DOOM easter eggs / references / injokes

Since nobody else has posted it yet, there's a terminal in Lazarus that has a scrolling list of a bunch of QuakeCon volunteers of years' past:

A bad impression from poor performance?

Hold off on buying a card until the Vulkan renderer gets released at least, and see what kind of perf gain you get from there. You'll also be able to pickup some 900 series cards on the cheap as the 1000 series comes out.

John Carmack is not thanked in the end credits

There's an interview somewhere talking about the origins of the glory kill system coming from a system in the game that was pre-reboot.

Lots of little things on the terminal code:

I believe there are a ton of goofy references and "lore" on the module descriptions in Snapmap
  6. I'm the other QL dev, FYI. Nothing has been finalized yet. Mostly doesn't imply removed, either.
  7. It's being discussed for certain modes/public configs in QL
  8. Quake Live also has ~130 maps. Expecting people to learn map layouts for that many is insane. The upcoming Steam release will have Workshop support for maps, too, so that number will shoot up even more. We've also changed it since the initial release: it's now just 1 weapon + the regular machinegun, still limited ammo so you do have to move around the map a little bit, and grenades aren't even a choice anymore. There's definitely a lot of reason to pick SG or Plasma, so you mostly can't go wrong with whatever weapon you pick. There's certainly a lot that can be said for loadouts in Quake Live gameplay wise, but we definitely noticed a difference in how much time a new player spent on the game when we released on Steam. It went up on average to not even a full match (<10 minutes) to about an hour with the Steam release. Still pretty low, but it's an old game that is still monstrously hard to learn.

Doom 3: BFG Edition for NVIDIA SHIELD devices

Yea, this is correct. There's no source available for the Shield version.

    Who's going to QuakeCon?

I'll be there, but I guess I have to be.
  11. Figure I'd throw this out here for those who aren't following, but we're running a little Doom 2 tournament at QuakeCon this year: http://www.quakecon.org/2013/06/quakecon-tourney-update/ I haven't really been involved with the Doom/Doomworld community since I was around 12 years old or so as the posts in my post history probably indicate (I'm too afraid to look at how embarrassing they are) but for anyone who's in the Dallas area, this might be a good year to come by and check it out. I'm pretty excited to see how this goes, since we've never ran the original Doom games as tournament games.

    Doom classic ios

Looks like everyone already caught that the GitHub is up. Doubt it. I think this was just to fix it on newer iOS. There's no active development going on w/ it atm.

I've let people know that our GitHub is out of date. Will let you know when I hear something new back.

    Doom 2 Tournament at QuakeCon

Hi folks, the full details and rules have finally been announced for anyone who is still undecided and able to make it out on such short notice: http://www.quakecon.org/2013/07/get-registered-for-this-years-quakecon-tournaments/ http://zmi-cdnstatic.s3.amazonaws.com/bethblog/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/QuakeCon_2013_20th_Anniversary_Doom_Challenge_Rulebook1.pdf

    Doom 2 Tournament at QuakeCon

Heh, I'm a little surprised at the amount of interest at the tournament, but it's cool that people are thinking about coming out. (and believe me I'm already familiar with bits and pieces of all the drama that has happened within the community) I can't give out a ton of details, but I can say that it is an open tournament, so the rules will have to be a balance between casual and hardcore duel (we can't run duels without timelimit in such a time-constrained environment). We do want to keep it close to the original game running on a PC, we'll likely end up on one of the client/server ports. (D2 in BFG on the PC doesn't do multi) You'll never win everyone over with rule choices and maps, though, especially with the way some of the ports have modified the original game, but I think we can get most of the way there. I would definitely encourage everyone to come out to QCon, especially to hang out with other people in the community, which was why I originally just mentioned local/semi-local in my first post. I'd love to give out full details on everything, but that kind of stuff is above me.

    Tritese

PK4s are parsed on startup, and are just zip files - you don't load them directly. Type map k(tab) and see if it pops up in the autocomplete (map names appear in autocomplete now w00t!) If not, make sure it's in the right directory I guess.

    Doom 3: Arena?

(This is probably the most I've posted since I've joined, I guess now that I finally can actually be useful) I've notice when fooling with the editor that D3 has a slightly larger scale. You can see this in the Q3toD3 screenshots - look at the steps in the first screenie, and the catwalk in the second. You'll probably need everything to be 1.1x or so in order to look proper, and not look like you're Andre the Giant.

    My WAD Is In Progress

There are quite a few - non shitty - Doom3 maps out. http://d3.filefront.com has a few, the rest I'm thinking from are from the #qeradiant regulars.

but if the dc runs doom, doesn't that create some wacky infinite loop, causing the world to collapse? i'm not quite sure why i started posting again either.
