Who would have thought such an innocent topic would lead to so much friction!

Fine Linguica. I never said anything about arbitrating anything nor about this not being a site you run, but that's my opinion. I simply believe you overreacted, and I'm no one to think persuasion doesn't sometimes sway you. Not to breach any rights or priviliges, or anything.

Then I ban them, because I run the website and I can ban people. Like anyone who gets on my nerves.

You cant just ban peeps for getting on your nevers without doing anything wrong.

Ok then. Imagine if you will, than you just came home from a long day's work, and you decide to browse the internet for a bit. However, you didn't know that your 16 year old son came home before you did and did a little surfing of his own. He had left in a hurry and turned the monitor off. You walk in, sit down, and hit the monitor switch, and what you see on the screen nearly makes you lose your lunch. Just then, your wife and five year old daughter walks in the room and gets an eyeful as well.

What would you be feeling right about now?

That was probably Linguica's situation (although my senario seems a little worse).

Sigh. There is no such thing as admin power abuse. Period. Especially not when it comes from the webmaster of the site.

In any event, Nanami, I didn't mean for you to post the picture directly, but instead URL us; sorry about that. :/ I missed the whole fiasco, I was asleep. Anyway, don't worry about it. I'd change your title if I could. :o

Well this is all rather unfortunate. I don't have images showing (maybe Nanami doesn't either?), so the potential embarrassment factor didn't occur to me at all. It also seems that Nanami did everything by the book: she didn't post something (or link to it in any way) that she thought might be a bit dodgy, and only did so when directly invited to by a supermod.

Oh well, I suspect this will all be forgotten in a day or two, and there is probably a moral in there somewhere. I for one will be far more careful when giving links to images - I have tended to regard them as no different from links to html pages, etc.

Incredible! If I posted a response like that I'd get all sorts of replies from everything ranging from newbies to Mods/Admins about how much I need to improve on my behaviour as a Mod.

Well, the whole links to images stigma is largely due to goatse. Y'know.

How unfortunate... Perhaps this would do better to be discussed when Ling calms down. I can understand why he would be mad considering the situation, but hopefully he come to see that it was largly a misunderstanding and will change back Nanami's title. Only time will tell, I suppose.

Err, wow. This all happend while I was in school? Geez, and I thought English class was emotional. :P

It depends on the site and situation. If an admin were hired by a web site and began to abuse power (as you say is impossible), then why would that admin get fired when the web owner found out? I've actually seen this happen before.

Don't get me wrong, if the owner of the site was being abusive, then you just don't go to that site. A classic example from last year was a trashy SNES site called cherryroms. I went there to check out the forums to find other SNES players, when I noticed the site owner was the most unbelievable troll you could possible imagine on his own forum! The sucker would intentionally pic fights with people just so he could ban them as soon as they defended themselves. He would call people "stupid fucking morons" when they weren't even talking to him and when they would respond with "Hey, what's your problem?", he would snap back with "Okay dipshit, you're banned!". After a few weeks of this, the only people who would post were sycophants, with the rest having left for other forums. I lurked the whole time so I never got into trouble, but morbid curiosity kept me around to see how much abuse those forum members would take.

If anyone still wants to see the picture PM me like I said in the first place, because I don't want to get in trouble. I was trying to avoid getting in trouble the first time, but oh well. ^_^;

Oh, and I'm terribly sorry Ling. I thought since Kat said to post it, she meant that I could just put the image up there. And since she's a mod I guess I figured it'd be okay. Won't happen again.

I had a hard time getting it under 1000 characters because I had a lot to say. It was originally 1600 or something.

That 1000 character limit is a real pain. I find I always write about 1200, and end up having to trim out clarifications, polite bits, etc.

You know, politeness does have major advantages - girls tend to like you better if you behave like a gentleman and people tend to appreciate your company better if you're polite to them. Not to mention that you give a good impression on people you've never met before if you are polite.

And Nanami: My humble suggestion to you (/me gives doomedout a nervous "was-that-good-enough?" look) is that you try and accept your title for now. Bugging ling about it likely won't help. Just try and not do any mistakes in the future and ling will probably understand that you're not so bad.

I didn't mention anything about my title when I messaged him. The point of the message was to apologize for having almost gotten him in trouble and to say I'd be a lot more careful in the future. I also was very grateful I got off easy and wasn't banned.

I don't care about the title that much.
