Doom 7 (Corridor 7 inspired map) (UDMF)

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

This is sort of a Corridor 7 tribute wad. It doesn't aim to be a total conversion, in fact the only resources from Corridor 7 I'm using is the music and a couple sound effects. I wanted to kind of capture the vibes from Corridor 7, I don't know if at the end I succeeded in that, but still I think it ended up being a little nice map on its own. My plan is to hopefully make this a minwad with at least 3 or 4 more maps that culminate on the player finding the interdimensionl portal and a final fight in hell.

Requires OTEX textures!!

Features
Corridor 7 mechanics such as ammo dispensers, health chambers, medikits in walls.
No proximity mines :(. Instead the rocket launcher is a starting weapon along with the pistol.

Format: UDMF (tested in LZDoom 3.87, Gzdoom 4.8.2)

IWAD: Doom2

Map(s): MAP01

Music: from Corridor 7

Difficulty Settings: Yes

Multiplayer Placement: No

Textures: Vanilla and OTEX

Requirements: OTEX. Mouselook recommended. Dynamic Lights recommended. Not designed for jumping and crouching

Credits

I took C7 resources from @Vermil's TC wad, which contains MIDI tracks and sound effects converted by Adam Biser and Alextheuse respectively.

The ugly title screen collage was done by me

Download (pk3 inside zip)
doom7.zip

doom7v1_1.zip

(drag and drop doom7.pk3 and otex_1.1.wad on the gzdoom.exe)

Changelog:

Spoiler

v1.1

- Fixed a problem in a secret where there was a floor too high and couldn't be crossed

- For the sake of compatibility I made the rocket launcher an actual pickable object instead of giving it to the player automatically via the start script (so that it can be played for example with Doom Delta, where the Rocket Launcher is called a different name and so the script didn't work)

Okay, noob question but how do you load OTEX alongside a WAD, PK3, etc in GZDoom?

I have the latest version of GZD (4.11.3a) and downloaded the non-UDB pk3 version from your link. I tried drag/dropping the map and OTEX pk3s on the GZ exe, inside a folder and out. I tried zipping both pk3s and drag/dropping. I tried adding the OTEX zip to the GZ directory and I also tried adding only the OTEX pk3. Edit: I also copy/pasted the contents of the OTEX zip into your map folder. I'm probably forgetting a few things but I tried everything I could think of until I gave up out of frustration. I only managed to load DOOM2.WAD or your map with the OTEX textures missing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit 2: No such luck with Doom Explorer or ZDL

@DoomGuy2077 Hi! Try using the WAD file of the OTEX textures. Either draggin and dropping (drag and drop doom7.pk3 and otex_1.1.wad on gzdoom.exe) or with ZDL you should be fine. Neither I was able to get it to work using the pk3 OTEX file, I'll update my post to link directly to the wad file. If using ZDL it should look something like this:

Thanks. I'll give it a shot.

Pretty good for the most part! It definitely replicates Corridor 7 nicely! If there was one serious flaw, it was waiting far too long for a shotgun and lots of ammo, although I think that was more in spirit of the original game iirc. Joe Abbati is a respectable midi composer if nothing else. I just didn't have the time to finish it though.

Yeah I chose to make the shotgun a second class citizen in this map to add to the oppressive atmosphere. And I guess corridor 7's music is either love it or hate it isn't it haha (I'm on the love it side, though it does sound crappier in midi)

Gave this a try, and I gotta say it's decently solid from what I've played so far. I can see myself playing this with Doom Delta one of these days, since this also feels like a Doom alpha map to an extent.

@SealSpace @Grungo Come here, this is what you both wanted, right?

Just viewed this thread yesterday on my IPhone on Sunday while I was at a bakery with my mum's friends on Saint Patrick's Day (got myself a large Shamrock Shake).

Wanted to chime in, but I couldn't log into this site from my phone. And I forgot to log into this site from my desktop all day...

Anyways I have to say that while I was expecting a Doom map with C7 wall textures and props, the closest approximations the guy made to C7's medikit and ammo walls in Doom was nice.

But I have to say above all, that hearing a Doom spin on Corridor 7's music was the most nicest and most refreshing spin of them all.

I would certainly like to hear every single track from C7's midi music converted using classic Doom music's soundfont.

You were right! I tried this and in fact it fits very nicely. We even get the little minimap in the HUD, like in Corridor 7. I uploaded a new version of the wad so that the player can get the rocket launcher (it was given via a script and in Doom Delta the rocket launcher class is named differently)

Glad to know that! I'll let @DrPyspy know just for the sake of it.

Also, I remember @MLGari used to ask about a Corridor 7 TC years ago. Maybe this will fill your old C7 appetite as well?
