  3. MAV2C - A Deathmatch WAD (BETA TEST)

The exit switch is in the Northeast, you press the Satyr switch (SW) on the Roundhouse to get to it. Pardon my cacodemon. :-)

There are chainguns, shotguns, rockets, a plasma gun (hidden) and a chainsaw (hidden). The roundhouse has a blur sphere. On -altdeath you could reuse it...

A few monsters to soften you up, or you can play without them.

There is no nukage or crushers, but you can rocket yourself to death if you insist. I will probably segregate weapons by difficulty level in the final product, but for now they're all in there.

There are a few "breaks" for people who get hunted by stronger players. But whoever knows the layout best will probably triumph...

  5. NJ Castle

Olde level made quite quickly with Deathmatch play in mind but bears little resemblance to modern DM levels. Released purely because of interest in old, cheesy 1994 WADS.

The file date may or may not be accurate. This file was originally uploaded to the Compuserve action games forum in 1994.

  6. MEGADETH Version 2.4a (updated to DooM v. 1.9)

    * mega.deh * In mega.deh is the MegaViolence mode. If you use plain vanilla doom, you can load it with dehacked (it's stored at utils/exe_edit/dhe31.zip in the /idgames -archives, see list of mirrors at the end of this file) into your doom.exe. If you use an advanced source-port, you can load it with the -deh -parameter. [Please read MEGADETH.TXT in megad24a.zip for detailed description of the MegaViolence Mode.]

    * laser.wad * Laser-sight graphics for weapons. Newer source ports shouldn't have problems with loading this graphics-replacement in combination with the level-wads in this release. But if you use plain vanilla doom, you should get the latest version of DEUSF ( /utils/graphics_edit/deutex/deutex44.zip in the /idgames -archives) and join them. If you do it with MEGADETH.WAD, the command is: DEUSF -join MEGADETH.WAD laser.wad (MEGADETH.WAD now contains both wads). Typing: -append MEGADETH.WAD will append the sprites & flats of Doom to that WAD. This will work also with the other level-wads in this package. Again: Most newer source-ports don't require this procedure.

    ################################################# # THIS COUNTS FOR ALL THE FOLLOWING LEVEL-WADS: # # Please use mega.deh and laser.wad instead of # # the outdated 1.2-only addon-files! # #################################################

    * MEGADETH.WAD * The ultimate DeathMatch level. This level is specifically designed for DEATHMATCH play. It comprises 4 zones: the ATRIUM (centre); JSH ZONE (East); ARENA (West); and the WARP ZONE (North). There are also two SECRET ROOMS. Each zone has its own theme, strategy and secrets. Note that the skill levels (1-5) also have a major effect on the strategies. MEGADETH is designed to be played with monsters present. MEGADETH incorporates the use of enhanced weapons. Laser sights and MegaViolence mode are independently switchable (see mega.deh and laser.wad). [Please read MEGADETH.TXT in megad24a.zip for detailed background story and gameplay hints.]

    * KHOON.WAD * KHOON is the Punjabi/Hindi version of MEGADETH (sounds in that language). Originally published in DMKHOO.ZIP. [Please read KHOON.TXT.]

    * MEGANUTZ.WAD * Another version of MEGADETH.WAD. Originally published in DMNUTZ.ZIP. [Please read MEGANUTZ.TXT.]

    * DETHSTAR.WAD * DETHSTAR Version 1.1 It's a modified version of WARZONE4.WAD by David M. Lewis. It is E1M4 in WARZONE0.WAD. Both can be downloaded from the /idgames-archives here: /levels/doom/deathmatch/v-z/warzone.zip . [Please read DETHSTAR.TXT.]

    * STARBASE.WAD * STARBASE Version 1.1 - A modified version of SPACE.WAD by Chris Badger. The original, that works properly only with DooM v. 1.2, can be downloaded here: /levels/doom/deathmatch/d-f/dmspace.zip - A bugfixed version, that works properly with DooM v. 1.9 can be found here: levels/doom/d-f/dmspc-fx.zip The bug fix was made by Sean Hawthorne. - That 1.2-only bug was also in the MEGADETH- version, STARBASE.WAD. It was solved by the uploader (FunDuke). The original version is stored in starbold.zip. [Please read STARBASE.TXT.]

  9. Matrix Match

Deathscription: This is a functional Deathmatch wad. It ain't pretty, and I didn't pay a lot of attention to textures. The reason: I wsa sitting at work saying I need a new Deathmatch with lots of windows and dark rooms. Well, I whipped it up in 45 minutes, called my buddies up into the computer room and said, "Alright, let's go, 4 players, let's rumble!". We had hours of good play from it so I figured I'd share it. Have fun Ladies and Gents. May the Frags Be With You! Oh yeah, I didn't put in an exit. If you want one, Do it yourself!

  12. Nowhere

A set of 9 deathmatch maps for Doom/ Ultimate Doom. Replaces Episode 3. This is my first set of maps, finished back in 1994. I never uploaded it because it was far from perfect. However, lately I have been getting requests for it.

There are a lot of deathmatch starts. All weapons except the BFG are available immediately at all starts.

Please don't use any of these levels as a base to build your own. I am going to modify them and turn them into a Doom2 set. The Doom version of the files will not be changed anymore.

  22. NORKNOW

This is a DEATHMATCH ONLY wad. It must be played under DEATHMATCH 2.0 rules. It is based on a flying arena with a few extra areas and tricks thrown in. If you do not use DEATHMATCH 2.0 rules, you will quickly run out of wings to fly with. There is an exit, but I threw in a Maulotaur to remind you that that should only be entered when everyone is ready.

I also added a few extra sounds, including one which you might recognize, but I hope you don't tell anyone about so I don't get sued.

If you really feel the need to play this single player, or co-op, go ahead, but don't send me mail about how you are an idiot. I can figure that out myself.

    EnJOY!

  24. MyHouse.wad

This is a completely blueprint accurate WAD of my house. I designed the level so my friends who don't have doom can come over to play Doom via modem would know the level without having to ask me which way to turn all the time. I also added a few underground tunnels and secret passageways that my house obviously doesn't have. There are hidden teleporters, detailed furniture, and a couple great hiding places. Even though the size of the file is large, the level itself is not that big. It is because of the furniture. Be sure to check out the fireplace and Bathroom's with moving toxic waste!!! This is my first attempt at creating a WAD so please be kind. Enjoy!!! (please tell my what you think!!!) noah@seas.ucla.edu

I think should write something here, since some of the sounds are used in my recent wad.   Although, everything relevant has been said already. Here's "golden star" for proving, that even dubious mods have something intresting.

One of the more underrated doom mods out there. The levels have a lot of detail and great use of 3D sectors, used for railings and other things. Not a lot of mods that I know of has these attentions to detail back then other than KDiZD. I like how the first gun, not weapon, first gun in the mod is a quad barreled shotgun. This might be bias but I don't see any other mods or games give the player a quad barreled shotgun as a starter weapon.

The cutscenes and artwork used for them are REALLY well made. I like its story and the protagonist John Logan. His design looks like a cross between Daniel Garners from Painkiller and the Doom Marine from well, Doom 3.

Speaking of Painkiller, the mod uses tracks from Painkiller, which is a nice touch. Admittedly, there are things in Legacy of Suffering that I don't like, such as the Painkiller/Serious Sam arena wave sections. Not all of them are bad, but the later levels that uses them are the worst offenders. Often spawning mancubi, pain elementals, and revenants that just makes the fights more tedious.
      DISCLAIMER: SPOILERS AHEAD
      END OF SPOILERS:
In conclusion, Legacy of Suffering is a really well made mod and I really want other people to try it out. I would suggest to start on the easiest difficulty, do NOT get fooled by the normal difficulty Ultra Violence, it will kick your ass, and anything higher will probably break your soul. Other than that, I would highly recommend you to play this mod. It can be played on GZDoom, Zandronum, and Skulltag. That is the end of the review, have a nice day :)

Enigma is not exactly my cup of tea; the mandatory secrets are a bit annoying and the confusing layout of the maps doesn't help much. Still, the maps are fun to navigate and they feature some great architecture that lead to unique gameplay encounters. Overall, it's decently fun.

Nothing better than baiting the Bazooka Man into blowing himself up! Obituary doesn't pull any punches; you'll be facing tons of hitscanners and plenty of nasty traps, but you'll get to appreciate the fine work the Möller brothers did with this WAD. The maps are intricately designed with a judicious use of textures, some of them custom-made. The new array of weapons is great, especially the flamethrower, which can shred down a cyberdemon in seconds! The low point might be the plain secret map and icon of sin fight, but overall, Obituary strikes home more often than not.

In recent years, general opinon of MM seemed to move towars negative, moreso than any other classic 90's megawad. It's nice to see it recieve some positive attention and even though I'm not exactly a reviewer, I figured I'd join in. Aside from couple rough maps, it remains a great experience today. Generally good and varied vanilla visuals with beautiful highlights like Maps 05, 13, 14 and 21, certainly helped by some great, really cool custom textures, which fit in with the classic ones incredibly well, much better than any other 90's custom stuff (aside from Eternal Doom, but that's a completely different aesthetic). The maps are quite varied without the whole thing becoming incosistent/all over the place and the variety really helps blaze through the whole thing. In comparison, while I prefer MM2 in terms of individual levels, it has a ton of long or similar maps back to back, which can get tiring and take much longer to geth through. Another aspect of MM I really like is some really, unique and fun design choices, or even whole map designs that you don't see much these days for some reason. The Innocent Crew's maps especially are very creative in fun and refreshing ways. Incredibly underrated mappers. Literally everyone knows this already, but Mark Klem's music is amazing.
