Help Loop Properly

Question

How to make a sky in a loop. I want to improve it because it looks very bad.

The image loses a lot of definition compared to how I made the sky D':

The only thing I could think of to improve it as a Doom sky would be to make all the stars single pixels of varying brightness so they won't become smeared out in-game, and maybe make the planets about half the size.

I assume that image is made of four 256x256 patches. How about making that four separate 256x256 images and adding 2 more with just stars for the top and bottom and turning those into a proper OpenGL 3D sky box? I do not understand why you say it looks bad. It looks really good in that screenshot.
