  1. Memento Mori 2 Hell Revealed would be fine too, but maybe it's too soon after Kama Sutra.

    Last time playing Doom?

It's been at least 10 years since I last played them all the way through. I do find myself often playing subsequent IWAD levels after I finish a short PWAD. I must've finished MAP02 hundreds of times by now.

    /Newstuff Needs Another Revival

You're right that I may be too cynical. I also recognize that the reviews mean different things to different people. I treat them mostly as a download guide, so I prefer short and succinct reviews. Lately I've been mostly ignoring /Newstuff because it's not timely anymore. I have been relying on /idgames reviews instead. I guess I could do that in the future too... I'm not saying that the quality of the reviews should be lowered all over the board, I too am happy to read good reviews about interesting projects. I'm just saying that low quality reviews should be tolerated because that encourages people to make reviews in a spur of a moment, thus encouraging the participation of people who don't normally do reviews or are unsure of themselves. I can live with the current situation, I just think it's a shame, because I think the purpose of /Newstuff is to show the newest of the new stuff that the Doom community has to offer.

That doesn't make any sense. That's good, but you only did it because of this revival. Is this how's it gonna be in the future? A short period of feverish activity followed by months of neglect? I'd rather have the threshold for review quality lowered permanently.

Balanced and well-considered is all well and good, but if nobody's gonna write those kinds of reviews and there's months' worth of backlog, maybe it's time to think about lowering the standards.

If you have hesitations about reviewing, forget them. I'd rather have short, sucky reviews and a short backlog than the current situation. I have a few days of vacation coming. Maybe I'll grab some of these.

The DWmegawad Club plays: Kama Sutra

I would vote for either Unholy Realms or Doom 2 The Way ID Did It, but if neither of them are out of beta by the end of the month, I'll vote for Hellbound.

The DWmegawad Club plays: Realm of Chaos

It's too bad that you decided to no-clip in MAP13. I was starting to get some masochistic pleasure out of watching you fail to revisit the northern room with its Pestov Platform. On a side note, it's interesting to see how variedly the difficulty levels are implemented. Jim Bagrow maps are almost neutered on HMP (you are playing on HMP, right?), whereas MAP12 for example has almost identical monster population compared to UV.
  9. I'd like to nominate Memento Mori 2, but out of those four, Hell Revealed is my clear favorite.
  10. I was going to suggest another classic Doom2 megawad like Hell Revealed or Memento Mori 2, but D2TWID is fine by me.

    The 'worst games ever' thread

Would you kindly mince words in the future? Your self-righteous posting is upsetting me.

Ammo at the start of MAP09: 400 bullets, 92 shells, 56 rockets, 400 cells.

It's the 6th, shouldn't we be up to MAP06 by now if we're to finish by the end of the month? MAP05 - my favorite map thus far (and I've played till MAP08). I really like the looks of the level, the nightmarish feeling you get from Hell so severely invading reality. A dock is an under-explored theme in Doom mapping and this one was nicely realized. Level progression was a little confusing and combat wasn't terribly exciting but this was a memorable map. I liked the story blurb for this section as well (not something I could say about other maps).
  15. Oh come on, don't quit now, I enjoy reading your comments. Just cheat yourself some weapons and ammo or skip to map 15.
