  1. If you play Garry's Mod then you have a strong chance that you heard of GMDoom, an addon that brings Doom 1 & 2 assets to the Source engine, but I wonder if anyone has tried FreeDoom assets in GMDoom itself if it was possible. If not one could try and make a modified version of GMDoom to bring FreeDoom assets to the Source engine, maybe call it "GMFreeDoom" or "FreeGMDoom" or something like that. I want to see if bring FreeDoom assets to the Source engine would be possible.
  2. Quoting myself here, but I wonder if sound effects from other operating systems released between the early-1980s and early to mid 1990s were used as sources for the sounds in Doom 1 & 2. One could search in the files of Windows 3.0 MME (Multimedia Extensions), Windows 3.1, OS/2 Warp 3, classic MacOS versions 1 through 7 and probably other Unix-based operating systems to find more leads for Doom 1 & 2's sound sources. Perhaps other early pre-IBM PC home computer sounds were used for Doom 1 & 2's sound sources as well.
  3. We all know that Bobby Prince utilized a lot of stock sound effects for Doom, most of which are from the sound libraries from Sound Ideas. However, every source can't be traced for all the sound effects in Doom & Doom II, and their sources are probably lost to time, unless you can find any out of print Sound Ideas libraries on CD-ROMs containing higher quality versions of these sound effects, with most of them not being available on Internet Archive and other abandonware sites. So, it's possible that most of the stock sound effects used for Doom's audio files are no longer available for licensing, unless your able to track down older CD-ROMs from Sound Ideas on either eBay or Amazon. It's kind of similar to how many of the stock photos from Corbis, Photodisc & Getty Images used as the basis for the desktop wallpapers for Windows 2000 until Windows 10 aren't available for licensing anymore.

The Postal poster from the recent Postal Fudge Pack - Re-Packed & Extra Fudged collection on PC BD-ROM making it the only PC game available on Blu-ray Disc. I just can't get enough of the series.
  6. Perhaps looking into the Authentic Sound Effects and Premiere Edition sound libraries could bring more clues to most of the sources for Doom's sound effects.
  7. I've been recently working on a remake of an old Half-Life 1 mod called BoomeNShtein3D from 2010 made by Bymer into a five level WAD for Doom II. It also includes a couple of custom textures included including a couple unused ones, And the music is replaced with a few tracks from Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny. Here's a GameBanana link to my WAD file: https://gamebanana.com/mods/528011 What do any of you think about this remake PWAD? Thought & comments are appreciated.

Feels more like "16-bit Drummer" as it's just 16-bit music and sound effects poorly compressed onto Sega Genesis/Mega Drive

Your PFP reminds me of that.

I've never played that game but I can see the similarities. Also my pfp is supposed to be some kind of cat-panda hybrid (which I rendered using a 90s version of 3ds max)

The use of the demon sprites reminds me of the top graphic used in Doom95's launcher.
  14. Wanted to bump this up, but here are a few more J2ME FPS games that I've found thanks to the efforts of the developers behind the Kahvibreak database. These games that I've found out recently are as follows: Wanted to get these titles out of the way, as I've only heard of the Kahvibreak preservation project recently.
  15. I wanted to make a list of obscure FPS games released on the mobile BREW, J2ME, ExEn, Palm OS, Symbian, Windows Mobile and other pre-iOS and pre-Android mobile platforms, especially the ones with unique sprites and textures. Also included are a few FPS related stuff thrown in as well (if I can find any). Of course many of these games are rip-offs of existing franchises like Call of Duty, Doom or Wolfenstein 3D for that matter, but given that it was easy to replicate those, it's not much of a hassle. Of course many of these are bootleg games and are not official by any means, but it doesn't matter really. Alot of these games are in Russian, which means that it would be difficult to translate to another language. Here's a list of these games that I could find the most interesting, Complete with either gameplay footage or screenshots: These are some of the pre-iOS and pre-Android mobile FPS games that I could find that have unique weapon sprites. Hopefully these weapon sprites from those games can be useful for making sprites for weapons in any Doom mod. If you know of any other pre-iOS and pre-Android mobile FPS games that I missed, let me know.

  18. Since Apple has been trying hard to migrate both iOS (since iOS 11) and macOS (starting with 10.15 this year) from 32-bit to 64-bit exclusivity in recent years, is anyone really interested in preserving the following Freedoom-based iOS and macOS games by General Arcade and MOALAB? (not counting source ports or the main Freedoom Iwad files available at https://freedoom.github.io) Here is a full list of these Freedoom/Doom Classic based games: Doomsday: Hellraiser Doomsday II: Legions of Hell Doomsday III: Base Ganymede Hell on Earth Lite Doom's Knight Doomed Heretic Doomed Freedom Bastards (by Octavian Stirbei) Those are the games that I know of, if your able to archive & preserve the Iwads from those games I would be appreciated.

The Postopia games: an old set of games released in the 2000s that were available between 2001 and 2011, which were tie-ins to Post Cereals' the current products of the 2000s. The website shut down in 2011 and replaced with PebblesPlay which didn't include the games there once on Postopia. Only a handful of games from the old Postopia website survive.
