About This File

Z-Match: 3rd Strike is a collection of 14 maps with a hellish, almost medieval theme. Inspiration is taken from several great WADs, but this pack has a unique identity that it brings to the table. Gameplay and detail were top priority while designing these - You will -not- get bored playing them!

An incredibly awesome map pack that gives the days of old a humble and refreshing coat of paint. The touch-ups to the weapons' properties are subtle and very welcome, giving usefulness to other lesser used weapons (namely the melee weps) Some of the maps are a /bit/ gimmicky, but for the most part everything's solid and a whole lot of fun for a good 4 player match. Keep up the good work!

Maps 01, 02, 06, 07, 10, 12, & 13 were really good. I would like to have seen this wad have more maps with tan bricks (as seen in MAP02 & MAP10). Overall, this reminds me of exec.wad

Considering that map11, map12 and map13 are the three best maps of the pack, I disagree with the guy above. Good wad

Starts out with some maps that are decent enough for a couple of people but halfway in quality takes a dive. Noticable improvement over other releases from the same authors though. -Marcaek

^I don't know what the fuck this mook is talking about. The majority of these maps are suitable and balanced for 4-8 players.

Jeez, take the time to make actual balanced maps instead of jumbled "King of Items" maps. Good I guess for clusterF**ks like FNF or ZDS but really bad for anything else.

Great WAD, solidly nails that fantasy castle crawling feeling, not too rough on the player nor overly stingy/generous on supplies, encourages good use of items, plenty of navigation and switch puzzles as is apt for Heretic, but also lets loose with a little slaughter.   Some areas could use slightly brighter lighting, and sometimes the next switch or door isn't signalled too well, but overall a fun and feisty fantasy fight fest.

These levels are short, sweet, and pack a lot of punch. Complete with a humorous end-text-screen containing a healthy dose of silly shock-humor, this is a masterful triumph of Heretic map-making, and most certainly a must-play wad.

A really frantic and fun DM map with pretty neat stuff like invisible pillar in the middle of the arena, doesn't have anything to do with the title but the level can become a BFG spamming fest soon, especially with bots. Less fun in SP but the arch-ville+bunch of nazi combo is a nice feat.

Only six enemies (played on UV) and no working exit. Other than that, it is a pretty detailed map for 1995. I enjoyed the general design and the poisonous vats of acid. Very cool, but not practical for good gameplay.   EDIT: Just discovered this is a ideally a DM wad… haha, for that purpose, it seems good. My original rating was 2/5, will change it now.

Lots of traps and monster closets. Some switches are activated by shooting but there's nothing to really tell you about this because they look the same as other switches.   Texturing is good and enemy placement proved rather difficult at times. There aren't may health pickups on UV so it was a fight to get through.
