About This File

You arrive at Widow's Grieve. It is dusk and not a sound is heard across the forbidding quagmire. Briefly, you consider heading back to Merz's for another stiff one, but some dark magic has silently filled in the tunnel behind you with stone... You curse D'Sparil and this mad quest.

You shudder, knowing full well that luck, as much as anything, has kept you one step ahead of the Serpent Rider so far.

If any of their kind were to ever become aware of this place... Well, let's just say it would be a very bad thing. The locations of the Seven Places of Power are known by an even fewer number of mortal sorcerors. (And sorcerors are pretty damn rare.) Most of them are smart enough to keep their mouths shut. Then again, Merz told you...

You magically summon your last few possessions with an absent gesture. A bottomless pack, a good shield spell and a jar of healthy juice appear nearby. You meditate awhile and then review the facts:

A Power Place IS nearby. You have to find the entrance.

A plethora of Legendary Artifacts no doubt await the eager, heroic mage.

Death (or worse) is the fate of the foolish. Be patient, resourceful and, above all, observant, and you may live to talk about it.

If the means to destroy a Serpent Rider can be found here, then surely a way of escape for you must also exist as well...

You sigh. Your feet are soaked with the cold, oily, green muck. Time to get going. It would be nice to at least find someplace dry before nightfall...

This is a maze of tunnels and halls, mostly flat, and with what seems to be beginner stuff. The wings are required to progress, so don't waste them. As with many such maps, it contains D'Sparil whom you'd do best to avoid.

Fine as an author's first level but most players will get bored of these long corridors and no color bowls next to the locked doors. 2/5 ~Naan

Great WAD, solidly nails that fantasy castle crawling feeling, not too rough on the player nor overly stingy/generous on supplies, encourages good use of items, plenty of navigation and switch puzzles as is apt for Heretic, but also lets loose with a little slaughter.   Some areas could use slightly brighter lighting, and sometimes the next switch or door isn't signalled too well, but overall a fun and feisty fantasy fight fest.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.
