    The Title name change

Hello everyone! I would like to ask if there is a chance that the GZDoom startup name can be changed? I have noticed it can be done in a lot of other wads, so I figured why can't I change it for my own wad? If anyone knows how to achieve this. Thanks!

    Automap name change

Hello! I have a question regarding map changes; I have succeeded in changing the map name in WhackEd4 and it shows correctly on the intermission screen but while viewing the automap it still remains unchanged from the level that I changed. When I did my first map it changed both, but for the life of me I cannot remember what I did. Does anyone of you fine people know how to change the name in the automap so it displays it correctly? I would be very thankful. Cheers!

    Automap name change

I'm terribly sorry for the late answer, but I have delved into your advice and have figured it out for myself that MAPINFO is the best way to go. It is the most simple and easiest thing to do. I hereby thank you for pointing me in the right direction and taking the time to write. Cheers!

    Lines becoming impassable/disappear

I ended up deleting the whole thing and re-doing it. It's smooth so far, no problems like this yet. Bit more time to do certian stuff, but I rather have this than it screwing up on me again. So this is like a bug? Because I've googled what this could be and haven't found anything related to this type of problem before. But this does seem to be the closest to what I'm facing.
  5. Hello! I have a slight problem when trying to draw lines. Everything was alright, and then in this particular area, the line doesn't appear when I finish it, and if I connect it, it just becomes an impassable one, with the texture being off on one side. I know about the option to make in passable but that doesn't help. If anyone encountered this issue before, please let me know what I'm doing wrong or how to fix it, cheers!

    Lines becoming impassable/disappear

I'm using the latest, up-to-date version of Ultimate Doom Builder. I'm currently still working on the map, and it's a bit too big to upload...

    Lines becoming impassable/disappear

Nothing works. Nothing in that area works. I draw a line anywhere and right click it, it vanishes, then if I do connect it, it becomes white and screws up. The auto-finish also doesn't work. I googled this problem and nothing popped up that properly explains this. I don't know what to do; I just can't build anything in that particular area. I tried copying it and pasting it somewhere else on the map, but it stays the same no matter what. Now I tried to move the other lines and it screws up everything. Down below; I had a line, then just moved it up a bit and it fucked up and became impassable. That's what's going on.

GZDoom switching me from 144hz to 60hz

I tested the system by putting GZDoom on the list of graphics then told it to use high performance instead of listening to windows and it worked...but then I was curious, so I disabled it back the way it was...and it still worked...then I removed it from the graphics menu completely...and it still worked... This is so confusing to me, I don't know what the hell is going on or why this is bugging out.
  9. Hello! I happen to run into a problem with the refresh rate suddenly when playing Doom. This whole time it was alright in 144hz refresh rate, and then I launch the game today and it keeps reverting to 60hz for some reason. I am getting frustrated because there's no way a change just happened overnight. Did anyone else struggle with this, or is it just me again? I've tried everything I know, so suggestions regarding this would be super helpful right now. Cheers !

    About level Doom level design

Hello everyone! I want to thank each and every one of your for your reply, it means a lot to have so many contributions! I have figured that perhaps the term "useful" wasn't the best to use in this matter, as I found myself in moments when I question what I'm doing with my life whilst designing levels and that sometimes has a negative impact; as if I'm searching for some meaning in those situations aside from having a ton of fun and sharing. SLADE caused me some headaches in the beginning as well, but once you master it, and know what you're doing, even that can become exciting, especially when you're in the eyes of someone and it appears like magic to them, lol. I loved that by reading your lovely opinions and comments I found a familiar patern that we do not differ much, and share a ton of love for this kind of work and art in general; the way it keeps us up, the way we do it just for ourselves because in a way, it identifies us--overall through art and that alone is reward for us to keep going. I'll know where to ask, should an interesting question like this one occur once more. Thank you so much for taking the time to share!

    About level Doom level design

Hello everyone! I recently thought about the things I do in life and when I thought about making maps for Doom I started to ponder the question of usefulness. The question I got for you peoples, is: How do you see/feel about doing maps for doom, or any build engine game for that matter? Would you say it's a useful trait to have; thinking any other possibilites, taking into account that you had a lot of learning to do and to spend quite some time trying and failing before achieving greatness? Or do you think nothing of it and purely do what you do because it's simply...fun and super cool to do? Speak and share your thoughts!

    Sound files and their use

I wish to thank everyone who took the time to write their solutions, means a lot! I'll try everything and hopefuly learn a few things along the way. Cheers!

    Sound files and their use

Hello! I have a question for you lot and it goes a little something like this: If I were to choose to put in some custom sounds, let's say: a voice line or something similar, how do you make that happen? And can you even make that happen? Has anyone ever done this or attempted it? Any feedback would be much obliged!

    Sound files and their use

Man, you are really helping me out here, Gez. I've browsed some youtube videos but can't really get direct answers like this. I'll try my best to execute this method the way you told me, I hope you don't mind if I stumble upon another question to ask you, since I really can't find any other explanation. But it's nice to see that it's possible.

    Sound files and their use

I see here that it is limited to: ENTER, LOAD, RESPAWN, so these are then triggers for these lines to activate. I was wondering can you do it so that it triggers just like any other thing, like opening doors, or killing a certian amount of enemies in a room? I have envisioned this as, you get teleported somewhere and the marine says something, and again, at the end of the wad, when all enemies in a room are dead. Is that possible to achieve with this method?

    Sound files and their use

I'm using UDMF, Hexen format, on GZDoom. I thought that maybe I'd record a voice line and just add that in for a little story part at the beginning. I always thought that it would be like recording it, putting the file in Slade, then somehow script it so it triggers in the game. But it's probably not that easy is it? Like, that's the thing I wish to figure out. How can I fulfill that in this format that has so many possibilites?

    Cage texture issue

Hello, I would like to ask, if anyone knows what's the deal with the cage texture going through the floor and being on display...in the floor? Like this image before you. This was someone else's post, but it's the issue I'm currently dealing with. I fixed it with switching to different renderers, but I know I had it set on True Color SW Renderer and everything worked before, but now it seemed to change... Does anyone got any clue? Many thanks!
  20. Hello! My question for all of you is, can copyrighted music be used in custom levels, even if the wad is free and just to screw around with? Or is it strict no-go crucifiction in effect if it's used? I'm not talking about MIDI's, I'm talking about a metal track from a specific artist that would go with the atmosphere of the level itself and have pondered this quesiton for quite some time. And if MIDI's are okay, can any MIDI be used in a custom level without getting in trouble?

Question about music in custom levels

But that's a no to the metal (no MIDI) music? Even if I bought one track and credited the artist? Damn, and it fitted so good...

    The WAD question

Hello! I got a question regarding making a custom wad and it goes something like this: I downloaded custom textures, I downloaded custom monsters, I edited some colors of certain weapons in the main Doom2.wad folder. How can I make these things run when it's all set and done? Because the color changes are in the doom2.wad folder, not the custom map itself? The textures need to be in the map folder, I know that. I presume the custom monsters and stuff needs to be in the custom wad folder as well, but what about the custom sky? That also won't appear in the game for the player, because I have, once agian, modified the Doom2.wad file, no the custom map itself. So how can I get this to work? Can I even get this to work? Would be grateful for any help.

    The WAD question

I would like to thank every single one of you for taking the time to reply and helping out. Seeing all of us engage in this topic is just amazing. I've learned a ton and I'm already improving with the knowledge gained. It's pretty simple once you actually understand the whole thing; just need to ask the right questions. I will, without doubt, have more of those in the future. Thanks again!

    The WAD question

I've been at it all day, and I finally have the feeling like I'm getting some god-damn where. The sound files I put between F_END nad SS_START and that's the only way they're in and there's no errors. The sprites are from SS_START to S_END and the custom monster DECORATE files are under S_END. I've added 3 monsters this way and not one of them popped with an error yet, so I figure I gots to be doing something right?

    The WAD question

I actually managed to insert a custom demon without any problems now that you've told me about these markers (thank you so much by the way!) Only one thing; The sound effects of the monster and everything plays in the game itself, but before the game starts it quickly says "invalid data encountered for texture Map01.wad: (demon sound). I've been looking at the Doom II structure just like magicsofa said and I'm a bit boggled as to why it's still invalid? Surely it's properly placed?
