"What Lies Beneath" Blood mod promises to be fun
ReX replied to Slipgate Tourist's topic in Everything Else
Blood, despite its periodic bugginess, is one of my favorite games of that generation of games. The atmosphere was unmatched. -
I must say that this site is phenomenal, in a "Where's Waldo" + cultural references sort of way. The number of popular culture references is mind-boggling! As for DooM, what takes the cake is the elevator where the revenant appears to be uttering a cry for help to be released. (Plus the IDKFA & IDDQD references.) Oh, plus the obscure "No BFG" sign in the Scooby Doo room.

You, sir, have a way with words. That's a hilarious mental image! As for itchy skin, that usually goes away after a few days of facial hair growth.

@Majin: That is fantastic artwork! Where's it from? As for the government(s) lying, that can't be news to you. But your hypothesis is clever, nonetheless.

I'm currently watching Lucifer on NetFlix. It's actually quite enjoyable, if somewhat predictable at times. Before that I watched the first 2 seasons of Evil on NetFlix and am awaiting the other seasons. Before that I watched the first 2 seasons of Resident Alien on NetFlix and am awaiting Season 3.

@P_A_Z: I was only joking about the "goat" part. Your vocabulary is just fine.

I misread this thread's discussion subject as: "How long is your goat?" and it, naturally, peaked my curiosity. Now I see you weren't talking about a farm animal at all. As for beards, I was never able to grow my beard out more than a few centimeters. At some point I decided to stick with mustaches, which currently is more a "five-o-clock shadow" than a proper one.

Who is the most horribly misunderstood character in fiction? I'll start

Ha, ha! Well played, @OniriA -

Sauron (Mairon) was not a misunderstood character. JRR Tolkien made him out to be (or to have become) a truly evil character, following closely in the footsteps of his equally monstrous master, Morgoth (Melkor). [Both characters, notably, were once noble beings.] One can argue that the single-minded pursuit of power does not make one "evil", but Sauron was ruthless and wantonly destructive. So, no, in my opinion Sauron was not misunderstood. But Boromir, on the other hand, might have been construed to be misunderstood. If not for his sacrifice in the service of Merry & Pippin, he might have gone down in the history of fictional characters as a villain. -

Rorschach was inherently a sociopathic (maybe even psychopathic) person. But Alan Moore did give him a terrific backstory that made him a sympathetic character. Other crazy and dangerous characters in Watchmen: The comedian, Ozymandias (Adrian Veidt), and Doctor Manhattan (Jonathan Osterman). The movie sucked, by the way. As do all movies made from Alan Moore comics (the worst of which was From Hell). -
"I stood on a ridge and shunned religion, Thinking that the world was mine. I made my break and a big mistake, Stealing when I should have been buying."

A few months ago I switched from Red Dead Redemption 2 to Red Dead Online. I really enjoy the exploration and the NPC action. However, when it comes to Person-on-Person (aka Deathmatch), I really suck. That's mainly because, despite searching the internets, I haven't figured out a way to strafe. This makes me a sitting duck against human players.

@PsychoGoatee & @Biodegradable: Pick up anything by Ed Brubaker and you won't be disappointed, particularly his noir series, such as Criminal, Incognito, Fatale, The Fade Out, and Kill or Be Killed.

Years and years ago I tried reading Unfinished Tales of NĂºmenor and Middle-earth, but a lot of the writing was just too academic for me and I gave up. (Chris Tolkien did an admirable job of curating and editing his father's work, but the underlying material was just too arcane to be enjoyable.) Speaking of arcane, it takes a person with patience and perseverance to get past the first 50 pages or so of The Silmarillion, an otherwise-brilliant work of story-telling.

The Legend of Tarzan (Christoph Waltz steals the show. As usual.)

The Rubberband Man

Also check out B.P.R.D. The artwork is consistent with Mignola's (as a lot of the art is by other artists) and many of the stories are by Mignola.

Star Wars: Darth Vader I must say that Disney/Marvel know how to make money. Each volume is just 20, count 'em, 20 pages long. The entire 6 volume "series" could have been published as a single f*ckin' book.

Pink Floyd: Echoes

Porco Rosso An offbeat and strange (but enjoyable) movie by (who else) Hayao Miyazaki.

Off Topic: For the old timers in this group, Canyon de Chelly is where a significant portion of the iconic Western, Mackenna's Gold, was filmed. It featured Gregory Peck, Omar Sharif, and Telly Savalas, three titans of action movies of that era.

IPA beer and ahi tuna poke bowl at a brewery. (Expensive sh*t, so I'm glad I don't do this all the time.)

Although I have some familiarity with firearms, I am not a weapons purist. Therefore, I don't even pay attention to discrepancies. Moreover, so many games have futuristic, sci-fi weapons that "realism" is not even a thing. But I understand what you're asking. Another reason for game developers to deviate from "realism" is that without that deviation it might make the use of a weapon unwieldy, or downright frustrating to use.
