  8. idk now that im trying to get back into mapping im remmebering some of the projects i submitted maps for, even if they were speedmaps or dow right bad it still feels good just remembering that

  10. I have a problem with mapping, I get bursts, ideas and I guess I start executing them, then go like, what now

      Take a few days or more off and wait for an idea to come to you. Most of the maps I've been happiest with have been made quickly in terms of hours spent mapping, but have had at least one unnecessary break (not spent mapping) where I waited for ideas to come to me. Or where I sort of shelved the project and  got an idea that reanimated it. Beats forcing it. 

       

      I've come to feel that long periods of creative incubation are underrated. A lot of people think they have given up on a project if they haven't made something for a few weeks, but sometimes that's really helpful. Also this is why I've shifted to working on multiple maps at once rather than just one. 

       

      Another "trick" though is that the next idea does not have to be directly connected to the existing map. Like you can just think of some area the player will eventually get to. This is useful because it creates a lot more options.

    What stresses you out about being a mapper?

    Planning, I'm probaably the only mf here that struggles with this the most, however, I got a big problem with planning and let myself go. So uhh, I scrapped a map right at the start because I didn't know how to place my ideas in the map, so it looked horrendous. ALSO Outside areas, I never get them right but for some reason I always go like "haha big outside area let's do this shit" then never understand why they don't work
