    Doom64EX 2.3 Feedback Thread

Where is this Xbox 360 controller support? I was playing TNT2 on ZDoom with it fine, but Doom 64 EX doesnt seem to have support for controllers in the options. Couldnt map any buttons either.

Where have I heard that MIDI!?

Does anyone find it amusing when they recognise a seemingly random midi track in a wad? Yesterday I had to stop all gameplay because a background tune suddenly felt too familiar...turned out to be a midi-ised Magmoor Caverns from Metroid Prime (I love that theme). In the same wad I also heard something from Castlevania, Bloody Tears iirc. Another wad (A high profile one!) used the final boss music from Final Fantasy VI, and it completely killed the feel of the level. I prefer midis to be nothing ive heard before from another non-Doom engine game, what about you?
  4. Okay, I just completed the third demo level. That was insanely long and very confusing. An Archvile is placed in a cage in one area where he cannot fight back at all, that might need an edit. In the area where the barbed wire fence has a hole leading to armour and medikits, near the hole is a piece of unbroken fence you can walk through, thats definitely a bug. The secrets are very well hidden, I only obtained three of the seven, also missed a monster and an item. One of the secrets must be the backpack on a ledge with Revenants and Chaingunners near the cage the near-helpless Archvile is in. The others I have no clue about. The dark corridors that lower into a dark pit filled with monsters (including an Archvile) was the highlight of the map, it has a great lead-up to it that plays on your sense of dread. The new textures were nice too. I think I'll leave the secret finding for the full release and move on to the last map. 400 monsters, attacked from all sides right by the start? Hoo boy, this ones going to be difficult.
  5. Oh, just my long feedback posts drowning your request. It was resolved while I was typing that anyway, so its all good.
  6. The invisibility secret, I kept lowering the portal first, after seeing a tint bit of switch earlier and wondering if I hallucinated. Maybe the switch could be raised a very tiny bit more? Its devious, I'll give the designer that. Yeah, it was the red key >_> Im mixing things up by posting mid-level while Doomed up, sorry :p I had to load an earlier save and chainsaw everything in the imp/demon/lost soul room before the waste pools open up just to have enough ammo for that ambush. Theres just TOO many monsters, I got pinned down and died far too quickly. About that room, could you consider raising a step to get out the way you came in after its all done with? Maybe the same switch that lowers the rifle. Its annoying to have to loop around to the plasma rifle tower everytime. How on earth do you get that automap? (nevermind, as I typed this my brother came in and pointed it out. I feel stupid) The soulsphere secret was random, no idea what opened that room up. Also, I found a minor bug. The courtyard by the start, one of the walls doesnt show up on the automap. The highlight of this map is definitely the dark corridors, where your first priority is finding that zombie that woke up in the distance. I'd give it a B+ Now onto map 3, ie the barbed wire map. Sorry if im getting in the way with my posts, Pottus
  7. Whoops, I meant invisibility sphere. Working on map 2. Starts off so-so (yellow key THAT fast?) but then it shows off real good lighting use. It even has bits that remind me of Habitat! Ammo seems REALLY scarce, but then again I doubt your supposed to be continuing from map 1 (about that, I also PMed you some additional details) The blue key room killed me because HOLY CRAP AMBUSH *millions of zombies and demons with practically no ammo left*. Im playing on UV with a Xbox 360 controller on ZDoom btw, if this is relevant to anything.

Things about Doom you just found out

Just found out ZDoom now supports my surround sound headphones. Everything is now infinitely better.

    Zdoom controller issue

For some reason I cant use the triggers together. I have it set up close to the PS3 Doom Classic Complete controls, with LT being Run and RT being shoot. The issue is that I cannot shoot while firing. Anyway to fix this? Another thing, is there any way to map non-gameplay keys to the controller? I want to be able to press Start to bring up the main menu for example, and possibly assign quicksave/quickload to other buttons. My computer screen is cracked, so I have it hooked up to my TV, having to get up to save or pause is a pain.. EDIT: Forgot to mention, its an Xbox 360 controller with the Wireless Receiver
  10. Conversely if you are going for a pit/opposite of "mountain" feel, theres lots of names to use instead of chasm. Like say, caldera, the crater left when a volcano blows itself up completely. Or abyss, often used in conjuction with Hell. Anyway, Ive started on that demo properly. Map01 is extremely good, truly felt like a TNT map. The health seems a bit scarce on UV though. The Soulsphere secret I cant figure out, aside from pressing use on top of the wall to trigger the buried switch. The exit room is an awesome reference, well done on that. I IDMUSed Last Call's theme for the whole map, naturally.

Where have I heard that MIDI!?

Would it be wrong to say that I thoroughly enjoy Megadeath's Hangar 18 JUST because it sounds so much like Doom?
  12. How will Go 2 It work with the PSX Doom monster limitations? Or will this one be a special exception? Every demon/spectre in it should be a nightmare spectre imho.

Post your Doom picture! [post in Part 2 instead]

My computer broke a long time ago (power adapters overheated to the point the socket in the laptop warped, it overheat-crashed playing 3D games, and the lid itself cracked open by the hinge), hence why I was absent for so long. Then I got to use my mum's new laptop...until this happened to it. I have the worst computer luck. Dont worry Kyka, I'll test those maps on my TV via HDMI cables, I wont miss details hidden behind liquid crystal :p EDIT: And no, that ISN'T TNT2 (Anyone recognise it?). That demo's contents arent being spilled to anyone outside this house :p

Where have I heard that MIDI!?

Its even weirder in reverse. I absolutely loved a track from Agent Spork's Simplicity, and would often load the wad JUST to IDMUS it. Then I bought Duke Nukem 3D on XBLA and found out it was a track from Episode 2...I was rather floored.
  15. BaronofStuff, you clearly need to work on a bigger map. Youve really got the PSX look down, im curious how you'll do with a larger area.

    favorite multiplayer maps?

I always loved Facing Worlds from Unreal Tournament. Duke Nukem Forever's Doom map should be number 1 in history for this board though
  17. Doom's artwork is identical between PAL and NTSC releases actually, its more the style of the case itself. But aside from that, many NTSC games had really horrific artwork changes compared to PAL/Japan. But thats not the point I was making, more the design of the case itself. PAL cases were much sturdier and very uniform in design, and instead of "Greatest Hits" we had "Platinum", where the black was replaced with silver. The one downside to Platinum was the disc itself lost the artwork and was all silver with text :/
  18. American ps1 games look horrible in comparison to PAL ones :/
  19. Nostalgia Drive looks damn good, Xaser I humbly request that in any official TNT3 release, that that is referenced somewhere in it. Followed by an equally insane ad for the "sequel" I made up for Xaser :p And on the vanilla bit, ive always enjoyed those more than port specific stuff. Ive even gone back to software renderers these days to better appreciate them.

Where do you keep your IWADs?

I copy the list to each, because theres no easy way to get them to all read from one directory. Doomsday was great at this, you selected where the IWADs were before playing. Theres another problem now though, pretty much everything except ZDoom/GZDoom only EVER wants to play Doom 2! Why cant things be user friendly?
  22. I suggest keeping references to Wolfenstein in the level names. As both were from Episode 1 of Wolfenstein 3D...how about "The Castle" for Wolfenstein and "Escape" for Grosse? (I beleive E1 was Escape from Castle Wolfenstein) The Castle would also go well with the other secret levels like The Marshes and The Mansion EDIT: I also really like Grosse that way. Seems a bit small though.

The Ultimate DOOM: No End In Sight - Released

It was more like if there was one more level in each episode, what would he have made, and he gave pretty detailed descriptions for each. Biosphere for E1, Receiving Station for E2, and Sheol's Spiraling Descent for E3. I know Xaser did the second, but the other two arent in the final release. I found it poor taste to reach out to one of the creators of the game, whose levels are very famous and well-loved, and then fight and squabble over them (Biosphere). Dont know what happened to the E3 one. Still havent played the completed product due to the bad taste it leaves when I remember it, but I'll get around to it.

The Ultimate DOOM: No End In Sight - Released

Its depressing that the maps Romero suggested apparantly didnt end up in the main project. I found that kind of insulting. But at least some live on here.
