Any theories about pretty much anything in classic doom?

The rocket launcher is secretly in love with the chainsaw, though they come from different worlds and are forever separated by fate and combat situations.

    Post your Doom textures!

Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own.
  3. I'm pretty new to mapping, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. I find I get really caught up with tiny little details sometimes and filling out the visuals of an area or its 'furniture' before completing the mechanical elements or moving on to finish building something. I'd appreciate some perspective from more experienced mappers. How do you tackle map building? Do you finish the map first, or decorate along the way? Do you have a strict process, does it change based on the level, or do you let is happen organically?

    I can't come up with a level layout/idea

Ooooh, I'm just starting, and I'm bubbling with ideas. I feel can help. Make a feature. A big fountain, or a huge crater, a tower. It gives you a starting point and develops the central area a player can return to. Think of stuff you would run into in a game like Fallout, something open-worldy. I bet you can think of something cool to build in doom. Build a mechanism. Think of the level as a machine that does something. It's a factory or stomach or a nuclear silo. Build a little mechanism that has parts and make rooms out of those parts. Think of strategy games like starcraft or rimworld, or dare I say, Dwarf Fortress. You'll get some cool ideas. Have a theme. Make a big central room that just shows off that theme in all its glory, like its a huge museum display. Build side areas off of that with variations on the theme. This one is really all about textures - those are the clay your level is sculpted from. Pick something from the og textures or go texture hunting for a couple days and you'll have tons of ideas for levels. Hope that helps, but don't expect any advice from me on finishing stuff.

Always yes. Make the game you want to play.

How often do you take a break from Doom

I generally alternate between playing and modding for somewhere between a few weeks and a few months, but since I got back into og doom its basically one or the other all the time.
  7. If you define a custom class for the player, you can edit the states to do something along these lines. Because the "See" state is what is used to animate a sprites walking frames, if you edit it for the player it will only run while the player is moving and stop when standing still. You can use inheritance for the player pawn, so you only need one little chunk of Deco script to do the job - something like: ACTOR MrPiedlourde : DoomPlayer { States { See: PLAY AB 4 A_PlaySound("Clip") PLAY CD 4 A_PlaySound("Clop") Loop } } I haven't done exactly what you're trying before, so you may need to tinker a bit to get it to work how you want - hope this helps!

Valknuts are good. They were used by viking "pagans" (Odin worshipers) during the time they were raiding English Christian temples from Denmark. All that Satanic iconography is pagan anyhow, so its thematically appropriate.

Any solo doom modding will need like 3 or 4 different skills to make something - this is a good start! Making a custom weapon is actually pretty easy. If you grab yourself a copy of SLADE and follow a tutorial you can get the basics down pretty quick - then its just a matter of tweaking.

Cool man, looks ready to use, which is the most important thing. Although if you want to be nice, its best to leave at least one straight line of blank pixels between each sprite so you can box select without catching any unwanted pixels. Also, this is just me, but I don't think you have to worry so much about attribution. The most impactful part is that you're contributing to the community's resources, plus if you're putting up good work folks will recognize your name.

Dude I know I give a lot of support but this is AMAZING. There is no other sprite like this anywhere else right now (far as I know anyhow). This is an amazing attack sprite "projectile" and just seeing it makes me want to dev new weapons just to use it.
