Doom + Doom II (2024 Kex Remaster) Bug Report Thread
nickxcom replied to OpenRift's topic in Source Ports
Big mod lists still hard freeze on PS5. Steam deck is fine. Will have to check series x later. Midi clipping and popping still exists -

I will say (and this is not to lessen the bug in any way) this HAS led to me getting some unintentional jump scares and then scratching my head in some maps I've played a million times lol -

It legitimately breaks my heart to report that this does not load on the night dive doom. Not familiar enough to report WHY, but man I wish it did lol. -

I gotcha! You know, I played the first level of AZ in this port like four times and don't remember that but I'm 100% sure you're right. I'll have to check it to it again because map 1 is my source ports test map because of all the interesting stuff they do -
Doom + Doom II (2024 Kex Remaster) Bug Report Thread

This is a weird one, but I have definitely encountered the "glass breaking noise happening multiple times" error before, but I have like 40 source ports and can't remember in which it happened. I remember I legitimately laughed out loud because i was wearing headphones when it happened and it scared me 😆 -
My steam deck has access to literally all the mods in the store right now along with functionality with basically all other source ports too! Having Doom in this format is one of the reasons I bought an original one back a couple years ago (and also upgraded to the OLED). The controller support for the night dive version is leaps and bounds better then any of the others though which makes it an easy choice for portables

I am an absolute mad man about source ports and a digital hoarder so I am absolutely downloading this when I get home from work. I'll give it a go for sure! I'm probably sticking with the night dive port on my steam deck because of ease of controller support and wad loading, but I rotate source ports on my laptop like five times a day lol

Definitely Steam or GOG 👍🏻

Thank you for verifying/confirming! In the mean time I have actually been enjoying the FM synth which I've never really tried before 🙂 -

Actually quoting myself here but I'm not 100% sure if this DOES occur on my laptop. I use virtualmidisynth on my Windows PC that might further modify the behavior of midi playback there. Steam Deck OLED midi clipping confirmed by a third party- I had my girlfriend who is not obsessed with Doom listen and she noticed it too lol -
Doom + Doom II (2024 Kex Remaster) Bug Report Thread

Midi playback exhibits some kind of clipping/popping on both my steam deck and my windows laptop. FM not affected. Most noticeable in mods downloaded via the menu in game, unsure if it occurs with manually "side loaded" WADs. Very strange but I am no MIDI expert lol :) -
Loving the port so far and plays/runs great on the Steam Deck OLED, better than my laptop actually. In MIDI playback, I am getting some odd clicking/clipping almost like they are getting cut off? MIDI playback in the base games seems fine but it's very noticeable in any of the mod download wads. I'm sure it's an easy fix for the team and FM playback works fine so it's not the end of the world. This midi clipping seems to also occur on my laptop but not as noticeable. Can't wait to play through all the Doomkid wads again for like the fifth time lol

Luxtorpeda works great but I am on a quest to get native Source Ports running on the Steam Deck- I like the tinkering lol. ZDL even works natively as well! Source Ports I have found: *GZ Doom is in Discovery Store and works great, controller support is weird/tricky, but works fine once you figure out the proper bindings (applies to all GZDoom based games on Steam as well, Supplice works fine with no tinkering) *Woof now has an AppImage and works great *Nugget has an AppImage and works great *Crispy Doom is on Discovery Store but I had trouble with controls (Would probably work fine with mouse and keyboard) Source Ports I CAN'T find: *DSDA - surprising considering how popular it is! I think an AppImage would be awesome *PrBoom- Also surprising! *Doom Retro (I would love an AppImage for this one too! @bradharding is such a thing possible?) *International Doom (Also see above. @Julia Nechaevskaya any chance of this? :) ) Please no pressure at all, as I realize Linux/the Steam Deck is a niche setup, but I would love to get my grubby mitts on as many Source Ports as possible. I'll even test builds for you if you want! Are there any other source ports I am missing? Especially if they have an easily accessible AppImage I am absolutely interested :)
-
Very cool! I never knew this existed! You know, I think you told me you were on vacation before :) Enjoy your time away from programming! I will have to look into this. I've never had to compile anything on the Steam Deck before but I know it's possible lol

International Doom/Heretic/Hexen 8.0 (updated October 6, 2024)
nickxcom replied to Julia Nechaevskaya's topic in Source Ports
Had to bust out my backup laptop. Awesome stuff as always! My kingdom for an AppImage lol -
@fabiandelivered the AppImage as promised :) Between Woof and Nugget having app images and GZDoom in the Discover store, my Steam Deck is almost completely good to go. Just need to get a DSDA AppImage and I am completely set. (Also Doom Retro and International Doom haha)
-
Thank you so much!! Updated my directory and it works fine now ❤️
-
Super excited to see an AppImage for ease of use on Steam Deck! Is there any way to pick a soundfont/midi player on Linux? I get a "fluid synth" missing pop up on launch. I guess I am also curious where the local files/config are saved on Linux, if anyone can help there :)
-
Any chance of a Discovery Store build? 👀 Barring that, can anyone point me to something showing how to get Eternity Engine running on Arch Linux, or the steam deck in particular? I've fallen down the "Doom on Steam Deck" rabbit hole, and got GZdoom and ZDL working pretty seamlessly, but having trouble with some others
-
Thank you so much for the tip! I can't believe I forgot about that. I got it working now, thank you :) Last oddity I need to solve: Music doesn't play by default using Proton but changing to ADLMIDI in sound does- doesn't sound great but it plays at least lol. I think with tinkering in sound options I might be able to get this nailed down. I've noticed a lot of oddities in SFX clipping incorrectly and missing MIDI playback when running things through Proton so that isn't an EE-specific problem. Thank you so much for your help @Edward850. Once I get music working I'm playing through Heartland again
-
I've actually done that, but I haven't gotten it to work through ZDL. Sorry should have elaborated lol

Holy guacamole I know what I'm doing on my lunch break :) Can't wait! -
Oh man, extremely blessed- thank you! :) I know linux is a small market share, but the steam deck has honestly proven to be the absolute perfect "doom" device for me in both handheld and docked so I am on a mission lol
