Help!! Something's Wrong With My Entryway!!
SleepyVelvet replied to Logamuffin's topic in Map Releases & Development
FDA for what it's worth. I enjoyed it. noisy_somethins wrong.zip (accidentally recorded in not boom) -
Good map. Liked the finely technician ending (and secret). The subdued, purple pain palette through me off a little but I liked it. Played the whole thing, but here's a partial 10 minute FDA: noisy_moon.zip

Was just about to grind judgementrt.wad Map01 NoMo for a night. I tend to not read but glad I just double checked the thread by accident. -

Nah I just somehow missed it, it's the walkover one in the corner on top of the bookshelf (maybe tuck a health-bonus there if you're critical). The map itself is all vanilla format otherwise other than overflow errors from detailing. Only things of note are the intermission text, which is PNG format and crashes some ports after the level is over, and the cosmetic MAPINFO that most "limit-removing" engines just skip over anyways. Not that you should pressured to change those, just pointing out in case it's fun to know.

Thanks, @irukanjji. Really good (and exhausting) challenge map with only a dozen monsters in the vein of Frog and Toad. An attempt was made: noisy_diand.zip

Seems to work fine in DSDA-Doom (presumably vanilla too). Here's an FDA: noisy_MAP01_cruci-fiction.zip Not bad. I got stumped at one of the lifts that I somehow didn't trigger so I checked Doombuilder. I lost a punchout to the final baron at the end after running out of ammo, but that's because the tight ammo balance didn't fit my sloppy playstyle. Thanks for sharing.

Cute, but deadly. Certainly not gonna win an award, but I enjoyed it. Here's a demo recorded in DSDA-Doom. noisy_valleyofw.zip

GameNGen: Neural model game engine that "runs" Doom

I'd say it's a lot deeper than that. But I'd suggest going around the block and curb. I started building a Twitter scraper years back, only to have my BPD mom threaten to kill herself everytime I wasn't "finding a job in the immediate moment", and apparently that got to me. I got a job anyways, and then ended up in the layoff mess of the past few years. I used to think AI was potentially an all-swallowing demiurge, worse than Skynet - a literal geometric series converging into an abstract hu-cow industrial complex; now I kinda sees it as a meme, but a cool one. I guess now I'm an alcoholic, unemployed dumpster-fire living in a half-way home now, but God-damn I find this all amusing. -
Is Doom 2 Truly As Badly Designed As They Say? (Or The Nonsensical Ramblings of DSC)
SleepyVelvet replied to DSC's topic in Doom General Discussion
I just played a recent wad by GermanPeter that captured a lot of Doom II's original charm, imo. Leans on homages to the original, but not falling into typical homage traps; They aren't direct copies but somehow fresh takes on the originals. I'm guessing that a lot of us are jaded by some of Doom II's maps, but this wad might hit your palate cleanly. I'd recommend HMP and to get at least past the McGee-in-Sandy-style maps (first several) and into the Sandy-in-Sandy/Romero-in-Sandy-style maps. Though, if you didn't like the original Doom II at all, then I guess ignore... Also, there are no bad Doom II maps 😎 -

GameNGen: Neural model game engine that "runs" Doom

Maybe they should make it simulate a field of grass next in case people need to touch it. AI was a lot creepier when it's applied to social networks, etc, treating our interconnected society and interpersonal connections as a sick game-theoretic board game. Invisible Eldritch hands of fate from every direction trying to manipulate, triangulate, only to go full circle (unless I'm just huffing copium) as it rubberbands back onto itself. (Funny enough, I think there was a very famous slaughtermapper that used to post here who got disgusted and quit his Salesforce job when they started to make him implement more and more creepy stuff.) Though I'd like to think these are just growing pains that humanity always finds a way to weasel out of. When machine learning like this is more "in people's faces" and it's just making images and text (and annoyingly putting the job market into chaos for the time being), I am actually a lot more optimistic than others here. -
I am glad I just clicked on this thread. edit: I love them btw.
