About This File

A 32 level megawad for doom2. This megawad doesn't have perfect texture alignment, insane detail and fantasticly hard gameplay. Instead it focuses on small fun maps to blast through without much thought about defense. The difficulty rises steadily as you go through the maps and the last few should challenge even the best.

Easily my favorite wad. Great detail and traps keep you on your toes. Very difficult on UV. 5/5

^Scythe 2 is much better than Scythe 1! But Scythe 1 is okay too!

A series of small but fantastic maps in every aspect. I had a blast playing this and wish Scythe II would come out someday - as Erik Alm is a genius!

Truely an awesome wad. Nearly all maps are small (exceptions are 29, 30, ?19), but they all look & play great. Unless you hate small maps, this wad is an absolute don't miss. On a side note, a very clever trick is used in Map28 (Run From It); I had to read some and take a peak in an editor to see how it's done. Basically, there's a seperate Player1 start in an area which can't be reached, and a crusher takes about 30 seconds to reach (and kill) that player. When that player is killed, so are you.

No doubt the best in the Scythe series. I always en up playing at least 5-6 maps when my initial plan was to play onely one or two. That is evidence of great maps/gameplay :) 5*, well deserved.

I havn't had this much fun since i first fired up doom. The only people who wouldn't like this wad are people who havn't played it, or are in the cracker box.

Definitely in my top5 of best WADs ever. It has short and powerful maps, with well thought-out layout and seriously one of the greatest atmospheres I've ever encountered in a Doom WAD. Map19 is probably my most favorite map ever, but that's also due to the song which fits perfectly to the theme. Another great aspect is the monster placement. Also the slaughter maps are pretty neat to play, like map26 and map30. The only negative point is map28 as I couldn't finish it withouth cheating...

I really liked the short and difficult levels towards the end. They provided a good challenge while not being tedious to retry if failed. The long difficult ones (29,30) were good too, but nothing unique. (lots of levels like that in AV, HR, and HR2 :P) 5/5 because this wad has some of my favorite levels.

Now this is what I call great quality! The mapping was very good and the gameplay was well balanced; the first levels are very easy and the last levels (especially 26, 28 and 30) are very hard. Another thing I like about this megawad is that the levels are short and sweet. The challenge is quite different from Hell Revealed, Alien Vandetta and Deus Vult, but it gets more similar in the last levels, and that is what makes Scythe unique. Download this now! 5/5

Best megawad ever made. Not a single level in this map feels unfinished or overdone. The maps are interesting, and the gameplay is top notch. Even in the last few levels, where you're fighting hundreds of monsters at a time, the levels still flow smoothly. If garbage like cutscenes and gimmicky scripting is what you're after, go download Zdoom maps. If you want to be "WOW'ed" by big open spaces with stupid amounts of monsters, go play Deus Vult. If you want to play Doom, download this.

Great WAD, solidly nails that fantasy castle crawling feeling, not too rough on the player nor overly stingy/generous on supplies, encourages good use of items, plenty of navigation and switch puzzles as is apt for Heretic, but also lets loose with a little slaughter.   Some areas could use slightly brighter lighting, and sometimes the next switch or door isn't signalled too well, but overall a fun and feisty fantasy fight fest.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.
