Try playing it as it is and you will appreciate what's on display a lot more.

which monster do you hate the most?

For sure. But can i expect a modicum of effort. This isn't OP's first rodeo. Then again i also wanted to make a word pun, so there's that.

which monster do you hate the most?

I dislike these real-life monsters who end up making the most mundane of forum threads. I prefer something more fleshed out.
  4. Tagging @InDOOMnesia because this is equally impressive as DOOM SNES. Latest: Update time: Dread is not dead, but in comes the Grind! Plus: Source code! - https://github.com/Krzysiek-K/Dread-source-drop DREAD Patreon is ending... and long live GRIND! And from @tsak: Update: See Doom E1M1 re-created in Dread Engine, height differences and all! Starting from 1:08:13 see Dread render a recreation of E1M1. People have also been chipping away at the Dread Engine and been making several custom levels for it, so here are two video's showing that off, including a Wolfenstein 3D level: Play Dread: Dread demo is available for Amiga 500 and Atari ST. Links in the video below: Update: KK/Altair released tools to make Dread levels, using Doom Builder. The Dread mapmaking SDK ver. 1907 links: The SDK download - http://devkk.net/files/dread/Dread-Mapmaking-SDK-1907.zip Documentation wiki - http://devkk.net/wiki/index.php/Dreadtool Note: You can't use these directly in the Dread engine, but you can atleast preview them on PC and prepare your levels. Since KK uses Doom Builder 2 for Dread, the SDK contains the needed data and information to create Dread levels using Doom Builder 2 (Or UDB, most likely) Original post: No, you aren't looking at an unreleased Doom SNES shot. You are looking at something that's equally impressive. Enter Dread. Introduction: Doom on Amiga was not a marriage between two lovebirds. Due to the inherit nature of the engine and the machines it had to target, Doom for Amiga only made sense on a 68020 or higher processor and 4 MB RAM. Basically an Amiga 1200. See the DoomWiki page on Amiga for a list of ports that existed for this. The Amiga 500 was the smaller and earlier released brother of the 1200. Hugely popular, it sported an 68000 processor and OCS graphics (Instead of AGA). This thing was woefully underpowered for any shooter - In fact, the most impressive thing is Citadel/Cytadela, which has floor and ceiling texturemaps on a mere A500. But in order to get it playable, you need a postage stamp sized screen. See also this review. Introducing Dread. Dread is done by a demoscener named Krzysztof Kluczek. It is a Doom clone and it does not actually use the Doom engine (Similar to SNES Doom). However, you can use Doom Builder to make maps for it. In KK's own words: In other words, what we are seeing here is nothing short of pure magic given the limitations of an Amiga 500. The first video appeared in a tweet, but KK has since released a video detailing the mapping process, showing he uses Doom Builder to get things going using a custom mapping format. Currently Dread heavily features FreeDoom textures, and Krzysztof cannot thank the team behind it enough as it was essential into getting this project off the ground. Video: All in all, Dread (Working title) is something that bests Doom SNES, venturing into the ''This should not be possible'' realm... especially on a machine as limited as the A500. PS: Be also sure to check out Silas Adventure, A Wolfenstein 3D esque dungeon crawler also made by KK that runs on the Atari Lynx!
  5. This game was the SHMUP for my youth. For years i never could remember what it was called. But it is a forgotten classic.

    thoughts on The Doom Awards™

I for one am glad you kept the spelling error of the Major in it, very apt. (Yeah in case nobody noticed, they can't even spell those who they dislike correctly.) Wait, the origin story for this whole grudge was that? Well then. And indeed - ZDF's thing has literally nothing with DW or the Caco''s.

    thoughts on The Doom Awards™

If the Cacowards are @Bridgeburner56 and @Major Arlene's promotional tools, i say: who cares? They make the most awesome maps, mods and have you now. Having said that, the reason why the perception exists that community members get top favor is simply because said community members constantly churn out quality. That doesn't mean newcomers get eskewed: If anything, the Cacowards spends more and more time honoring the new, the unusual and what not. Writing them is a monumental task. Heck, if i ever develop personal hyperfocus, i would want to join the team aswell and be part of the writing. Having to balance it means it takes a lot out of the likes of @Not Jabba, @Scuba Steve, @esselfortium and what not in order to present everything as is. Heck, we have folks like @Arsinikk putting out amazing stuff when they are still basically just looking around. Seeing the awards were powered by ChatGPT, how one of the users is John Momero (really), i feel overall it screams ''I just want to devalue the awards by complaining that the prominent community members give eachother asspats yearly during the Cacowards'' which is simply not true. IF you really wanted to devalue the awards, come up with something better. Don't go for the lowest common denominator, outbeat it! Doing what Hakros (That's the software guy, right?) did is, really now, just lazy. I feel the golden rule to any and all Doom criticism starting from 2024 should be: GO MAKE A WAD ABOUT IT.

    [WIP] ColdWire

Well now you made me feel happy too, making my opinion more grand than it actually is (Seriously, that is very generous of you, thank you) But yes it looks fantastic. I have seen those shades of blue before, but it meshes very well on the screenshots shown. I know the Caco's get more crowded by the year, so at the very least it should be mentioned on next's years iteration if the level design holds up aswell as the palette and the screenshots do. Also - i am a sucker for any map project that utilizes custom palettes, colormaps or interesting sector lighting. A well crafted colormap or palette showcases consideration in your own work and although an amazing level is still an amazing level with stock assets, it just adds a little more to the scene.

    Helion - C# (0.9.2.9 4/24 - Goodbye BSP tree rendering)

My pleasure. It was long overdue. Helion's a unique project since it technically isn't a source port. I hope this brings even more attention to the project, considering the obvious performance benefits.

That looks insanely good. I love mapsets that partake into custom palette madness. I also highly approve of the word Bespoke as that's what Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter also does - and it works so well. Smelling a little Cacoward contender entry here.

Which sourceport to use to play heretic nowdays?

To be frank, that comparison list doesn't get updated a whole lot. I did keep it up for a while on a different list, but if you are posting so many that i (used to, i should pick it up again this holiday) to do, it becomes kind of trite. But in the here and now, DSDA is a general excellent option for all things Doom. Its very all-round.

Any sort of mp3 -> midi converter that actually sounds good?

It literally says you need an URL. So i suppose Google drive would work?

is there gonna be a new doom game in 2024

Can you just stop with these low effort questions?

    GZDoom compat issues

That's literally not how it works. Just target GZDoom. Unless you use specific GZDoom tools like ZScript, then there is a default version that is the minimum.
  15. Redneckerz

    GZDoom compat issues

So it is modified. Why are you saying it isn't, and then list things that effectively modify the executable? Then just say it needs the latest version. GZDoom is literally one of the worst options when it comes to demo compatibility.

    GZDoom compat issues

The bolded is generally a bad idea to share maps with if they rely on a custom GZDoom build. Especially one that doesn't actually add any features but is modified enough to circumvent general issues.

    Would you?

Can see that happening... ''Hey John, how do you play lilith? You do know those washed up colors aren't correct, right?'' ''Why is it that you still do X wrong in Ultimate Doom Builder?'' ''So, about Daikatana...'' ''Oh wait, this is the John Romero from Doom 3, right?''

    2023 Cacowards

I didn't think people were able to top 2021 and 2022. Was i wrong. I am glad Doot Eternal, celebrating the Midi soundscapes crafted by all these fine people is getting the recognition it deserves. There have been far too many stellar examples this year to list them all. I am glad that, as Doom enters year 30, there is still this level of commitment dedicated to this game. It is rightly one of the classic games.

    [RC5] EVITERNITY II - RC5 Released!

Shadowdropping this is exactly a move that @Dragonfly would do. And obviously, it is with merit: Plumbing out a sequel to one of the Great New Classics, destined to become a new hallmark itself yet not telling anyone is a surefire to set the bar. The first Eviternity set that bar. No doubt this too will be a star. Hats off to a incredibly release. I know the first Cacoward 2024 winner.

It won't cause any legal actions on me, right ?

    Classic SSG Enjoyer no

what is wrong with my doom?

This is hardly surprising. The number one error people have with GZ is when they launch multiple mods or the mods themselves are not compatible with the latest version of GZ, but they blame the port for not launching.

It may also help at this point to just post the wad that causes the issue so other can tell the gotcha right away.
