What kinds of chill music do you chill to?

Masayoshi Takanaka, CASIOPEA, Cortex, and Bjork are some specific bands/musicians that I find relaxing. I also relax to vaporwave and some jazz fusion. I also found this song recently that's pretty relaxing, especially if you're into jazz or lofi.

what are you working on? I wanna see your wads.

Update: I've nearly made the entire first area of the mall, complete with shops. I was originally going to use real shops in the map, partly because I thought it was funny and partly to add to realism, but decided not to as it would seem a bit out of place to have all these fake supermarkets and then a random Tesco in the middle of it all. So I just made up names or took them from films (Quick Stop Groceries is from Clerks, Hallowed Grounds is from Dawn of the Dead (2004)). I also changed the colours of the Quick Stop Groceries in particular because there was no way I was going to redo all those textures inside the supermarket. Also, if it wasn't clear already from me mentioning Tesco, some of the shops are complete rips of actual ones in the UK: I changed HMV to BFG and the Quick Stop Groceries was originally going to be a Tesco Metro. The electronics/TV shop isn't really a parody of anything, I just wanted to make it seem similar to zombie apocalypse films that have TVs on showing news reports or other interviews. Next is probably the 2nd area of the mall and maybe expanding the plaza area, as it is way too small in comparison to other areas of the map.
  3. I usually like playing some fighting games just to have fun, but actually getting into the games in terms of learning the moves and button combos is too much of a pain to bother. That isn't to say I don't enjoy them, I've spent way too much time playing Tekken and Soulcalibur, but a lot of the time learning the game doesn't have that much of a payoff for me, as I just prefer to mess around in the arcade or single-player modes. Although, I would say that if you're struggling to get into fighting games, maybe try out practice/arcade mode where you can learn the game without playing against an actual person. At least then you might feel more confident in your skills and enjoy the game more as a result.

How Do You Name Your Game Saves?

I usually manually save at the beginning of each map, and so just name it the name of the wad followed by "map02", "map03" or whichever map I'm playing at that point.

What is your favorite doom episode?

Knee Deep in the Dead. How could it not be?

What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. I played Uncharted 4 when it came out and meant to play Lost Legacy but only got about 1-2 hours in before I stopped. I found the Uncharted: Legacy Collection on PS Plus a few days ago and decided to download it. So far, the game is pretty good, like any Uncharted game really.

    unpopular retro opinions

Most media about the history of videogames (especially in the 80s and 90s) is extremely Americanized, and the history of the videogame market there. I've seen some media talking about the history of videogames with small sections about the impact of early PCs in Europe, but that's it. It's boring hearing for the thousandth time about how the 1983 videogame crash destroyed videogames/arcades and how Nintendo "rebuilt" the industry by releasing the NES without any mention of how most of that never happened in Europe because of the popularity of PCs over home consoles. I know that this is probably just because Europe is made up of so many countries that it would be impossible to talk about the videogame industry in each country, but some other perspectives on the history of videogames would be way better than hearing the same story repeated in every book and video.

What sprite editor do you recommend?

Aseprite definitely. It has a frame/animation editor so you can see how the sprite will work without the hassle of doing it all in Paint. You can also use custom palettes and ones associated with videogame consoles (NES, Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, any 8/16-bit console/PC) so if you're sticking to the Doom palette it's relatively easy to do.

    Post your Doom textures!

Here's a load of TV news screens showing various news screens and other programmes. Here's how they look in my map: I've also made a load of other custom textures for shops and things, as my map is set in a shopping mall, but these are the ones I had the most fun making so far.

    What are you currently reading?

I'm also reading Strong Female Character by Fern Brady, but couldn't find a good enough image of the cover.

    Most recent movie you saw

The Island. It's the first and only Michael Bay film I will probably ever watch. The first half of the film is pretty good, with the sci-fi setting being pretty immersive and compelling. The second half was a bit boring, with the endless chase sequences (that go on for basically an hour straight) tiring me out. I've heard that Michael Bay films are just big explosions, chase sequences and product placement so I can hardly say I'm surprised, but a bit disappointed that he didn't stick more to the sci-fi setting at the start.

What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

I have Days Gone but haven't tried it out yet. All the clips I've seen of it are of someone driving away from hordes of zombies on a motorbike. Seems kind of fun though.

What stresses you out about being a mapper?

I always struggle to finish projects I start, so my main thing is not being able to finish maps that I start. I also worry a bit about coming up with original ideas for maps, as a lot of the maps I've made are inspired by other games or are straight rip-offs of films I've seen.

What Video Game Are You Currently Playing?

I've been making my way through my Steam Library and have been playing Dead Rising a fair amount. I've also been playing a few 3 minute rounds of Crazy Taxi whenever I'm bored.

Do You Own a Device Capable of Playing Audio CDs?

I have a small collection of CDs but mainly use a DVD/CD drive to put them on iTunes or rip them to mp3s. I also have my old iPod, but I mainly use that for listening to game soundtracks not on Spotify.
