  1. It's very unlikely I'll have anything done by the deadline map-wise, so you can throw another one of those Moustachio maps back in there. I think I can knock out a song or two in the remaining time frame we have though; I assume we're still in need of original music.

    Community Rules for mapmakers/modders?

Generally you should take a look at the description or credits page of a mapset/mod to see if they grant permissions to reuse any of their work in your mods (most everything uploaded to Doomworld/idgames will have a .txt file that will go over said permissions, and a lot of .pk3 packages that you'll find on ZDoom forums and the like will have a credits.txt file packaged in). It would still be good etiquette to credit that author if you do use something from their work, regardless of how much or little you used. As far as general conduct goes, so long as you aren't hurling abusive speech at anyone or anything like that, you'll be fine. Welcome to the forums!

Which Alien Vendetta Version Is The Best

To be more specific, Black Label is an add-on file that contains two levels, that replace the first two levels in the main WAD. One of those levels was a reworked Valley of Echoes. I played a little of the first map when it came out; seemed pretty good but a little long. I'd say stick with the second release, play the Black Label levels after you're done, and if you're curious about the first release, go back and check out the old levels for historical value.

    Is Requiem That Good?

It is, as with most things, a subjective matter of taste. I would recommend playing it for yourself and forming your own opinions, keeping in mind, of course, that this is a mapset from 1997, and can't be judged in the same way as a mapset from, say, the last 3-5 years. Personally, while I haven't gone back to finish it, I generally enjoyed what I played.
  6. As part of my never-ending quest to actually release a thing on my own, I'm going to get in on this. We'll see what I come up with.

    DOOM 4 VANILLA v3.2

Should be as easy as dragging the WAD and deh files onto the GZDoom executable together (or using a 3rd party launcher to load said files). What have you been doing to load the files?

    DOOM 4 VANILLA v3.2

I've been playing around with this mod a bit, and I really like it! The weapons have a nice punch to them, and the new enemy attacks really change up how you play the levels. Really impressive use of DEHACKED, and a shoo-in for the Machaward this year, if not one of the Gameplay Mod awards straight up. One minor quibble/incompatibility to report, however. While it is not, in fact, a level breaker by any means like the Arachnotron/Mancubus changes were, it is pretty silly to go through Valiant: Vaccinated Edition's 14 Angrier Archviles without the titular 14 archviles summoners coming after you throughout the level. They just end up standing there at the start; I guess their movement avoids linedefs. This was tested on prBoom+, complevel 11. The mod doesn't actually come with any new levels, outside of the generic MAP07 replacement. Just run it with whatever mapset you'd like; if you're using the drag-and-drop model of loading, just make sure you're dragging whatever mapset you want along with D4V.wad.
  9. I dropped out of this project previously due to burnout and RL commitments, but I'm feeling a bit refreshed and have more free time now, so I'd like to take another stab at it. If I have to choose a map slot, put me down for MAP12.

Rowdy Rudy II: POWERTRIP (Development Thread)

Eh, I figure if there's going to be any kind of DM component to this, that I'll just pull the old trick of making a second, DM focused map off to the sides and keep the regular map intact. I also kinda hope it doesn't come down to that, because boy am I not suited to making DM maps :P

Rowdy Rudy II: POWERTRIP (Development Thread)

I've always had a lot of trouble completing maps and getting them out the door, but something about this project is really sparking my creative juices. I'm going to take a stab at making something.
  12. I had a ton of fun playing the first episode. Hopefully, you can take everything you learned from creating that, and use it to make something even better!

    Music from GMOTA

Kegan just ripped the music files from various SNES games. If you open up the pk3, you'll find a text file marked Credits that will tell you everything you want to know.
  14. I haven't done these in a while (general mappers block combined with working on Saturdays while the session is going on), but I'll be doing a playtesting stream once the WAD is compiled.

The DWmegawad Club plays: Doom 404

I played through the first episode on Wednesday: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/318071889?t=00h08m31s I really liked it! All the levels so far are short and punchy, and don't overstay their welcome.
  21. I should be able to make the 20th, barring anything going wrong irl or something like that. As far as spooky themes go, I'll take a cue from the spookiest of the Doom games and suggest: Limited to the Doom 64 bestiary only (so no chaingunners, revenants, archviles or Spider Masterminds (maybe import nightmare imps and the Mother Demon, if that's the case?). A different theme I had in mind regarding weapons: Ballistic weapons only (no chainsaw, plasma gun, or BFG. Probably no berserk, either). It's a pity that we had the extreme light differential theme last month, since it'd go pretty well with a spooky theming as well.

The DWmegawad Club plays: Heroes' Tales

At this point, I am pretty damn committed to finishing this up, but damn, is it going to be a slog if this back half is any indication. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/318072840 Today's session went from part way through MAP21, to MAP27. Shadowman's maps really took a nosedive during this back half; the grind that the later portions of Hell's Maw puts you through is just miserable, and Hell's Atrium's start has far too much hitscanner RNG for my tastes. Onslaught, in comparison, feels much more fair and much better paced, but suffers a bit from "where-the-fuck-do-I-go-itis" in spots. The maps surrounding Shadowman's remaining entries were hit and miss; Citadel and Blood Lake were pleasant enough, and moderately challenging to boot, while Deuse Take It! turned out insufferable, and Hellsky felt a lot like the author's first map. I was planning to play through to the end so I wouldn't have to bump this thread once more, but I threw that out the window once I took a gander at Mount Doom's monster count. Thankfully, I'm fairly sure I can wrap this up by next week.

  25. Looks fine, outside of the presence of a backup file instead of a .txt file.
