Scythe2 Demos

For the past week I've been attempting a few more demos. At the moment, there are only two I'm satisfied with (damn perfectionism!), so I'll submit those now.

First is a MAP32 UV Speed in 0:28. I dunno, maybe it's a bit slow, but it's a huge improvement over the :34 I originally had. Not certain if killing the zombies is needed, but when I left them alive, they'd always bring my health down too low before I could kill them for the archie jump to work. Luckily, they died pretty quickly, and I only took one hit, so it turned out okay.

Second is a MAP23 UV Pacifist in, ironically, also 0:28. I'm pretty sure this is the "extremely major [shortcut]" Erik mentioned in the Scythe 2 thread in the Wads & Mods forum. It takes me a while to pull off the glide, and the end is pretty shaky, so this time can definitely be improved, although I had no luck with the glide again afterwards.

Sending both demos to Opulent now.

Nice, I had the map23 glide but the demo was just too crappy to submit, I'm glad someone else beat it =)

Sounds good... I did map23 glide once too ... but died immediately afterwards :)
I accidenataly deleted my 21 pacifist in 0:44 so at least I sent to Opulent map 09 pacifist in 0:24

Grazza was correct when he suggested that the desyncing demos might playback with the prboom-monsterhazardhack version.

I tried Rich's ks202026.zip with Prboom2.2.4 and it desyncs as expected, but plays back fine with the prboom-monsterhazardhack version (suprisingly to me).
so, Gusta, you may wish to test your two Scythe Map20 demos with this exe.

edit: I must be more tired than I think... been working on something all day (wink wink).

2 demos today.

Map15 NM-Speed+Pacifist in 0:28. 20 mins effort first exit here :). Could be improved a couple of seconds.

The other is a map12 UV-Speed in 0:56. I had a 0:57 recorded a few days ago, but it looked ugly right at the end. This demo isn't too bad, but I got caught on some monsters at a couple points.

Sending both to Ops now.

Eh, sorry, wrong, 3:26, it's even not so bad as a first maxrun for the map, Opulent just should have the demo in mailbox. I sent him my old map20 runs too.
Schneelocke: couple of mistakes in table, line 12 (1:04 pacifist missing and 0:16 run is 0:56)

I also had a few sessions with this map, but -fast only (of course ;)

Schneelocke: you can delete my tyson entry on Map06. This demo doesn't exist any more.

OK, thanks, changed - but I can't seem to find the 1:04 pacifist for map12 you're mentioning. o.o

I´ve uploaded some scythe2 demos recorded by me using zdoom 2.0.63a since 12/10/2005 here are the download links :

All demos are skill 3 - 100% kills. Right now is Lvls 01-24 and 31-32
Working on Lvl 25 now =)
Many of them could be easily improved by more experienced doomers.

Nice - and congrats on your first published demos, too. :) I added them to the table, and will watch them now...

BTW, I also took the liberty of mirroring the zipfile on my site (here) - Geocities and file uploading services like that aren't terribly reliable, in my experience. Hope you don't mind. :)

Map23 false max in 10:41

A monster stayed in the teleport at the very end by walking straight back and forth and not going over the line... whatever, don't have the patience to fix that at the moment.

I guess that's ok for SDA but not for a demopack :) skill 4 is a standard :)

Why is that so, anyway? Most of the later maps at least in Scythe 2 are harder on skill 3 than many other (random) maps on skill 4, I'd say.

I think people shouldn't be discouraged from recording on whatever skill level they're comfortable with, and every demo published is a good thing if it was a faithful attempt to make it as good (or, in some cases, as funny or weird) as possible. :) Not everyone's an Angus or a stx-Vile, anyway (I know I'm not!). :)

Skill 4 is one of the standard skills for Compet-N, but that's just to not be too overbearing. In a casual setting like this demo forum, any kind of demos are welcome, so playing any desired skill shouldn't be discouraged.

Anybody knows how to reach secret exit in map15 using maxroute? I just understand how to reach it using Erik's speed route but in max it's ever closed. It's my only problem to record a max for this map because that sector is a secret place.

Vile: good job on map23, seems that I shouldn't take over this map... I got to YK once but unluckily died. My time would be 14-15 mins so it's not a shame.

ale: I would welcome rather some UV (and prboom:) demos too. But that's just because skill 4 is standard as Vince said.
