    "Life After The Oil Crash"

There's no doubt about it, we need more nuclear power stations. Even that would be pissing in the wind for northern Europe though if the Global Conveyor (or at least the Gulf Stream) breaks down.
  2. Greenland info here, here and here. Further links here. Island vs Continent; a different view

    "Life After The Oil Crash"

I didn't see the original title, but I've renamed it again so as to reflect its subject-matter.

When a Geocities link is given, it might be best if "Automatically parse URLs" is turned off, so that people have to cut and paste the address, rather than clicking on the link (which generates an error for a lot of people). Thus: http://www.geocities.com/hammer81z/walk_prboom2.zip

It has worked for me OK so far, though I have only watched a handful of demos with it. Even though 2.3.0 is an experimental release, I don't think it's meant to have poor demo compatibility - it's just less extensively tested. Indeed, it has a lot of compatibility modes that 2.2.x lacked (though the documentation of this isn't too good). The only time I had a problem was when I paused during playback, and started fiddling around with the compatibility options. When I put them back the way they had been and tried to unpause, the program didn't want to know - which is hardly surprising. The camera movement feels quite slow - I'm used to the faster movement of the Eternity walkcam. It's nice and fast if you use timedemo though. The fire-button feature is great - an excellent idea. Oh, and now that Eternity 3.31 beta5 is available for download again, I've uploaded schepe's cool hack to my webspace again (there hadn't seemed much point keeping it there, given that you also need the Eternity package to make use of it).

Bought a copy of final doom today......

You might have been able to get a copy on the cover disk of a magazine (a lot of wads were distributed that way back then) if hadn't been released as part of Final Doom, but anyway I agree with you. Any Doom enthusiast would have leapt at the chance to be part of an id project. But this is an old old old discussion. Incidentally, Ty gave some very interesting information about the project in this thread.

Yes, I've got a copy, and shall e-mail it to you shortly.

Bought a copy of final doom today......

It's explained here. The people who were outraged probably formed quite a small proportion of the community though. I don't remember it being a big deal, and I was a regular at the CompuServe Action Games Forum at the time (most of the TeamTNT guys were active there).
  9. Incidentally, do you have a copy of this question exactly as it was asked, or are you just going on this girl's recollection of it?

I'm pretty ignorant about the ins-and-outs of all this, but Prboom is made available under the GNU General Public License, so you should read the file called "Copying.txt" in the Prboom package to see what the rules are. Here's a relevant passage: Anyway, this sounds like a very nice piece of work. I don't know why Eternity's download links have been broken for so long.

    Icarus Demos [-complevel 2]

Wow, "the impossible map28" done on NM. :) I remembered there were some ideas to stop the monsters teleporting in, but I imagined they would be useful for UV Speed, but not enough for NM. Well done! I spent a while trying map26 NM but skipping health and ammo. As you can imagine, my screen was red most of the time, but I very nearly made it once - I was past the baron but he failed to get distracted by other monsters and clobbered me just an instant before I would have been safe (probably would have been just under 0:30). It's nice to see that my tatty map21 NM100S was useful. I've copied your demos to the usual place. Just one more from me: a nomonsters on map19 showing a trick route. For once, the red key is the only one that isn't skipped.

    Hell Revealed 2 Demopack

Opulent did map07 fairly recently. Table Demo. Despite the filename and location, it isn't an HR map27 demo. According to that table, there wasn't a map11 demo for the beta. Vile: I didn't think there was anything wrong with your comments in the text. Anyway, it's a great pack. I watched all the demos as they came in, so I've nothing to watch now. :( I'll rewatch them all pretty soon though, I suspect.
  13. Reminds me (a bit) of a time when I was at in a school in London (not as a pupil, but for an event that was being held there). A stack of exercise books was lying around, and glancing through them, it was clear that the teacher had recently attempted to explain the difference between "objective" and "subjective". When the pupils had tried to explain it in their own words, they had mostly come up with things like "The difference between objective and subjective is that objective is good and subjective is bad."

    Team QUAKE needs level builders

Unless I have misunderstood, this is a Quake-themed project for Doom (albeit np-tag-bait).

    Dumb question:

Make sure the Legacy files are in the same folder as your iwads (or copy the iwads to your Legacy folder). Run Legacy.exe. Then you can use the Legacy Launcher, if you wish.

    Help! DeHackEd is dumb!

This thread's title is needlessly offensive. Anyway, check your dehacked.ini file.

    Dumb question:

In a command prompt or from "Start button ... Run" (you'll probably need to put the path in front of it then; e.g. c:\doom2\doom2 -file wadname.wad). Obviously, that doesn't involve DoomBuilder. I don't know how you'd do it from inside DoomBuilder (never used it), but I'm surprised it doesn't work "out of the box" - the equivalent function seems to work OK in WadAuthor under XP. Have you given your map a valid DOS filename? (eight characters maximum, no spaces, etc.)

    Dumb question:

    doom2 -file wadname.wad

    Dumb question:

If you're using XP, that might explain the problem. See here for details.

    whats your resolution?

GLBoom: 1600x1200 (well, why not?). Prboom: 640x480 (since it's most stable then). Eternity: 640x400 (best it's got). Doom(2).exe: 320x200 (duh). That's on a 19 inch monitor.

    Geek Annoyances

Funny, that reminded me of this thread: "Believe it or not, i got a 1.5ghz for free."
  24. The political spectrum is not one-dimensional. In principle it ought to allow for multiple parties that are all "equidistant" from one another, and so would not lead to a distortion of the results. Not that that's going to happen in practice, of course, especially given that such "distances" can be a clearly defined concept. Being "green" doesn't mean you're necessarily "left" or "right" - just that you give ecological issues a high priority.* Likewise, why should anarchists be regarded as left wing? Don't left-wing policies generally involve a more centrally managed economy? *OK - maybe the "Green Party" you refer to has other/different agendas.
