Good gameplay mods/maps for stress relieving?

If you want to have a moment of calm and quiet, one good option is Mr. Friendly. No more fighting, just hanging out, having a chat with the ol' demons, doing little quests, enjoying some fishing... The good stuff. If what you want is to unload, to destroy, to obliterate... Well, I'll side with everyone who has suggested Russian Overkill. Can't go wrong with THAT one.

About You: List 9 important Doom WADs.

I can't resist silly things like these, so I guess I'll. (Kinda bothersome that Lost Episode has no titlepic)

    Where my Linux people at

btw I use arch (and unironically like it, and in addition do note that I'm very self-aware when it comes to the distro's infamy, so thankfully I'm no elitist) On top of that, I'm just rocking a plain openbox setup. No desktop environment, no display manager, nothing. Just jumping straight into an openbox session from a tty, the way I like it. I haven't touched Windows in several years. Hell, I've gradually been forgetting how to use it, which is nice. More free space to remember other things that matter.

Saltiest Doom moment that you recall?

I've had my heated moments (especially with hardcore / slaughter maps), everyone knows that. I'd say my biggest one in recent times was me dropping Blade of Agony chapter 3 about two maps in. The intense frustration I felt through the secret map already had put me in a sour mood, so when it was time to continue into the second mission, I just couldn't. It was impossible for me to keep going. At that very moment, all was pain. This of course happened live, so everyone could witness my descent into madness, my metamorphosis into a salt elemental.
  5. Has anyone mentioned Hellbound yet?

    Doom Lore Theories

This would make a lot of sense if we took Doom 3 as a prequel.
  7. Which is why I played on HMP

  9. Well, I guess I am obligated to play this.

need help finding out what this creepy ass doom wad is

TWBR lump contains text: Well this is certainly something.
  11. Surprised that Hocusdoom has not been mentioned already. It's a pretty solid TC, and an interesting translation of the original 2D DOS platformer to 3D.

whats your favourite target sourceport for making mods?

Even if GZDoom is put together using toothpicks and rubberbands, I can't live without its scripting features, and all the fancy lil' things I can put on maps with it.

What's the most annoying Doom bug?

Glad someone also despises that "feature". I personally added a counter-feature for it in GZDoom out of sheer spite for it ever existing in the first place. Anyway, the blockmap bug is the WORST thing out of all that from a gameplay perspective. The fact that you could potentially whiff even at point blank, in on itself, is an absolute nightmare, especially if landing that hit makes the difference between life and death.

Do you consider the Icon of Sin a god or just a demon spawner?

I feel like it's basically just an enslaved beast forced to churn out demons.

You Get 2 Million Dollars But you Can Never Play Doom Again

Honestly that'd be more than enough funding to form my own studio and make my own games, I wouldn't need Doom anymore.

Why Do Pwads Almost Never Have a Story

    Case in point :P

Why Do Pwads Almost Never Have a Story

Story writing is a skill not everyone has, it can take a lot of effort to come up with something beyond simple oneliners like "you go to <location> and it's infested by demons you have to kill". In addition a story is more than just text, as some others have mentioned in the thread, maps themselves CAN tell their own stories, even if it's small things like the last moments of those who came before you, or some hidden purpose behind the construction of the place (even so, there are more abstract types of map design where nothing makes logical sense). Anyway, the point I'm trying to getting at here is that you don't need NPCs and cutscenes and walls of text interrupting the gameplay to have storytelling, it doesn't have to be an "annoyance" that gets in the way. It's become definitely tiresome to see everyone recite the same old tired mantra like it's universal law. Also, Doom isn't a porn movie. There's a certain other mod for that.
  18. Since people are fond of joking around in the thread, I'll add that Doom Slayer Chronicles is the most beautiful and technologically advanced mappack for Doom2 singleplayer. In regards to serious answers, I'd say Eviternity has taken the crown for me, it's a very solid megawad. I've been absolutely awestruck by it ever since it came out.

Opinions on super-long levels in megawads?

At this point I feel like that map's name is a joke on how long it is. Same thoughts on MAP32 too. It really does drag on far too long, and it's not helped by its accompanying track being way too short, repeating over and over. I think the main problem with maps like these is the routing, and whether it is signalled well. It's easy to get lost if the complexity of the map itself reaches a certain point that you'd have to memorize too many paths. Recognizable landmarks can help, but those are more useful if it's a wide open space, rather than something more densely packed, and the former is hard to pull off effectively in the doom engine.

How to start Eternity Engine 4.02?

Now these are the horror stories that actually can scare me.

... holy shit is Windows bad. First time I hear of this.

Did you find Doom scary when it first came out?

Boy let me tell ya, I was just a young kid, and I was TERRIFIED of those two barons in shareware doom. It took me a long time to actually beat the whole episode. I played on keyboard only, even, so it was hard.

[Megawad] Doom 2 In Spain Only [Now on idgames]

I'm not sure if there's enough of us who do mapping to make a project of that scale.
