Misc. Author Info : 31 year old Doomer - been playing Doom since it came out and just started trying my hand at mapping.
Description : Two-pack of separate WADs entitled "Fear of the Dark" and "Blood of the Earth" respectively. These are the first two maps I've ever created - they may be included in a SomethingAwful community megawad in the future but I'm releasing them as stand-alones for people to check out. Both levels can be played and completed from a pistol start (as I would recommend to get the intended effect). Neither is particularly long and shouldn't be overly difficult for an experienced Doomer, though ammo and health are fairly tightly judged, so bear that in mind.
Fear of the Dark began life as something of an "Underhalls" (Doom II MAP02) homage as well as drawing some inspiration from "Power Outage" (Scythe MAP10) and developed into its own level over time.
Backstory: You've been sent to a secret underground UAC base after receiving a distress call. Evidently the electrical system was damaged during an attack by hellspawn and there are lighting outages throughout the base. You enter through a maintenance corridor only to find the door locked behind you. Your mission is to eliminate all hostiles and locate the emergency exit passageway.
Blood of the Earth started out as "The Dying Ground" - drew some initial inspiration from the old Quake deathmatch level "Place of Two Deaths" before running with my own theme after I played with some detailing.
Backstory: A temple complex located in a network of caverns has been discovered, but the survey team sent in to map out the complex has vanished and is not responding to any communications. You've been sent in to locate the survey team. With only a pistol for backup - you arrive at the entrance to the complex, only to find one of the team members dead near the entrance, confirming your worst fears. There may be some usable ordnance elsewhere in the complex that the original team brought with them.
