RestlessRodent Posted October 1, 2015 rampancy said:well with consoles all being powered by amd, and games being designed around consoles, it would make sense that direct3d is going to be the target in the foreseeable future, right? although doesnt amd have their own api now? mantle? or am i way off base. If anything it would be OpenGL or Vulkan. Vulkan is heavily Mantle inspired. However Microsoft is stuck in their own box, so only Direct3D for them. However, consoles still have rather proprietary graphical interfaces. 0 Share this post Link to post
rampancy Posted October 2, 2015 i see. well thats cool to know. its surprising since amd/ati has never had great opengl support. it seems counter intuitive. 0 Share this post Link to post
Graf Zahl Posted October 2, 2015 That's more because OpenGL is a mess. The API has had some really cancerous growth over the years and is overly complicated and hard to implement. My hope is that Vulkan will prompt a platform independent GL implementation on top of the newer, much closer to the hardware API. That could solve a lot of problems because there's far less variation in driver support. 0 Share this post Link to post
