  1. PRISON OF TERROR

Well its taken me two weeks to finish making this wad. If you explore the entire wad and kill every enemy it will probably take you around 35 minutes. I put in plenty of ammo, medi kits, and armour for multiplayers. I also put in a few traps so be careful. I hope you enjoy playing it because I enjoyed making this wad and it will probably be my last one since Doom II will be out shortly.

There's not really much to describe about this level. It's really just a level like all others. The one thing you may notice is the over use of the same textures over and over. It may get annoying, I dunno. It doesn't really bother me any.

  6. The Wastelands

I have a few policies I follow when I make a map that you should know about before you play. - You do not need to get any of the secrets to finish any level, although what you have to do may not be obvious. I also have marked each secret in one way or another, but it may be very subtle. (That's why it's a secret!) I hate unmarked secrets in other wads, so I don't put them in mine. (exception - there are secrets in the early levels that wimps cannot access. ie. You have to be a man, stick it out and fight. Stray shots can work wonders!) - If you feel like cheating, go load up something that has, oh.. say 20 cyberdemons in it and go crazy. Get it out of your system, then play Wastelands. This is a serious WAD for serious players. There are some parts that may be hard to do or figure out, but they can be done. If you are really stuck, I have the spoilers at the bottom of the document. - To the best of my knowledge, there is no place where you can get stuck. There are places where if you fall in, the nukeage will kill you, but there should be no place where you are trapped and can't die. - From experience, save your game often. For the mostpart, the most difficult parts of levels are near

Like most wads you'll see, this is my first attempt at building a wad. I tried to keep it small but difficult without simply throwing monsters at the player (with one exception, but we'll get to that later). There are two puzzle rooms, a couple of rooms that I used to learn about how Doom does stuff, and my journeyman project: a diabolical courtroom. My advice to someone playing the game: there is a room where you can get irrevocably stuck, so save your game often.

  8. Excalibur 1.1

I confess! I'm not a *true* DOOMer. I like the game the most at the HMP (He Must Practice ?!) level. I want to have some time to take a closer look at the enviroment. Besides, I'm into X-rays, not UV :) Therefore I spend much time aligning textures and I hope I haven't missed a spot (If you find an error, please flame my beta-testers!). On the other hand, this could mean that I exaggerated UV a little...

Before you go out and hopefully play this WAD, I must tell you that there's a CyberDemon Surprise at the end (I know it's a cheap trick, flame me!), but you're given 3 options to bypass this CDS: a) Run like hell; b) Nuke him (a BFG might come in handy); and c) ... Nah! It's a secret.

  10. Ktulu Calls Zaphod (BIG mistake)

Bear with me... I know sometimes I don't care what the story is behind the level - I JUST WANT TO PLAY - but I think you'll be glad you read this first.

Zaphod Beeblebrox, our galactic hero and just an all-around great guy, was zipping around in his speedboat on an uncharted watery planet when one of his two heads realized the other knew where he was going. Unfortunately his two heads had previously had a profound disagreement and were not talking to each other. So the uninformed head just had to sit tight (although this gave Zaphod a neck ache) and wait. Soon enough an expansive wall of shimmering blues and reds could be seen closing in from all direc- tions. Despite the circumstances, the informed head remained calm (too calm - a bit trance-like in fact), while the oblivious one remained so. Eventually something could be seen ahead in the distance as the shimmering wall was almost upon him. Soon Zaphod's speedboat came to a splashing halt in front of a large dock. Suddenly his purpose was all too clear! Despite their differences, both heads thought as one (with twice the brain power)! Zaphod had been called to the Land of Ktulu!! There were bits and scraps in in the HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE about such a place - but many thought it was just a myth. But now Zaphod knew they had been mythinformed. Supposedly an unknown being (except it's name) named Ktulu had/has a hunger for humans (specific- ally battle-trained) and "calls" them from all over the far reaches of the galaxy to it's land. Apparently Ktulu appreciates a good fight before it overcomes them, but before they are worthy enough to be devoured by Ktulu, they must fight their way through it's minions and find Ktulu's lair! (Zaphod always thought it was just an excuse to soften up the victim). With Zaphod's newly acquired oneness of his two heads, he became acutely aware that his speedboat was sinking. The corrosive waters surrounding Ktulu (the land) work pretty fast, he thought. Luckily his previously only-informed head had gotten Zaphod to wear his neato-cool eLiTE battle armor which would protect him from most corrosive substances - not to mention also bringing the other battle supplies... Zaphod's heads agreed it was a BIG mistake for Ktulu to have called Zaphod Beeblebrox. Zaphod just hoped he could find enough ammunition from fallen predecessors to last through the gauntlet he knew was waiting for him...

  14. The Black Widow

This is mostly a 1-player level, but it`s also a nice DM and co-level. You start with a not so power- ful weapon and you have to fight your way through a few guys before you get even a shotgun. But don`t let this scare you. It`s not so far away... The level itself isn`t that big, but it`s way enough action all the way. Most of you experienced DOOM- player-guys will take it down after a few tries. I didn`t want it to be impossible getting to the exit, but those who haven`t played DOOM that much, will have quite fun, finding secret doors, heavy weapons and all that stuff. I`m not saying that the masters will find this level boring, so don`t turn around, you people!! I think the whole World of DOOM will find this level exciting. I`m thinking about making an episode, so if you like this level, send me a postcard to cheer me up. Finally, here`s my advice: ALWAYS LOOK BEHIND YOU! (And in front of you, because I`ve included some hot pictures of nude teenagers...)

  15. WET WORK

WET WORK: We've lost contact with a small science outpost located on the moon delta 9. UAC long range scan indicates an enemy presence, the hell spawn have redecorated and HQ doesn't like the color scheme. No one really likes you much, so we've decided to send you in alone, poorly armed, with no fire- support what so ever. If you survive we'll swing by and pick you up sooner or later, otherwise we'll be drinking beer and pissing on your grave. Good Luck!!!

  16. WAD.WAD V1.1 (Waste And Destroy)

An average sized wad centred around a large open courtyard. You start out behind some cover, watch out for seargents around you in a bunker to the southwest and a shooting gallery to the east. The level is split into two main areas, the door to the south of the courtyard leads to my bit of the level, and the corridor to the east leads to Simon's. There is a keycard kept in each area.

  17. Vampire 5 or Frodo 5

I named it VAMPIRE5 because...catchy name! Better than FRODO5, my handle. Anyways. This was made w/ DeathMatch in mind. About half the time making this was spent playing it to make sure everything looked nice. I wanted an artistic PWAD as well as a fun one. Most of the rooms were done on paper first. Much time has been spent thinking about how things will be placed and if they'll "work well" there. Story: trapped in Count Frodo's castle, you must escape the evil vampire's traps and make it out alive. His creatures will try and stop you from escaping. Can you find Count Frodo's secret teleport room? Can you master the Plus Sign?? Can you find the hidden weapon in the Infinity room? Discover all the great snipe spots!

My friends say that this level is too hard, but if wasn't difficult, it wouldn't be worthwile. It's not one those 'impossible' wads that I've tried. I spent a lot of time with detail too. I hate when rooms look like the textures were thrown together.

  25. WADODETH.WAD **Deathmatch**

DEATHMATCH! DEATHMATCH! DEATHMATCH! This will challenge even the most experienced Death Match players. Play revolves around a courtyard with a Pyramid of Death. (called this because if you want the rocket launcher, you must ascend to the top. Not easy when someone is shooting at you!) Also included are two 'prison cells' to which you shall be teleported if you cross the wrong portion of a tele- porter line. Once inside.. you are fair game to all.. In order to give the teleporters a fell of randomness, I split the line def into smaller segments so that crossing at one point might send you to the top of the pyramid.. but it might send you to the prision or to the trench at the base of the pyramid (which also has a teleporter line to the prision) **************************************************** ***I strongly urge you to play with Respawn..There are a few sergeants who can help you if both players wind up in jail..***

One of the more underrated doom mods out there. The levels have a lot of detail and great use of 3D sectors, used for railings and other things. Not a lot of mods that I know of has these attentions to detail back then other than KDiZD. I like how the first gun, not weapon, first gun in the mod is a quad barreled shotgun. This might be bias but I don't see any other mods or games give the player a quad barreled shotgun as a starter weapon.

The cutscenes and artwork used for them are REALLY well made. I like its story and the protagonist John Logan. His design looks like a cross between Daniel Garners from Painkiller and the Doom Marine from well, Doom 3.

Speaking of Painkiller, the mod uses tracks from Painkiller, which is a nice touch. Admittedly, there are things in Legacy of Suffering that I don't like, such as the Painkiller/Serious Sam arena wave sections. Not all of them are bad, but the later levels that uses them are the worst offenders. Often spawning mancubi, pain elementals, and revenants that just makes the fights more tedious.
      DISCLAIMER: SPOILERS AHEAD
      END OF SPOILERS:
In conclusion, Legacy of Suffering is a really well made mod and I really want other people to try it out. I would suggest to start on the easiest difficulty, do NOT get fooled by the normal difficulty Ultra Violence, it will kick your ass, and anything higher will probably break your soul. Other than that, I would highly recommend you to play this mod. It can be played on GZDoom, Zandronum, and Skulltag. That is the end of the review, have a nice day :)

Enigma is not exactly my cup of tea; the mandatory secrets are a bit annoying and the confusing layout of the maps doesn't help much. Still, the maps are fun to navigate and they feature some great architecture that lead to unique gameplay encounters. Overall, it's decently fun.

Nothing better than baiting the Bazooka Man into blowing himself up! Obituary doesn't pull any punches; you'll be facing tons of hitscanners and plenty of nasty traps, but you'll get to appreciate the fine work the Möller brothers did with this WAD. The maps are intricately designed with a judicious use of textures, some of them custom-made. The new array of weapons is great, especially the flamethrower, which can shred down a cyberdemon in seconds! The low point might be the plain secret map and icon of sin fight, but overall, Obituary strikes home more often than not.

In recent years, general opinon of MM seemed to move towars negative, moreso than any other classic 90's megawad. It's nice to see it recieve some positive attention and even though I'm not exactly a reviewer, I figured I'd join in. Aside from couple rough maps, it remains a great experience today. Generally good and varied vanilla visuals with beautiful highlights like Maps 05, 13, 14 and 21, certainly helped by some great, really cool custom textures, which fit in with the classic ones incredibly well, much better than any other 90's custom stuff (aside from Eternal Doom, but that's a completely different aesthetic). The maps are quite varied without the whole thing becoming incosistent/all over the place and the variety really helps blaze through the whole thing. In comparison, while I prefer MM2 in terms of individual levels, it has a ton of long or similar maps back to back, which can get tiring and take much longer to geth through. Another aspect of MM I really like is some really, unique and fun design choices, or even whole map designs that you don't see much these days for some reason. The Innocent Crew's maps especially are very creative in fun and refreshing ways. Incredibly underrated mappers. Literally everyone knows this already, but Mark Klem's music is amazing.

This could've been one of the first 32 level megawads that I played after completing the base games. I've played many more since then, and I can honestly say, for a megawad dating back to 1996, it still holds up brilliantly against a lot of modern wads.    Also @DoomGuy999, about that criticism about maps being coop exclusive... "Most levels were made for co-op play, all levels are playable alone as well."   Not exactly sure what you were expecting after having an explicit statement right there.
