GooberMan Posted April 26, 2006 A workmate found an image of an eBay bid from August last year where someone bid over $200 for a PSP Value Pack box. The funny part? People are still doing it. 0 Share this post Link to post
leileilol Posted April 26, 2006 so hey, how about that PICTURE of an xbox complete with 18 games sold on ebay 0 Share this post Link to post
AndrewB Posted April 26, 2006 It's legal to a point. But eBay could always declare fraud, and the seller would have to challenge in court. Unless the seller has deep pockets and a good lawyer, he/she would lose. 0 Share this post Link to post
Rotting Corpse Posted April 26, 2006 Thats stuped. Why would any one pay 190.00 for a box? 0 Share this post Link to post
Graf Zahl Posted April 26, 2006 Because they don't bother to read the text in the auction. Some people are so utterly dumb it defies belief. Besides, it may be legal in the US but don't try to do this in Germany. Your lawyer will be a happy guy if you do! ;) 0 Share this post Link to post
Technician Posted April 26, 2006 Its 100 percent legal. He clearly states what it is he's selling. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kristian Ronge Posted April 26, 2006 Is the seller responsible for the picture under "Description"? Because that would certainly count as misleading. 0 Share this post Link to post
AndrewB Posted April 26, 2006 It's a picture of the box. Nm I see what you mean. 0 Share this post Link to post
Technician Posted April 26, 2006 Yah I just noticed the complete system image. Its misleading but so is a McDonalds add. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kristian Ronge Posted April 26, 2006 Yes, but what I'm getting at is that it could be used as "evidence" of attempted fraud in court. The textual description, though, makes it absolutely clear that only the box is for sale, so the seller would likely win any such court case. By the way, I'm not sure this guy is trying to scam anybody. There is a market for original packaging, much like there is a market for e.g. empty beer bottles. People collect anything... 0 Share this post Link to post
Technician Posted April 26, 2006 Yah. Maybe a box from the past but this box can be found at any dump after chrsitmas. 0 Share this post Link to post
AndrewB Posted April 26, 2006 Come off it, nobody would knowingly pay $190 for a box. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kristian Ronge Posted April 27, 2006 You're absolutely right, the price range indicates that the bidders believed they were bidding on a PSP and not just the box. But I never said it didn't. I was talking about the seller's intent (fraud, or -- perhaps highly unlikely -- a genuine belief that somebody would be interested to buy the Value Pack box, coupled with an unfortunate stock photo selection provided by Ebay(?)). Anyway, people need to learn how to read. 0 Share this post Link to post
Hobbs Posted April 27, 2006 Heh, idiots never cease to amaze me. And its not fraud when you clearly state what your selling and deliver just that. 0 Share this post Link to post
