Walpurgis- 0.99 (For Doom, Heretic, Hexen) [NEW RELEASE!!!]
CorianderCastor replied to eharper256's topic in Mods & Resources
That Zedek video is terrifying, I like it. I tried in Doom II, wasn't really feeling it, but tried Hexen, and it's really good. Aren't dogs dichromats? More like red/green color blindness, right? Similar to most rodents. -
Doomworld Maximum Project 2021 - On IdGames!
CorianderCastor replied to Obsidian's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Am really in a Hexen mood after the GOG release. Currently running through 3D Game Alchemy with Hexen (maybe this time I'll finish the pwad,) was going to try to make a Hexen map. But, if things go well, perchance I'll try a Hexen-style Doom II map for EE. Have to learn ACS somehow. -
What are the Quake mission packs and are they worth getting?
CorianderCastor replied to Dweller Dark's topic in Everything Else
At least Rogue was kind enough to give you hidden power shields before boss battles. Hypnotic (Ritual) had developers from Wraith Corp. SoA is pretty cool. Laser gun is rather nice too. -
POSSEST (Remake - Commercial)
CorianderCastor replied to Ermin's topic in WAD Releases & Development
Wait, a Hexen II successor, with Hexen style classes, and a muscle woman!? This must succeed! I'm very skeptical about shooters, since I don't actually like many, but I do really want more single-player focused class-based shooters, especially fantasy ones. I also love both Hexens. Haven't played Exhumed though. I see class based ui in those screenies. I like that the life chain is class based in Hexen I, sad they didn't do that in II. -

Haven't PrBoom and EE crossbred? -
Who Else was Born in the Early 90's but Feel's More Like an Early 2000's Kid?
CorianderCastor replied to Dubbag's topic in Everything Else
Having Internet access at a young age and mid-ranged, at best, computers meant I was playing older games and community run games, and falling into a paradise of unparalleled freedom. I miss the idealization of early technological openness. Now we use Discord. Feels bad man. I like saying I was born a cynic, but it's probably a combo of watching Becker and reading The Cat Who Came for Christmas in elementary (I never did read the last one,) as well as a father that denounced traditionalism (i.e. we celebrated Commerce Day instead of Christmas.) So I was the child that heard the golden rule and thought, "does that mean masochists should harm others?" #Phrasing Of course Neverwinter Nights is my nostalgic yardstick of Western crpgs much as Doom II is for fpses. Sadly the world moves on and so it isn't Wizardry 8, for I never did play it in my more formative years. If I look back, many of my personality quirks can be seen manifest. Of course my fursona is a rodent, my favorite movie as a child was An American Tale. -
EE fanboi, can confirm that EE has obituaries.

Favorite bits of [REDACTED] Doom History?
CorianderCastor replied to Doomkid's topic in Doom General
Yeah, isn't EE the one based on SMMU. There's two reasons I prefer the moniker EE: it's what the authors of the port call it, and it equates it to MBF and SMMU. The latter furthers my narrative that EE is the one true successor of Boom. While not idtech1, there is a lot of misconception of the panic button puzzle in Hexen II. I need to check vanilla Hexen II, but in uHexen2 simply waiting at the final button until the text pops up on screen allows finishing the puzzle. Also save scumming works in uHexen2 💯. I tried this after reading it in the comments on the Steam community guide for the game by a user named Panc. -
I mean, I did get the classics on my AC Nintendo Switchero. (Well not 3, which is well over a decade old.) I even co-oped all of Unity add-ons.

Darn, that's Doom history there. Would be cool if it showed up one day.

Favorite bits of [REDACTED] Doom History?
CorianderCastor replied to Doomkid's topic in Doom General
If I know my Doom history, which I don't, there were two major mission statements in doom engines, which can be summed as Boom and DOSDoom. Where Boom is DOSDoom driving the speed limit. I see the contemporary Boom as EE, while GZDoom is the realization of DOSDoom. (Poor EDGE.) There are of course many other statements. PrBoom+ is the demo port and Chocolate is the preservationist port, for example. That is each port does have a raison d'être, many of which are unique. But there's a reason I mostly dabble with I can't believe it's not vanilla, demoport, and that mod thing. But my main driver is slightly slightly slightly faster Boom. More on topic: I once saw someone believe that Gibbet in Hexen was fixed in v1.1 via wikia. The Doom Wiki states it was corrected in the 64 port. -
Heya Hazel-Rah. onemandoom is great reading for wad reviews. If you ever get the itch for doom level development I recommend 3D Game Alchemy. Which this basically is.

I hope this American civil war doesn't get hot. I'd gladly take peaceful divorce over that. I've never really had friends, and have always felt like a perpetual third wheel in any social interaction. Yet I'd, most likely, be mostly happy once I get my life on track. Wish I had creativity though. And all this talk about dysphoria and dysmorphia makes me feel like my brain is wrong. Oh well. Should just get off social media honestly.

I'm okay with huge menu, but, hey, everything in GZDoom can be accessed in the console. 🤷♀️ If the new menu is more newcomer friendly, that's probably for the best, right? Right? ...

What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?
CorianderCastor replied to Neurosis's topic in Everything Else
Recently beat Hexen II and portals for the first time. Currently replaying Hexen, pretty much just have to beat the last hub of Deathkings. Should have played chocolate, but went with GZDoom. Can't wait for EE support but not holding my breath. I should dig out Heretic II and finish the franchise. Might play some user maps for both Hexens, might even try to make some. I was also playing western rpgs, not sure where I'll go when I get back in. I really should beat more blobbers, especially Wizardry 8, but I might play more dandy games; that's my crpg comfort food. Maybe beat Swordflight. -
VZDoom: The Dream Source Port (rambling)
CorianderCastor replied to OpenRift's topic in Source Ports
EE will eventually fill the niche of advanced features and classic feel. In fact the plan is to eventually include complevel equivalencies, most idtech1 games, and scripting (aeon iirc.) Not to mention all it currently includes. I hope it gets better custom game support eventually, since getting it to run Harmony or Chex Quest 3 should be possible with a little elbow grease. Not trivial though; I know since I've tried. -
Ah kill it with kindness and friendship. Anyone remember dream beauties?

Finally beat Hexen II and the expansion, w00t I suppose. -
Borderlands, Destiny, Overwatch Oh,... holy. Uhmm, Doom II: Hell on Earth, Hexen II, Quake III Arena That's not right either. No Hovertank 3-D; oh shi-

Just to add my inane five cents: I love how "Hexen successors" never seem to have the class thing going on. Especially in a post hero shooter era.

Why does Doomworld have such shit politics? This is important: Never idealize people, they will never be what you want them to be, but instead be who they are, and neither you nor them could ever change that. As an American, I can personally tell you that any civilian that thinks they are part of either major political party is an idiot, even more so if they care not about local elections.

The Eternity Engine is the spirit of Boom. Expand Doom for wad creation, but keep the classical feel. Which is an extreme niche for people like me, a so-called lax purist. GZDoom succeeded at the niche that ports like DOSDoom, Legacy, and Vavoom had as goals by being able to implement it's own version of killer features (portals, UDMF, custom weapons, 3D floors, Strife support, etc.), and usability; PrBoom+ is the only demo port bar none; and Chocolate and Crispy have all that's needed for vanilla/limit-removing purists. But for those who love Boom/MBF/SMMU, but want progression, is there any port other than EE? It's a progressivism v. conservatism issue, and EE is going the speed limit which is never glamorous.

This may or may not be helpful, since I don't have much in the way of doom maps or cachet, but the best tutorial for me was 3D Game Alchemy. This is more or less the same thing.

It's great brain exercise to practice with an unfamiliar control scheme btw. Anyway, quicksave is your friend, I use the last slot and name it "quickly!". Especially blind (until you learn blind play strategies.) Ultimately there is only one way to get good though, mindful practice. I got better at games by playing Keen Galaxy vortistyle (no in-level saves) for example.
