Ironhound Posted January 13, 2016 Hey guys. I've owned alot of copies of Doom in my time, but for some reason the CD's all seem to disappear or stop working. I blame the forces of hell. Anyway, I picked up Doom 3 BFG on sale figuring why not get the whole series at once? Are the copies of Doom and Doom 2 contained within the BFG edition faithful to the originals? Its been a VERY long time since I've played the originals, so I'm working on a playthrough now. 0 Share this post Link to post

In my honest opinion you should've gotten the original Doom 3 and expansion instead of the BFG edition, sure it has a new episode but it's not really worth it considering the unnecessary changes to the vanilla game such as: the brightened maps killing the point in the flash light, the over abundance of ammo lowering difficulty by quite a bit, and not to mention the arcade machines were removed, but the main reason why it's not worth it is due to the mod support being stripped away. 0 Share this post Link to post
Chezza Posted January 13, 2016 I have the BFG edition, I use the Doom wads as my base for the Brutal doom Wad. If you're thinking of trying unique wads and new levels then it shouldn't make a significant difference. 0 Share this post Link to post

Yeah I didn't learn until AFTER I purchased BFG about the various changes. On the other hand, I've played Vanilla on Xbox, so I welcome the changes, I compensated for the difficulty by cranking it up. I was unaware of the censorship and modding issues tho, thanks! Its looking like I'll need to purchase some more copies of Doom. What a shame. ;) @Chezza Ah good to know! I was just looking at some unique wads like Brutal Doom. Thanks for your time guys! 0 Share this post Link to post
Avoozl Posted January 13, 2016 But the XBOX version is a bit different from the original PC version since its graphics were downscaled and the maps were chopped up somewhat. The mod issues were only with Doom 3 not the original Doom's, but I'm not saying that the censorship ruins the original Doom's. 0 Share this post Link to post
RUSH Posted January 13, 2016 I second Avoozl's opinion. The original Doom 3 is the best way to go. The levels are darker, scarier, and completely unaltered. Also, you have access to ALL the mods and maps you could ever hope to play. Used copies of the original are cheap and easy to find. 0 Share this post Link to post
