to keep the total file size down, if possible... 3. Feel free to use whatever extra resources (ask just in case) but PLEASE: make your own pk3/WAD for the extra resources. DO NOT modify the main resource pack that I send you. This is important because several of you are using your own resources in addition to the main resource pack, and I don't want to be sent back 10 different versions, trying to figure out what was changed. Just send them in a seperate file and I will be the final compiler once everything is finished. Current mappers are as follows: @DavidRaven @Van Daemon Joseph Pinkston @CaptainManiac @wolfmcbeard @Buckethell Chris "bxn" Spaloss Iain Lockhart We all appreciate the continued interest. Stay tuned for more updates, and please tell us what you think about RELAX so far! Screens of the current build:

    RELAX (Chillax 2) Updates thread

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't posted anything here in a while. The project isn't dead, however it's going through a bit of change-up; I made some smaller projects/contributed to others (Mostly Doomer Board Projects) the past couple years and and wanted to change my approach to level design and modding, as the original idea of this was getting too ambitious (and not as fun in my opinion, to be honest). Stay tuned! I'll have an update eventually, most likely starting on a new thread.

Now Available: EXODUS, a set of 2 large maps

Just how BIG are the maps in EXODUS? Well, check out these comparisons and see for yourself! Full WAD info & DOWNLOAD: HERE
  4. After 4 months of on and off work, I finally have to present to you "EXODUS", a small WAD with 2 casual but LARGE vanilla maps built for Single Player and Coop. These maps were originally intended for 2 different Doomer Boards Projects (DBP) but were either not finished in time, or heavily modified from their original design. You may notice the second map is a much bigger version of my MAP10 from "Auger Zenith" (DBP37). A lot of the motivation to make and release this set here is from all the success AZ had and multiple mentions of MAP10 as a stand out map. Tips for when you play: Save often. They're big maps, so starting over sucks. Exploration pays off. Secrets aside, taking a moment to walk around the many vast areas will usually reward you more than trying to quickly run from one area to the next. Observe and take advantage of shortcuts. If you fall off something, their is usually a newly revealed ladder or lift to take you back. If you're playing coop and respawn, the beginning will have a teleporter to jump you back into the action, and so on... BEFORE DOWNLOADING, PLEASE NOTE: 1. Although the maps are made in vanilla format, this WAD will only run properly in a ZDoom based sourceport (testing was done with Zandronum). It is preferred that you play this with jumping disabled, but mouse look enabled (due to all the verticality). 2. If you plan on streaming or recording and posting to any social media platform such as YouTube, your video may be partially muted, flagged etc. unless you play the WAD with the alternate music track I included in a separate file in the .zip. MAP02 has music that might be filed in the Copyright ID system. More info on this can be found in the Read Me's included. Now Available: EXODUS, a set of 2 large maps

No difficulty gradient has been implemented other than some typical Romero-style-throw-an-extra-cyber-in-there-and-call-it-day stuff for Coop (actually there is a little more than just an extra Cyber in Coop) I am sensing maybe the start of MAP01 is a bit low on ammo? I think it may have been kind of wrong of me to assume people would wander/explore the start area before entering the large building, because I think without doing that the player starts a little dry. You're actually absolutely right. Large maps (not necessarily completion time, but vast open areas) are something players tend to be more wary of these days than say, the early 2000's and earlier. The trend seems to be more compact style maps. Part of my motivation and why these maps were made the way they were, was to challenge myself to make open maps that were good enough that even those generally turned-off by the style would give it a second thought. Also, just to inject some variety into the community and not make same kind of map as the rest. Ironically, the great thing about my work with Doomer Boards was actually the fact that my approach clashes a bit with theirs, because that's what has made me learn the most and try the hardest to figure out a way that both satisfies their feedback while also not significantly sacrificing my style. By the way, I really appreciate that last statement. I don't get to read stuff like that too often, so it's nice you think that. :)

    Guide to new map makers,

I please myself every day! Oh crap, wrong forum... But in all seriousness, I agree that one of your top priorities should be to have fun, the passion and excitement will show in your final design.

    UNSURE [released]

It looks completely fine to me, even after refreshing the page multiple times. I'm not sure what the issue is. I think it may be Doomworld related and not an issue with her post.

    RELAX (Chillax 2) Updates thread

I really appreciate hearing that. You can definitely expect a lot of variety in the maps, and a large step up in game play quality and design with this, compared to the original Chillax. It is quiet different from the original, part of the reason is because none of the people from Chillax are involved with this. The Discord is definitely public and open to all. Feel free to join us whenever!

what are you working on? I wanna see your wads.

Hello, I would like to invite everyone here to follow a project that me and a few others have been working on for some time. It is called "RELAX" and is an indirect/spiritual sequel to "Chillax". None of the members from the original Chillax are involved with this project, and all of the maps are our original work. Some things I believe you guys will happy to hear about this project are: 1. It will be fully compatible with Zandronum and cooperative/online play. 2. Although detailed maps will of course be a feature, one thing we are really focusing on is the interactivity and "eventfulness" of the maps. Many maps will feel "alive". With moving parts and machinery, scripted lighting, earthquakes, fires, weather, interactive security cameras (Much like Duke Nukem 3D), explosions, walls you can blow up etc. 3. HIGHLY varied themes and styles. Your player will go from mountains to caves, space stations to moon bases, Hell and back, abstract/bizarre, and you some maps will take advantage of many modern GZDoom features, while other maps will be well made Classically themed maps using only vanilla textures and engine features. There will be something for everybody! 4. There will be TWO game modes: one is "Casual" and and one is "Chillax/Slaughter" Essentially, these are mostly just two different difficulties: -You should pick the "Casual" mode if you are looking to beat this with vanilla weapons, and are looking to have an easier, more enjoyable single player experience, like your more typical MegaWAD, instead of being forced to deal with the difficulty the original Chillax has. -"Slaughter" mode will be the original style the first Chillax gave, with insane numbers of monsters, and massive battles. This mode will be more suitable for people who want to pair this WAD with an Over Powered weapons mod (Such as eweps.wad or Russian Overkill) and/or would like to engage in large battles with their friends online, as this is where the first Chillax seems to have the most popularity. Please consider following this project and others, under our general modding hub "DOOM Modding" on social media. We will be posting to these locations with updates and activity much more often than here. What are you playing now?

I just finished CZECH Box, a very new WAD which just had it's final release a couple weeks ago. CZECH it out! ;) I highly recommend it.
  21. Damn, ok. Well, I'm still excited about this either way. I'll take what I can.
  22. Following. I'm very interested in seeing where this goes and how things Develop. @Redneckerz or @Graf Zahl, can you elaborate on: "Multiplayer and networking however have a different implementation per game, and thus this was left as-is"? Will net games be supported and user friendly? Always wanted to get a Duke coop game going without running into syncing issues all the time.
