  1. I guess it means that you do not have strictly linear progression, but are rather free to decide where to go first, having multiple possibilities of paths to take.
  2. Map 18 is currently unclaimed? Then I'd like to put my thumb on it. Haha, @myolden, I saw you enter it in the Google doc live by chance.

PUSS XXXIII: DIE ROWDY [ December Speedmapping ]

Map Name: A Regular, Normal Christmas Author: Grizzly Old B Music: “Central Park Loader” from Last Ninja 2 by Matt Gray (sequenced by christer) Build Time: 4 hours Co-op Starts: Y Difficulty Settings: N (not yet) Comments: You were on your way to your Christmas holiday suite, but somehow the elevator stopped on the wrong floor. Seems that life says nope to having a regular, normal Christmas just once. Screenshots: see below Download: PUSS_33_ARNC.zip Will spend some more time tomorrow to add difficulty settings and to do some balancing and polishing.
  4. Probably being stroke by a flash and some chemicals involved.
  5. Well, well, well. I guess here's someone who just didn't comprehend the sheer genius of my map. May I suggest you try once more? 😁
  6. Thanks a lot for your review + playthrough, @Arrowhead! When I created this map in my early 20s, I would never have dreamed that it would be reviewed and played again almost 28 years later. (And I also wouldn't have imagined that I started mapping again in 2023 ...) The Doom community in general and the Wadarcheology folks in particular are amazing! To anyone who decides to give this map a try – please leave me a comment about it. You would make an old Grizzly from Oldenburg very happy by doing so! :-) The Perry Rhodan franchise is still alive and kicking (although relatively little known outside Germany). It just hit issue no. 3250 a couple of days ago.
  7. This was such a fun experience! Last week I did a 1-hour speedmap, today a 30-second speedmap – what's next? A map in negative time? Thanks a lot for putting this together, Clippy! Here's my proof video:

Congrats for your map being picked! It seemed that decino was really happy for you. I hoped until #25 for my entry to get picked, but I guess it'll have to wait until the next round of viewer submissions ...

Apart from the “big three” I mentioned above I also like to watch: Clippy Clippington (especially when hanging out with his mapping homies) DavidXNewton (without whom I would probably not have come back to mapping) Pistoolkip (from the Netherlands; unfortunately not active at the moment) RoastDoom (I love the “roasted pain elemental” character throwing in occasional ironic/sarcastic comments) TheV1perK1ller (sadly no audio comments, but very skilled and precise playthroughs) And an honourable mention goes to: Batgirl fangirl (whose mix of gaming, drawing, and storytelling is really unique – go sub to her channel, she really deserves more viewers)

Is that Kes Gaming? I remember “accompanying” him with his very first steps in Doom 1 and 2 back then, one or two years ago. Providing some background info on the games and occasionally giving hints, e.g. when he went by a secret that he really needed. Lost track of him since. So he's still doing retro Doom stuff? Cool!

Same for me! There are a ton of other great DoomTubers out there, but those three made me return to Doom during the pandemic after decades of absence.

Box Doom - Community Project [Slots Filled]

Initial version of bonus room 2 (“Gallery of Modern Arch”): BOXxy_GrizzlyOldB.zip Oops, I made another one, just for fun! @randomsounds01, feel free to use it in case someone else drops out or doesn't get finished in time. Or if you want to include secret boxes 81 and 82, like secret levels 31 and 32 in a “normal” megawad. If it doesn't get included, I'll save it for putting it into another level maybe. Come visit the Gallery of Modern Arch – it has some surprises for you! The current exhibition features Doom 2's SKY1, SKY2, and SKY3 textures, plus the spooky faces thing. If this room gets included in the final wad, I would propose to replace these images by screenshots of memorable scenes from earlier boxes. I think that would be a nice gimmick, making the whole wad more coherent. I have tested the room with GZDoom and DSDA-Doom. Player 1 start + weapon/ammo in starting corridor as well as exit linedef in ending corridor will of course have to be removed. Feel free to give the room a try – feedback much appreciated. Screenshots: Map Overview: Map Info: Number: xy Author: Grizzly Old B Title: Gallery of Modern Arch Dimensions: 512x512 Tags used: 1-4 Enemy count: 5 (HMP, UV, NM), 4 (ITYTD, HNTR) Difficulties implemented: yes Custom textures: GOBCONC1 (from a concrete wall I photographed in my birth town)

    [Doom 2] 13 Pillars

If I wanted the pillars to lower faster, I would have to use Boom line specials anyway, as to my knowledge there are no fast lowering floors in vanilla Doom. I might do that. To be honest, this map was more or less a joke. There's some stupid counting game in some Discord channel, and when it came to the number 13, I thought, hey, can I quickly make a speedmap featuring the number 13 in some way? This is how this map originated.

    [Doom 2] 13 Pillars

Thanks for your playthrough. Yeah, you're probably correct about that. In my (short) testing in GZDoom, the archies often got boomed off their pillars after one or two rocket hits, which made it harder.

    [Doom 2] 13 Pillars

Dude, you're using some fairly overpowered weaponry there ... 😅 One-shot-killing archviles makes the map far too easy. But thanks for playing anyway.
