What do you think are your mapping strengths and weaknesses?

Strengths: I personally feel I have a decent - good grip on the meat and potaters of the map (Gameplay) and I also manage to make thing slook good with out over detailing imo. Weaknesses: My layouts can be very linear, with room-hallway-room gameplay, but I still manage to make the player loop back through the hub area. I am trying to improve this by adding secrets that open up some newer areas, kind of like how e1m1 and e1m2 did it. -

I was bored and was thinking of a new name and I am an earthbound fan so I made a mockup PSI ability.

I personally play on HMP and sometimes UV. But theres a bit of an ego problem with some people where they have their hopes waaaaaay up thinking that they can take on some kind of harder map on UV and when they die 10 times, they dont switch back to HMP or HNTR and just call the map bad for its difficulty, even though the creator of the map maybe made compatibility with other difficulties.

So I have this Earthbound midi from vgmusic.com and I want to know if it fits in a techbase level. I am very unsure if it does. It has the kind of techbase-y feel but still I wonder if it fits. The .mid file: EarthboundKraken.rar

Im 14, and you should know some things from me... This is the internet, youre gonna get criticized for things, even if its harsh. People dont judge you based off your age. And Age does not equal skill. You can be 42 and yet be utter dogshit at mapping. Noone expects you to make the best map ever. In fact, they were trying to help you make a better map (including me) and to deflect this criticism is a slap in the damn face to those who tried to help (including me)

Ive heard some people say things about there needing to be sub forums in the Wads/Mods category. I personally agree, There should be one section where you can post finished wads, and another where you can post your wip stuff. This will help finished wads gain more attention and more people can play the wad and give things like criticism. EDIT: Are any mods seeing this??

I recommend just doing a few practice maps before making some public. You should have at least a bit of experience with your editor and know how to do things like switches and stuff. There are MANY, and I MEAN M A N Y tutorials on youtube. The best channels are Chubzdoomer and Doomkid, they both make tutorials on how to do different things when it comes to modding. Theres also the Doomish Den of Design, which is a map that goes a lot more in depth on what makes a good and fun level. That map is how I learned a lot of new stuff. Also, look at this thread, as you just plop the map onto the forums without giving out any useful info (i.e, Source Port, Type of Map, Editors Used, etc.). Hope you have a good day/night.

Just because its not finished or you're gonna update it doesn't make you immune to criticism. and maybe make a thread when it is actually finished, and post screenshots like @N1ck said so we could see what it looks like first without downloading it.

I dont personally think that there's anything broken imo, but having added subforums will greatly benefit mappers as then they dont have to fight to have their new wad stay on the first page and not be overshadowed by a lot of discussion on another, more popular one. With a new subforum dedicated to just sharing finished maps, new maps can have a lot more attention and more people can play and give feedback and criticism. Again, I think its just adding some organization that could benefit people, not fixing what was not broken to begin with. That is your opinion though, and I respect that. -

I agree with both of these. For the few people that say the subforums can be added with the expense of the expense of simple navigation, Chris Hansen's suggestion is a great alternative. Though I would love to have subforums, as it would actually simplify navigation imo, and Phobus's ideas are perfect for that. I really am supprised at the discussion that came up while I was sleeping. -
Not to be harsh, but its barely a good deathmatch map. Its nothing but a wiiiide open area, no halls or anything, you cant even get onto the blocks in the corners. Probably the only fun thing about it was tryingto dodge an enemy's plasma balls like its touhou.
