    Revolution! demos [-complevel 2]

Indeed, but this is a step closer at least, and the method might be of interest (I do the glide backwards): Map25 UV Speed/Pacifist in 0:07. Would have been cooler if I'd avoided any forward movement perhaps. Regarding multiple glides generally, my experience is that once you've got through the first gap, the rest of the glides follow automatically as long as you don't change your angle (examples from my own demos: Equino-X E1M9 - equ9p110.lmp; Darkcvnt map10 - dc10p004.lmp). I wouldn't state that as a hard-and-fast rule though.

Yeah, this is silly and it has gone on more than long enough.

The rules for Tyson don't require you to get any of the secrets, so you could have saved a few seconds at the end by skipping the soulsphere secret.

Thanks. I tried for a while but couldn't get it to happen again. Perhaps the crashes were due in part to some other stuff I had running at the time (I had quite a lot of resource-hogging programs active, IIRC).

Ones for some of the British regional accents would be quite funny too. He's Australian. One for lager, and the other for ... well, beer, I suppose.

The side of the plinth - it's visible if the model is standing up. Just above where the copyright symbol is. It's in quite small lettering - about half the point size of the text on the underside.

entryway: I found it generally happened when I s50ed into them, or rubbed up against them. But the first time I noticed it, I wasn't doing anything fancy. Let me know if the overflow appears to have any impact on gameplay or demo sync. One odd thing: on one occasion when the overflow had occurred, I then got a crash when attempting to warp to E3M7 (ICLEV37). I was only able to reproduce this once (and obviously can't record a demo showing it), but do you think it could have anything to do with the overflow emulation? Crashes like this are exceptionally rare for me with glboom-plus. cycloid: I fixed a few errors in your table. Note that I haven't verified it in any systematic way for accuracy or completeness. Regarding E3M1 NM/Speed, I've got several times of 0:08.2x in Prboom-plus (maybe some lower - I didn't always look at the exact times), with less than perfect running. I press the switch without moving first, and run more directly to the exit than in Anima's demos - I use one pillar fewer. Unfortunately, when I try in Doom.exe (which should save 0.22), my starting angle is such that I can't press the switch without also moving.

Note: a spechits overflow is possible on E3M8. So if you record on that map, you'll probably want to have emulation turned on (or use Doom.exe) and have the warning turned off (so it doesn't interrupt you in mid-flow). The problem is caused by all four sides of the bars being openable with a key (unlike, say, Doom2 map19 where only the three sides facing the player are keyed). That makes a total of 12 special lines all very close together.

It says that these figures are made by Sandra Garrity. She made the cyberdemon model included in the id Anthology (and possibly others of the Reaper Miniatures Doom figurines - I don't know). If you look at the base of the cyber (if you have it), you will see the letters "SL GARRITY". So this probably isn't a coincidence.

I'm sure 0:07 is possible on E3M1. You can jump straight across from the lift - 0:08 is pretty easy then (maybe that's what Anima did).

Initial run (UV Speed, Normal Exit) on E2M5 in 0:49. The final room looks chaotic, but I had surprisingly few problems there. So I'd say this one is capable of a fair amount of optimization. And I suppose Pacifist should be feasible.

I've updated the list. The newly-added ones are shown in red. [Edit (24-Aug-2007): red highlighting now removed, as the updating is not exactly recent any more.]

    Ancient wads

1: If the txt (or other documentation) does not grant permission to distribute, then you cannot upload. If it does grant permission, but the txt is not in the standard format, create a txt yourself using the archive's standard template, filling in any missing information, deleting any statements that don't apply, and quoting from the information the author did supply. 2: Ty requires there to be a valid e-mail address for the uploader. So put in your e-mail address. Use spamblockers in it if you like - just as long as Ty is able to contact you if need be. 3: Generally, modified id levels are not allowed, but this isn't a hard-and-fast rule. Maps that contain "tribute" areas but are mostly original work are normally OK, as are remakes that have been created from scratch. Ask Ty if you think there is a marginal case. What is definitely not OK are ones where someone has just taken an id map and made a small number of changes to it, such as a few textures, a trivial additional area, or packed E1M1 with cybers, etc. And before uploading, check carefully that the wads in question aren't already in the archive, or haven't been replaced with updated versions. Sometimes the file name has changed, so it makes sense to search for the author's name and if there are some other wads by the same author already in the archive, to take a quick look at the text-file in case it mentions earlier versions or maps from which it was compiled.

    Creatures

Two cats, one fully black, the other white apart from a few ginger spripey areas (tail, small patches on top of head, and little bits on legs). Both are DSH. Black is a sleek build, while White is more the muscular type (relatively short limbs). Black damaged one of his carpal pads a couple of years ago (at a time when there was a lot of ice about - perhaps he misjudged a jump), while White suffered a dislocated hip a few months ago (probably an argument with a vehicle, so he was quite lucky). White is the "in everything, on everything", unpredictable type. Black is more a creature of habit, and generally "sensible". In temperament, they're about as different as two cats could be, but they seem to have reached a slightly uneasy truce.

Actually, I notice that Vile used a shortcut of that type in his 30tv3108.lmp, so the credit should go to him.

    Revolution! demos [-complevel 2]

Well, it's still no oil painting, but I've knocked ten seconds off, and it's now pacifist (actually, staying pacifist is simply a route improvement), so here it is: Map12 UV Pacifist/Speed in 0:28. Could go somewhere under 0:20 with a smooth glide and a cooperative caco.

    Revolution! demos [-complevel 2]

I did a first-exit 0:38 UV Speed on map12 (using a glide). I won't upload it right now, because it's kind of ugly and should be improved. Regarding map10 Speed, I have an idea for skipping a linedef (by wobbling against a lost soul) and so keeping the exit accessible from the shaft. No luck with that though. One smaller improvement over the standard route should be possible at least: when emerging from the shaft, you can jump across some crates onto the walkway directly, rather than having to use the switch to lower it. This should save 2-3 seconds.

    Laptop

In my experience, you can generally expect a laptop to perform slightly less well for games than a desktop machine with similar specifications. However, modern laptops and the graphics cards designed for them are pretty much full-featured, so you're unlikely to have many problems even with hardware-accelerated Doom ports, unless you're looking to get a really cheap, basic laptop. If you're planning to use an exe with software rendering, you'll most likely be OK even then. My newest laptop is a Pentium-M 745 (Dothan) with an ATI Radeon Mobility 9700, and the game performance seems fully acceptable. It's hard to compare it objectively with an equivalent desktop machine, as the central hardware components are ones designed specifically for laptops. However, I do typically get up to a 50% better framerate in glboom-plus (using, e.g., nuts.wad to test its limits) on this laptop than on my older desktop machine (P4 2.2 GHz with GeForce4 Ti 4600). That's similar to the performance difference between these two machines for purely computational tasks. My guess is that you should be OK. If you want to be really safe, post here with the specifications of your intended purchase (and the exes that you'll be looking to run on it), and hopefully a hardware expert will read it and say if there are any likely problems.

    Genetic Disaster Released

FWIW, I downloaded the four files, made a new installation (as recommended), copied the iwads there, and Genetic Disaster worked fine (on four-year-old hardware) first time, without any fuss. The wad looks good. OK, I'll own up to having just a tiny little bit of prior experience with the R3D launcher, so I knew to look in "Udir folders".

    Extremal Doom Demo Pack

I've checked two things: 1. It is the same in the original (iwad) version. This isn't a problem introduced in the conversion to pwad format. 2. This imp can be killed using rocket splash damage. (Perhaps you did that in your demo - it's not 100% clear from your post whether you left this one unkilled.)
