MIDI Editing, without the cables and keyboard
jplstatic replied to jplstatic's topic in Doom Editing
well if I wait until after christmas time brokeness I don't think paying will be a problem. Piano roll is what it's called that I'm looking for... I recently after posting this found and bookmarked a music tool database I'll share when I'm on my other computer that more or less holds every music tool there is I think. -

oh my fault, click 'personal website' then 'music archive' for the freebies, mostly under 'early recordings' -

I've probably asked this before years ago but times change and I didn't honestly get around to going forth with the midi creations when I found I could render waves from synapse audio orion. What worried me about that was the size of the massive amount of mp3s I wanted to include in a pk3 and I'd rather have just a general patch wad file. So I'm back to square one with hundreds of nice tracks but none of them will help with my doom mod (if anyone is interested in those, check out http://www.jerrylehr.com if you want some to use in yours and make things bulky) Anyways the question: is there software I can use to create midis simply much like orion makes notes that doesn't require me to get a new cable for my midi controller?

I have a line-up of MP3-roms I'm putting out, and I had a question. One of them is the "Visions of Loki" soundtrack. I put a lot of work into the soundtrack and wanted to see if people that liked my other releases wanted it, but I also wanted to include the MOD I was working on when it was finished... Since DOOM II's source code is now public domain, is it legal to release DOOM2.WAD publically? like can I make it easier on those that don't own it anymore and put out a copy of my MP3 soundtrack with the MOD actually included AND have it play directly from the disc without them having to own DOOM II anymore or search through old stuff to find it?

jerrylehr.com some of it i don't like but its there for archive purposes. a lot of it i did in college. i'm working on switching the site over to having a menu on the right side so it's weird right now. some of the music is on the menu, others are on the page when you scroll down. none of my new stuff is on there. none of it is evil though, but i can do evil

I'm not sure if I want to go through with it though. My last wad got only bad reviews. I spent a few years on it off and on. It was over a decade ago though. Still I haven't done much in the past few years doomwise so I'm not sure if I could really please the doomworld masses. It would be kickass if 9 different people each did a circle. I'd contribute mp3 music. I'm really good at that I've heard from everyone.

oh well, i had a simon gift card worth $50 with nothing to spend it on. it was only 99 cents

I think a translation would be better. I downloaded the entire divine comedy for 99 cents and its not at all what I thought it'd be. Its just an unrhyming poem. I haven't found much that I could make into doom levels so far. I'll keep reading if I get keep myself doing it. I always had issues reading.

has anyone read it? Are there actually descriptions?
-
I've never read the book. I do plan on buying it through amazon but from what I've read of it on wikipedia there doesn't seem to be descriptions of scenery or anything, just the titles and who resides there. I would probably just use the names for the levels and make my own hell.

Does anyone know of any doom megawad made to be like dante's inferno, or even the whole divine comedy trilogy? I was thinking of doing it but there's already a commercial game made after it and if it's already made for doom I wouldn't want to waste my time. But I've always wanted to make pure hell levels and if I used dante's inferno I'd have a reason. Then I could make Purgatorio and Paradiso and make all heaven levels where hellspawn had invaded heaven or something. or I could make a bunch of angel sprites and you could for some reason kill angels. That would appease satanists I guess, but that would be kind of lame for a game idea. Just the inferno would be cool. The nine circles of hell spread out over multiple levels. Maybe a hub for each circle with sublevels. Then I could get an artist to make satan to replace the cyberdemon, if that hasn't already been done. If so I could just ask permission to use it. But yeah, anyone ever done this before? I want to try to make the scariest wad ever. A lot of people hated the wad I made in 99 and I quit for a while but I don't do drugs or hang out with idiots anymore so I'm able to make some really good ellaborate levels that aren't too hard (that was one complaint), but one quality I was told is that they were scary as hell. I would make this wad scary as hell too, because it would be hell.

I like how I changed what I wanted halfway through the post. First I wanted to make quake music then I wanted to make midi music. I guess if there are still going to be replies to this post I'm going to stick with quake sounding music. MP3s are still small and most people have high speed these days. It's kind of iffy though because doom is such an old game and we're in a nastalgia era, so its hard to say whether people have gotten high speed connections or they're resorting to doom because of its lofiness. Whenever I started making soundtracks for doom I started with MP3 right off. I liked the sound I got but still like I said am looking to make quake sounding soundtracks. I'm interested mainly in plugins that make neat sounds, that even trent reznor would be jealous of. That's probably going to be a hard hunt to make seeing as how whenever I looked in his digizine every page had a different software demo to try that he has used.
