About This File

This WAD is the first part of my 3-part series entitled "The Unholy War" The next two parts are tentatively titled "Gotterdammerung" and "Prelude to Armageddon" respectively.Part 1 takes place in a mammoth UAC spaceport carved out of some 3 dozen mountains 300km northwest of Denver, CO. Most of these mountains were literally leveled to create a man-made plateau. You start at level 1 (Entryway) and fight your way to level 11 ("O" of Destruction) and I MEAN FIGHT! The original DOOM II starport levels pale in comparison to this.Be prepared for some vicious firefights and hair- pulling architectural riddles. This version update fixes a few minor bugs in levels 5 & 6.Levels 4,7,8 & 9 were revamped in order to correct the "savegame buffer overrun" bug that occurs when one attempts to save the game on these levels. The PWAD has been recompiled for DOOM II v1.9

Big, bland, repetitive, unintuitive, confusing, endless backtracking, endless slow lifts, pointless mazes, unmarked secrets necessary to progress etc. Little good to say about this. Gave up at map03 - either an exit lift was broken or there was some obscure switch I missed. Had a peek at map04 and wasn't going to even bother, it just looked even worse. Wad of last resort if you've run out of other maps to play. Tedious in the extreme.

Great WAD, solidly nails that fantasy castle crawling feeling, not too rough on the player nor overly stingy/generous on supplies, encourages good use of items, plenty of navigation and switch puzzles as is apt for Heretic, but also lets loose with a little slaughter.   Some areas could use slightly brighter lighting, and sometimes the next switch or door isn't signalled too well, but overall a fun and feisty fantasy fight fest.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.
