    Doom skyboxes for GZDoom

    It looks alright but the thing is Doom's default skies were not meant for use as a skybox mainly because the technology wasn't possible yet. In those shots, really the standard texture in GZDoom looks pretty much the same except for the tops. Not hating, just saying Doom's default skies don't look much better as a skybox than they do as a plain texture.
  2. It's not Doom but play through or watch a longplay of Serious Sam TFE. You could get some sweet ideas from that game's design.

    My guess is Soulsphere essence or something like others have said. Would make sense because the health vials and the Soulsphere itself are both "artifacts" from Hell when Hell invaded Mars correct?

    You have to add the weapon WAD as a resource under game configurations. That should work, but I can't verify since I've never tried to use weapon mods in DB2, only textures.

    Doom 64 for Doom II

    Got good progress started on Dark Citadel. All the map geometry is brought over and all the single sided lines are fixed. Started texturing now, then comes making the map playable and then fixing Doom 64-isms to work with vanilla Doom.
  8. Once the final list with authors and names are there, I will finish those. I have basically squat on that map as other things have taken my time up and I couldn't figure out where I wanted to take the map so the slot is open (it was MAP20).

    It probably would have been eligible if you didn't ask this question first. Usually the only reason things like this become issues is because the issue is brought up in the first place. Personally I say make what you want and be proud. If idgames won't take it then host it somewhere else and be proud of your modifications.

  12. I had started a map in the MAP20 slot, but I have basically squat on it and I have a lot of other things going on right now. Feel free to take the slot joe, but make sure to pick a new name. I had included a CWILV graphic of the MAP20 I was making, so that will need to be changed.

  14. It would be so cool if this project finishes right before or after Andrew Hulshult finishes his Doom II soundtrack remake. I like his remakes the most, and new upgraded badass versions of the Doom II maps need a matching soundtrack.
  15. I'm sorry to say that due to having to work a lot this week and hitting serious mapper's block, I have basically nothing on my map apart from some basic areas. I hope to find some inspiration soon and get off my ass and come up with something. I might need another week. So sorry. Mapping is a pain sometimes if you get mapper's block. :(

    Annoying things about Doom editing

    Two things about DB2 that annoy me: 1) When splitting a linedef, it will change offsets of the sidedef textures, even if they aren't raised up yet or even textured, causing me to go and set them all back to 0,0. 2) Drawing a new sector or line will cause any nearby untextured sidedefs to be given the default texture automatically.

    I can say right away I'm loving the classic mapping style. I want to see more classic style megawads. I'm even making one myself if I can get off my lazy ass and get to work.

    Megaspheres: How do you use them?

    Thing is, this thread immediately goes in with the assumption that everyone who plays Doom is gud. Something like 40% zero damage, 40% death by mass immolation, 20% 2-3 blasts might instead be 5% zero damage, 65% death by mass immolation, and 30% 5 blasts. Sometimes people need some Megaspheres in those situations. As for balance, if you're gud enough to not need it and you know that, then good for you. If you did need it, then the map you're playing just became 50% less stressful.
  21. My next and final (for real this time) map is starting to come together. I know the theme I'm going for and have a MIDI picked out: The Ever Shrine Part 2 from 30-in-30 4. May post a screenshot tomorrow once I have something to show. This map should take a week or so to complete, if I have time to do it.
  22. Yes. The ones for the missing maps are in the WAD as CWILVxx (actually with the x's). I've also started work on MAP20: Anathema. This is a transition level, so I will be making it big enough to be considered a transitional level. Going to try something a bit different this time, so hopefully it won't suck.

  24. I agree with this ideology, to an extent. I believe maps should contain enough ammo so that you're able to use what guns you want most of the time, and not feel like you have to conserve everything and make every shot count. On the flip side, maps with ammo spammed at every next area is also bad since you never run out. Even slaughtermaps need that ammo balance to some extent, but should never be thin enough on ammo that you have to start using a Chaingun to take out Barons when there should be enough rockets and plasma to use them when you want.
  25. Only six? Huh. Maybe I will make one more even though I said I wouldn't. It probably wouldn't be as big as MAP25 (more like MAP03's size). Maybe for the MAP20 slot? In the mean time, bout to start getting the CWILVxx's ready.
