  1. This isn't my first video about Doom, but I thought it would be neat to just share it here! https://youtu.be/wKFUgYRI46s There's some stuff I probably got wrong or I probably just sound like an idiot in this here so any feedback and correction is appreciated!!!

What were the first three PWADs you downloaded?

If I can remember correctly, it was Going Down, FORTRESS.WAD (the map that inspired Team Fortress, of which I was a huge fan of at the time) and that one Seinfeld map.

    Fav shooter before 2000?

I'd honestly say either Quake 1, Quake 3, UT99, or Half-Life. If I had to choose between any, HL would be my pick. Game never gets old (except for like one or two chapters).

    Opinions on Windows 11

I upgraded my laptop that I use for school and things that I don't wanna use my main PC for. It's fine at best, but I don't want to upgrade my main PC until months to years down the line. It feels like Windows 10 with some character and pizazz added, but there are some things that I don't like about it, such as the inability to select a specific battery saver option (better battery -> better preformance) in the battery menu. Instead of one menu for battery, one for volume, and one for wifi settings, it's all lumped together awkwardly in a single menu like it's a tablet or whatever. Speaking of which, it feels tailor made for tablets and 2 in 1 devices, which my laptop is a 2 in 1 but it's incredibly rare if I ever use the touchscreen. I didn't like the new Start menu, either. Got wayyyy too in the way of my muscle memory from using previous versions of Windows. It looks tacky and ugly. Least favorite part of the new version though, is the fact that the reason I was excited for the OS in the first place... isn't there, at least right now. Task View on Win11 has new customization options, but those only amount to changing the wallpaper and the name of the desktop. Taskbar icons stay the same, as well as desktop icons for whatever reason. At the moment, it's not too great, but I bet in a few years it'll become an OS that I simply just tolerate like Win10.

    Your opinion on Twitter?

I hate Twitter but it's a website I can't get enough of. I just browse on a private account and use a public account whenever I feel like posting something to it.
  7. When I first started playing (on the Steam DOSBox version), I didn't realize that you had to press the number keys to switch weapons, so I usually just played with whatever weapon I got last. Nowadays though, using the number keys to switch weapons is pretty much instinct to me.

What is your favorite classic Doom Game?

The Ultimate Doom is probably the best. While it does get a little flat in Inferno, that's pretty much all classic id games in their third episode. I feel that while Doom 1's highs are lower than Doom 2's, it's lows are much much higher than 2's in my opinion. While the design is a little closed in, I feel like the level design is somewhat better than Doom 2's. The soundtrack is also my favorite of them all. Also, Thy Flesh Consumed is a neat little episode.

Why are so many indie games retro-styled?

CRT filters should be optional everywhere. I'd love to play the Quake 64 addon in the Nightdive Quake, but it has a stupid CRT filter that you can't turn off, which turns me off. And just what you said, CRTs look fantastic, but people get them wrong all the time and instead of making it look like an actual CRT, it's usually just a lower-res image with curved edges and tiny black lines covering the screen.

Why are so many indie games retro-styled?

I believe the retro-style phenomenon is a mixture of an appreciation for the past, as well as the fact that retro-style games are generally easier and cheaper to develop. Games like Cave Story, Minecraft, etc. really paved way for the retro style indie genre. Though I do appreciate non-retro style indie games a little more, that doesn't mean all retro style games are uninspired, and vice versa. I think though that some games have no more merit than "haha retro style", I think the best retro style games are the ones where it really feels like you're playing an older title, where the developers take into account the technical limitations from that time period.

    New around here? Introduce Yourself!

i've been on this site for almost a year now, i've just never posted. i'm StaticSquidd, i've been playing Doom since 2019 (so i'm somewhat of a newbie lol), and at the moment, Doom is my favorite game series. i also make videos on YouTube, and although they aren't the greatest, I made videos about Doom 1 and 2. the Doom community is probably the most welcoming and nicest community i have seen, surprisingly for a game like it. i do hope to be more active here as the days go on.
