About This File

This is a copy of the source code for DOOM's executable, v1.10 (public release version). This source code was initially released under the DOOM license in 1997, but then dual licensed (DOOM/GPL) in 1997 to encourage transparency in the development of ports and extensions of the DOOM game engines. A copy of the source under the DOOM license may be obtained at id Software's FTP, or at one of its mirrors on /idgames in the /idstuff/source directory.

I already voted 5 on this before. But I don't think this can get enough praise. After all, this is the reason the game still lives today. 5/5 -Lupinx-Kassman.

Deserves no less than 5 stars, no matter the (ab)uses some may have put it to.

I don't see why this doesn't have five full stars. Who voted 4? This is definitely legendary! 5/5

Anyone voting less then 5 on this should go look at what they hold dear in Doom, and realize this makes those advanced source ports, Whether it be ZDoom or one of its daughter ports or Chocolate Doom and etc. None could exist without this source code. Giving us all that awesome game we all know, love and still go off making new content for. That being said, 5/5.

The innards of a legendary engine that's been pushing sophisticated artwork ever since Carmack typed it into existence - lovely gem to peek into and getting inspired. 5/5

Great WAD, solidly nails that fantasy castle crawling feeling, not too rough on the player nor overly stingy/generous on supplies, encourages good use of items, plenty of navigation and switch puzzles as is apt for Heretic, but also lets loose with a little slaughter.   Some areas could use slightly brighter lighting, and sometimes the next switch or door isn't signalled too well, but overall a fun and feisty fantasy fight fest.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.
