The Unholy Trinity

About This File

A reasonable representation of Trinity College, Cambridge. "Oh no, not again," I hear you cry. "Some lamers' first WAD. Prob'ly got a cyber in there." But wait! Read on. Much cannon fodder. Many new graphics. Cool bits. Guaranteed entertainment or your money back (see below for terms and conditions of this offer). And NO cyberdemon! Well... oh, never mind. Although designed for single player, has multiplayer weapons and starts, and large, well interconnected areas. Version 2 fixes a bug and some ugly bits.

When you first start the level, you drop your jaw to the textures that lay before you. Only, later you realize it's very repetitive and some textures are very questionable. The action is decent throughout the level. It's not too hard, yet you find yourself wanting more. I turned off my speakers as well to rid myself of hearing 45-60 seconds of Bach replaying. For being as old as it is though, it's a successful level. --3/5 Max Sterbenc

The only real problem I have with this map is that the keys are located behind invisible walls that barely look like doors even in high resolution ports. Why the authors didn't use a transparent gate texture is beyond me. Aside from that, there's nothing I could say that hasn't been said 73 times prior to this. 5/5

Pretty good! I've never visited the place myself, but it looks great! The main problems are the new textures. If there's a wall with the new wood/skull texture, it has a tutti fruiti effect. It's quite challenging, too. Great!

Amazing. And if you find the architecture and appearance "questionable", blame Sir Christopher Wren and the other guys who built Trinity College!

This is the best texturing I've ever seen for a Doom WAD. Even better than a lot of the official textures in vanilla Doom. It really complements the architecture, which is outstanding on a technical level. The custom music is very well-made. Not great, but impressive. It's a lot of fun just exploring the map and seeing what's what. It's sad to think that a map like this would never fly in modern times, not since the Columbine massacre and rumors that Ed Harris recreated his own university in the game.

A very historic wad worth checking out - it'll take you back to the past. Let this sink in as of 2014: it's two decades old now!

A damn good map considering its age. Wouldn't get this 5/5 if it were made recently though.

Charming. Good monster-bashing action, set to Bach.

There are some texture screwups when playing this in Ultimate Doom. You can work around them by playing with the 1.9 registered IWAD instead of 1.9 ultimate. If you only have Ultimate Doom, you can downgrade using Lee Killough's downgrade patch (downgrd.zip) and upgrading back up to 1.9 with the official upgrade patches.

Awesome level. If you don't like it that's probably because you weren't playing Doom maps in 1995... --- 5/5

This is like the Amalgoom project 20 years before it ever came to be. Amazing little map.

A fun idea, a fun execution, and even more fun gameplay. Wonderful. A must play.

Great WAD, solidly nails that fantasy castle crawling feeling, not too rough on the player nor overly stingy/generous on supplies, encourages good use of items, plenty of navigation and switch puzzles as is apt for Heretic, but also lets loose with a little slaughter.   Some areas could use slightly brighter lighting, and sometimes the next switch or door isn't signalled too well, but overall a fun and feisty fantasy fight fest.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.
