deathz0r Posted October 30, 2002 DEMOn said:as for the wads he chose, well the dm wads are top notch... but the single-player wads are sub par (besides Alm's and AV; and I haven't played Archvile46's). but that is just my opinion. i've never played any of Erik's SP maps. only his Capture the Skull maps (teamplay that works within doom2.exe's limitations) and eadm4. speaking of which, eadm4 is another one to put in my list of maps that i like.Jello said:My only problem this week was that the reviews were hurried, which will hopefully be fixed in future releases...of course it will be fixed. 0 Share this post Link to post
Torn Posted October 30, 2002 Epyo said:BTW Torn I just played your map and I liked it. (I play through the /newstuff chronicles backwords...) Btw, do you know that this map is my first one over 5sectors... :D But thanks for comment, I like to know that others like my map... :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Torn Posted October 30, 2002 DEMOn said:Torn: you are taking my comments out of context... I bet your map is similar to Alex Parsons' work... some detail and attention to texturing and monster placement, but is only for one type of player. However, I have not even seen it, I am just assuming (that is, I don't think your map is the 1337-type at all). Well, I know it maybe are a little bit hard sometimes (maybe too many monsters). Well, my maps or others map can never be so good as maps in av and or other megawad, because the mappers have used alot of time on one map, not just a week like me... :) btw, who is alex parsons?- 0 Share this post Link to post

magikal Posted October 31, 2002 Nice one Torn, I really liked that. It was over all too quick but very enjoyable! (That's an odd set of keys btw.) Too many monsters in Abandoned Mines and Blind AlleyP, wtf? 0 Share this post Link to post

I don't know, heh. :) And I know it is a quick one, like map26. And now I serious need to start building my ccmap. :) 0 Share this post Link to post
The Ultimate DooMer Posted October 31, 2002 deathz0r said:in no particular order... 1337.wad, dwango6.wad, dogtag3.wad, Alien Vendetta, vex-doom.wad, supar1337.wad, tlsdm.wad, sopwith.wad, NESDoom, UDM series (excluding the maps i made), satarena.wad, Scientist, mockery 2, some of the wolfendoom wads, mountkng.wad, moo1m.wad, dwangot1.wad, knortdm.wad, judas22.wad, finalfrg.wad, doommall.wad, Doom: The Arcade Game, d2tourn.wad (the dehacked patch), Erik Alm's Capture the Skull wads, Skulltag, Toke's CTS wads, Abandoned Mines II, nuts.wad, Archvile46's Doom 1 SP wad, dc-xtra.wad (it's so horrible that it really cracks me up). Well, at least none of my wads are in there. (which I'm mildly surprised at, as there are some pretty good wads in there - notably Scientist, Alien Vendetta and dome1m3 by Archvile 46 - that one's a bit big, but very detailed and realistic) On a more on-topic note, I quite enjoyed both SP wads this week. Blind Alley was enjoyable (that wooden outdoor bit was quite tough!) and Abandoned Mines was authentic, rock hard and so tight on ammo that I had to berserk some Hell Knights/Barons to get 100% kills! (it's been a while since I did that...) 0 Share this post Link to post

But still, he hasn't listed any of my wads on his list of hated wads (which is certainly a good sign), and I haven't actually heard his opinion on any of my wads yet. 0 Share this post Link to post

Either way, there are some pretty odd choices in there. If my credentials as a wad reviewer were being questioned, I don't think I'd list 1337 and supar1337 among my preferred wads (even if I did get some enjoyment out of them). 0 Share this post Link to post

Opulent Posted November 1, 2002 Torn: http://www.doomworld.com/sda/op_846.zip is what I think of your map. :) good secrets. no plasma?... not even cells? pretty cool though... if you had to name one map that it is similar to, I think you'd name Map26. good job. I think it deserves more praise than it has received. must download, IMO. I'm off to idunno.wad... mmm, Cyb-map good... 0 Share this post Link to post

(there was a DooM 1 map called Io Anomaly that also had a high monster count, and that made it more enjoyable) 0 Share this post Link to post

Cacodreams Posted November 2, 2002 Poor deathz0r for having to share the computer with other family members!!! myk said:The reviews hardly make a difference Yeah, I think that the aim of the review is just to give someone an idea about a map, to make the person decide if he is gonna dl it or not. At times when the reviewer said a map is good, I found it crappy. And the contrary. 0 Share this post Link to post
Opulent Posted November 2, 2002 hah. Deathzor: yeah, looks pretty dumb the way I edited my post. I meant to say that it was similar to Map26, so he did his job well... but I took that part out. %-) OMG, it is almost Sunday again. :-o :) 0 Share this post Link to post
TheShep Posted November 2, 2002 Missed like 6 Chronicles here in like the past 2-3 weeks. Looks like those have vanished in the goddamn abyss, eh? 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted November 2, 2002 Hmm? If you are saying you missed previous chronicles you can go to the Doomworld News Forums section. They're all there. 0 Share this post Link to post

You can check out Newstuff #100 - the best week for wads in a long time. You can probably access #98 and #99 as well, by going to the Doomworld News forum and displaying older threads. 0 Share this post Link to post
