About This File

Hell Revealed is a megawad, a 32-level replacement for DooM II, created by Yonatan Donner and Haggay Niv.

In Hell Revealed, you will find: 32 new high-quality very detailed levels, many new graphics including textures, flats, skies, status bars and others, full skill-level support and additional attention to coop-players, and extreme challenge.

Hell Revealed supports single player, cooperative (with additional weapons and enemies) and several maps have special DM parts (maps 1 and 2 are especially good for deathmatch).

Maps 1-11 are rather weak, but it improves a lot afterwards. Cool music too - 3.5 --> 4

It's very good for its time, but nowadays it simply falls short. The level design is stomped upon and malformed by hordes of poorly placed monsters. Is it really necessary to have so many cyberdemons?

Although the first half of the wad involves a lot of boring SSGing of high hit-point demons to death (it's not hard, just tedious), later on you're given a lot more rocket crates and energy cells. But given how old the wad is, it deserves a 5 despite whatever small nitpicking critiques you can make. Truly a classic, and a fun play.

Definitely one of the best WADs ever created. I enjoyed it much better than Alien Vendetta. Yes, HR is extremely hard, nearly impossible at times, even on HMP difficulty, especially for common Doom-players, but otherwise, it's perfect in every way. For Doom veterans, it's a must-play, for average players, it's a great but fun challenge when played on lower difficulties. The gameplay is one of the best I've ever seen in any WAD, and same goes for the music. GO GET IT NOW! 5/5

While the levels may not be the most visually appealing, they're certainly full of creative design quirks. definitely a fun mapset overall.

Hell was definitely revealed to us in 1997. That's what I call a firefight. *4*

A legendary feature in the doom community, a consept wad that set the terms for alot of wads to come. Open grand scale architecture and a very distinct feel; thanks to features like the memmorable pink syk, the ROTT midi tracks and Donners knack for over the hill gameplay. Creativity mixed with simplicity borderlining cheapness, the Bob Dylan of doom megawads perhaps. A 5/5 in my heart, but it gets a 3/5 on paper. -Johnsen

Best wad in history, ever... to this date (2014)! Except for HR2 which is *slightly* better but I view the two as one huge monolith of greatness anyway(sorry, got carried away there)... 6/5? Play with Brutal DooM and spend the rest of the weekend wiping blood splatters from your ceiling lol

Hell revealed is a pretty unique megawad, for me. It's a pioneer of the extreme gameplay megawads, and in my opinion, and only AV manages to top it in that cathegory IMO, even if it sometimes gets too hard for me. The first 12 "warm up" maps have, actually a pretty normal gameplay, but after that it gets really hard and violent. Most of the maps are actually not too detailed (some of them seem to be more worked on, while some are pretty bare), but the levels are very atmosferic.

Perhaps the greatest stroke of genius ever seen in Doom level editing. Utterly brilliant. 5/5 --Woolie Wool

I realise this is an old wad, but the architecture and detail is far too simplistc. The challenge is great, but every level is just boxes, with almost no surprise or intrigue. Memento mori 2, which i didn't even like that much, I found that more interesting and fun. I usually like all the big megawads made, but this one just doesn't do it for me. 3/5

Oh god, a brutal WAD. Probably the hardest one I've ever played, but still really fun. MAP24, Post Mortem has probably gone down as one of the hardest levels ever made (in a legitimate WAD). The maps are not spectacular looking but you won't notice because you'll be running around the whole goddamn time. Tons of monsters but copious helpings of ammo to go with them. 4/5.

Just as important as the Doom II IWAD, a must-have for anyone who takes an interest in hardcore Dooming. Legendary is an understatement *****

Super hard at times, but still lots of fun if you can handle the challenge. 4/5 stars.

Gets better as it goes on, true to the fact that Donner and Niv refined their technique the more they mapped. Plus the challenge is INSANE! Play Map24 for insanity's sake... or Map23/26 for the fact that there isn't another vanilla level like either of 'em. Afterlife is one of the best levels I've ever played in my life. Top 10 for sure. This one is all win.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.

It's pretty good for 1994. If you don't mind having no health items at all (except in a few maps) and the outrageous amounts of cyberdemons per map, you should give it a try. It's pretty challenging and I like it. E2M3 is a bit 'eh...' though.
