Quasar Posted August 13, 2021 Thought I'd point out that I finished a massive wiki article for Judgment Day, the 1995 Microsoft Halloween party that featured the final rounds of Deathmatch '95, antics by GWAR, a Texas band called Society of the Damned that seriously offended MS PR, the infamous video of Bill Gates superimposed into Doom, and various other shenanigans. There's been a lot of historical interest in this event in the past, but nowhere that just gathered up the sum of knowledge about it from available sources. I started researching this a few years ago but it took me a long time to get around to putting the article together. 30 Share this post Link to post

Gez Posted August 14, 2021 Not the kind of articles one would find on a fandumb wiki. :D 7 Share this post Link to post

Redneckerz Posted August 14, 2021 @Quasar you are missing a few capitals (Just kidding). A huge investigative piece, a journaille tour de force. Thanks for making every other article look pale in comparison :P 2 Share this post Link to post
Endless Posted August 14, 2021 Quote Bill Gates in Doom Upon seeing the results, the public relations personnel demanded that the video was to only ever be shown once, at the event, and was to then be surrendered to the Microsoft archives.St. John states that it is only thanks to a DirectX fan employee who smuggled the video out of the company that it is now widely available. Hot! I didn't knew it was thanks to this DirectX hero that we got such an iconic piece of gaming-ads history. I do wonder, how good was Windows 95 for gaming in reality? Was it reliable? Did it play Doom fine? 1 Share this post Link to post

This is Win 98, but this stuff happened all the time. 2 Share this post Link to post
LuciferSam86 Posted August 15, 2021 Slightly OT : yeah I remember Windows 95 BSODs. But thanks to the "power tools" I was able to change the colors of them. For me they were GSOD : green screen of death for both Windows 9x :) 1 Share this post Link to post
cybdmn Posted August 15, 2021 Remember reading about that episode in The Masters of Doom. Great stuff. 2 Share this post Link to post

Dantosking Posted October 17, 2023 (edited) It's time for a real research! I just want to understand how it was and that's all. I could be wrong while I was trying to identify these people. Spoiler Next moment: I think this article needs a fix. Because we could see how Q-Tip and Stoney coming on the scene and play semi-final match. There's no Kreuzin yet. BandKo is telling us what he lost his second round (Round 2 or Round 3 on brackets). Semi-final: Stoney vs Q-tip Merlock vs Thresh Final: Thresh vs Stoney My proposed tournament bracket: Spoiler I hope those people who knows more than me could help me a little. I also try to find any lmp from there Extra stuff from PC-ZONE article Spoiler Dwango6.wad Spoiler Edited October 17, 2023 by Dantosking 2 Share this post Link to post
Hellektronic Posted October 18, 2023 Fascinating, GWAR? I didn't even know about this, hah. 0 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted October 18, 2023 (edited) I'll note that McCandless indicates that Joe Wilcox (Sillysoft) was a "semi-finalist" but that seems difficult to reconcile with the brackets as otherwise known so who knows what he actually meant by that. EDIT: he also claims Merlock had two byes. Then again he spends 90% of his article ribbing on Merlock due to the guy's notorious reputation for self-aggrandizement and trashtalk on Usenet so who knows if that's factual or just meant to make him look worse.
