DESCRIPTION

Had enough SSG dueling for the past 30 years? Want to throw weapon balance completely out the window? You want a bunch of goofy unrelated references and memes thrown in?

 

Welcome to the Weapon Asylum, a chaotic weapon randomizer mod for Zandronum!

 

Intended for deathmatch, all players will spawn with 2 (sometimes 3) completely random weapons that you will use against your enemies. Use them however you can. You get completely new weapons every time you respawn.

 

Slot 1 is for melee/close range weapons.

Slot 2 is... something!

Slot 3 is primarily meant for one-time use or novelty weapons.

 

You can play this with nearly ANY(full support not guaranteed) map set. Whether it be with the original Doom IWADS, some cool legendary deathmatch pack from the 90's, or even our very own map set(not yet released) created solely for this mod, the ride will never end..

* We didn't change their behavior or anything like that, but we made some backend work happen so that they should be slightly better to play with. They are still very very stupid.

THE FUTURE

That's right, we're not done yet! Unfortunately because of how slow I am when it comes to making stuff, all the stuff we wanted to make isn't all there yet. We plan on releasing a full on original map pack for this mod. Not only that, we do plan on adding more weapons and as much stupid shit we possibly can. Take a look at what we got cooking already below:

FAQ:

Q: How do I set up an Infection game?

A: Set the gamemode to "Teamgame (ACS)" in the Skirmish menu or use the console variable "teamgame". Don't worry about setting any of the scores, it is set automatically. However, to set the infection timer, use the CVar "WA_InfectionTimer" or "Infection Timer" from the "WA Options" menu.

 

Q: Why does my custom skin have an invisible frame/different sprites?

A: For a skin to be "fully" supported, you will need to have frame X (the chair sitting sprite) accounted for otherwise it will be invisible. As for different sprites appearing: In some cases, a unique skin is applied to the player depending on the weapon equipped.

 

Q: I loaded Weapon Asylum with a map set with custom weapons and said weapons still appear! How do I fix it?

A: It will require a manual patch for said weapons to be removed from spawning. We have one already for the Skulltag maps, download is right below the main download button.

 

Q: Why does the weapon text go away sometimes on custom maps that print text on the screen?

A: Said text might just have the same message ID(s) as ours, duel40's map startup text can do this because it shares the same ID, for example. If it annoys you, you can always enable the "Disable Weapon Text" option in the Weapon Asylum Options menu.

 

Q: Why is the weapon text so small?

A: Enable text scaling in the options menu by going into HUD Options -> Message Options -> Text Scaling.

 

Q: Can I load this with [completely different gameplay mod]?

A: Probably not.

170+ death sounds? Rookie numbers! :P
But honestly a really fun and wacky mod! Tested it with the Eon Collection mapset in deathmatch, and I can certainly see what particular deathmatch mod may have given you part of the inspiration to make this. ;)

Hey guys, just released Weapon Asylum 1.1 in time for the upcoming event.

Download link will also be updated on the OP.

 

CHANGELOG:

  • Fixed "Kills" not being displayed on the HUD during cooperative gamemodes
  • Added two new mutators: "Biker Gang" & "Weapon Asylum Twin Turbo"
  • "Bonercycle" is now a slot 3 weapon
  • "Camera" is now a slot 3 weapon
  • Added the "Escape Plan" weapon (slot 3)
  • Decreased the chances of getting a slot 3 weapon
