Doom map tropes you love & hate

Like - When they experiment with other map themes than just "Hell" or "UAC Base" Dislike - Grabbing a necessary item like a keycard just to be punished and be dropped into a pit of annoying enemies.
  2. Imagine doing a kill count from the Top 100 WADs list.

Doom & Doom 2 on the Switch - 1st Impressions

Overall I think this is just a cheaply done, fly-by-night cash grab, done so that Bethesda can squeeze a few more bucks outta the Doom IP with ports of the classics + Doom 3. These new ports are just too barebones, they dont offer anything new. Bethesda had the potential to make new exclusive levels for these ports like what they did with the BFG Edition ports with Nerve and NRFTL. But knowing how shoddily assembled things were made that'd probably be a disaster. Kinda sad how the old X360 versions of Doom 1 and 2 still blow these out of the water. Well unless they decide to actually fix them up and make them proper complete ports.

More goodies from Romero (DoomEd source, maps, graphics)

So what is it exactly? A beta of sorts for Doom 2? I'll be sure to check it out.

Selling an original version of DOOM on 3.5" floppy

Very nice. I would if I could, but I don't have a couple hundred dollars just laying around.

The importance and use of skies in Doom

(Reads OP) Hey man, i'm not crying, there's just something in my eye, I swear.

How much do you care about Doom's plot?

I don't think Doom really needs a deep plot. All you need is a good reason to kill the army of Hell and you're good. Like how all you need for a good Mario game is a reason to save the princess.

Favorite Source Port? (Multiple Choice Poll)

My main one is Crispy Doom. I like having the look of Chocolate Doom but I want the uncapped frame rates and the higher resolution support. But if im not playing vanilla and wanna play mods i'll just use GZDoom.

    Classic, WASD+mouse, or other?

Anyone here who still is dedicated to the OG keyboard + arrow keys only control scheme? If so I have much respect for you.

    Classic, WASD+mouse, or other?

I use WASD + Mouse, but when I play I disable mouselook and jumping.

Which monster would you say is your least favorite?

Chaingunners. Not by themselves. But when you enter a room and there are 6 firing at you from all directions they can melt you faster than you can say "Oh fuck!"

    VINESAUCE DOOM MAPPING CONTEST 2.

Will be nice to see what the Doom community will do this year. Maybe top last year!?
  13. Doom 2 is my fav. It has all the things Doom 1 had but it added more, and it worked so well. The addition of the SSG and the new baddies alone made the game feel totally different than it's predecessor. Also the level design is bigger and better, for the most part, and overall there was boost in difficulty. Doom 1 Hurt Me Plenty is much easier than Doom 2 Hurt Me Plenty, but that is just my opinion.

Brutal Doom wins mod of the year on Mod DB

I'm really not suprised, but at the same time I think there were mods, even non Doom mods that could have deserved the slot.

    Gotcha!

I think the purpose of the name is a reference to how you just walk into a room and you have the Spider Mastermind and a Cyberdemon fighting. It kinda catches you by suprise first time playing. You would not expect to have a regular level then suddenly having the 2 biggest baddies staring you down waiting to mow you down. TBH it got me off guard.
