New Weapons for Wide Screen?

Is there a way to create new weapon sprites that do not cut off in wide screen mode, or rather go all the way to the edge, say like with Odamex?

Define "widescreen". In a general sense the only way to ensure that player weapon sprites do not appear to be "cut off" is to have the graphics finish cleanly (like the DOOM pistol but offset as you like).

If one simply draws the weapon sprite assuming an arbitrary fixed screen/window width, with the graphic still cut off, then this problem remains unsolved (will "break" when an even wider screen/window is used).
